Golf Club At Terra Lago - South Course
About
Formerly known as Landmark Golf Club, the Golf Club at Terra Lago was the host of the PGA Tour Skins Game from 1999 to 2002. The club's impressive guest list includes Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods. There are two 18-hole courses available called the North and the South. At 7,044 yards, Terra Lago's South Course is just barely shorter than the 7,060-yard North Course but they are equally challenging. The South is known for having one of the club's most unique and memorable holes, the par-4 second. This narrow hole runs alongside a wide canal that makes anything hit to the right impossible to play. The unique part of the hole comes as you approach the green. To cross the creek, rather than having a traditional wood bridge, the course designer crafted a bridge from an old rail car, which explains its nickname as the "Boxcar" hole.

Service and golf
Service in the bar area was excellent. Pro shop person so so. Not too friendly, other golfers on our butt all the way. Golf bag service very good. Played the south course. Would have preferred the nirth if it was open .
Decent price but very disappointing experience
This was a really disappointing experience. The course is in mediocre shape, the greens are absolutely terrible and it feels like the owners have given up and are not maintaining or improving anything. In addition to that, when we checked in at the pro-shop, they told us that if we aren’t finished by 5:00pm, we should just quit and return to the clubhouse. At first we thought they were joking - it’s still broad daylight at 5pm, why would we have to stop?!?! Apparently the staff leaves early?! Then they told us that the driving range is CLOSED in the middle of the day - from 11:00am-1:00pm - the starter said it’s embarrassing and he doesn’t know how to explain this strange management decision to guests. When we asked if we could just hit some putts then, the answer was the same - “no, sorry, the practice green is closed too.” We played with a couple visiting from out of town and they said that they have played many courses during their vacation and this was by far the worst experience. I really hope the owners decide to address these issues because if they don’t, there’s no way this business will survive.
Good condition
Good condition considering it was over seeded not very long ago. Always a pleasure playing a desert course.
Late notice
As we were approaching the first tee we were informed that we had to return the cart by 5PM. With a 1:40 tee time it was obvious that we couldn’t be done with 18 holes by 5PM. The first tee had 3 groups waiting to tee off so our 1:40 time was pushed back. The pace of play was very slow. Teed off the 14th hole just before 5 and had to end play at end of that hole even though sunset was 6 PM. Wish we knew prior to booking the 5 PM restriction. Staff was friendly but pace was slow. They said we should have no problem playing all 18 but very questionable even if they didn’t require all carts back by 5PM.
Advance notice of their policies would have been ideal, but then we wouldn’t have booked that course.
sand
no sand in bunkers...we finally made a rule you got a free drop out of ALL bunkers...
Slow play
It was brutally slow because carts were cart path only. Long walks for older golfers was brutal. Two groups in front stopped after 12th hole or we would have or round wold have been 5 - 6 hours.
Good but Could be Better
Course was fine and good value for money. Friendliness of staff was mixed. Cart guys were great, Marshall and desk staff not so much.
Cartpath
Couldnt go near the fairway. Long walks with bad knees. Should have been warned before hand about cart path golf. Wouldnt have played
Cart waste of time.
We were unable to drive on the course as we had to stay on the cart path. We should’ve been given the option to walk the course with a pull cart. Over twice the walking due to having to walk back to the cart to advance towards the green. Stupid me. Others drove passed us to quit early, tried of the double walking. Never again will I double walk a course.
Cartpath only
I was not told by the staff, nor even the starter that the course was cartpath only. I paid full price, instead of a discounted price, which is typical for the inconvenience of having to walk to your ball each time. But a customer should have the option of playing the course or not knowing that is part path only before they even pay. I paid and was greeted by the Shop staff and as I said, the starter didn’t even say anything. Unacceptable.
DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE
The worst golf experience I have ever had. The golfers(?) behind us hit into and over us three times, once hitting me in the foot. Calling for assistance from a Marshall did us no good, and received no help.
It was over 90 degrees, we were told that there was a beverage cart, and after 9 we asked that the cart come to us, as you are not permitted in your cart to return to the clubhouse. We finally saw the cargo, and the Marshall on 18, it was way too late, and a terrible experience.
Good Back-up Option
Played the South Course during fall over-seeding season when most Desert courses are closed. The course beautifully follows the undulation of the surrounding hills and rock formations. While the fairways were in good shape, most of the greens were spotty and inconsistent at best. Not sure the greens had been overseeded from the summer heat. The two courses at Terra Lago provide a good alternative for October/early Nov golf. Despite the cart-path only rule, we played the 18 holes in 3.5 hours. Not bad for all the walking done along the way!
Had I known it was cart path only, I would have played elsewhere.
Due to overseeding across the Coachella Valley, there are limited playing options. I hadn’t played TL on a few years, so I thought I’d give it another try. I was quickly reminded how unattractive the TL courses are. Very few trees and generally an unkempt appearance all around. Since the south course was just overseeded, the whole course was cart path only. I understand why, but I would have played elsewhere, had I known it was cart path only when I booked.
