Golf Club At Terra Lago - South Course
About
Formerly known as Landmark Golf Club, the Golf Club at Terra Lago was the host of the PGA Tour Skins Game from 1999 to 2002. The club's impressive guest list includes Greg Norman, Phil Mickelson, and Tiger Woods. There are two 18-hole courses available called the North and the South. At 7,044 yards, Terra Lago's South Course is just barely shorter than the 7,060-yard North Course but they are equally challenging. The South is known for having one of the club's most unique and memorable holes, the par-4 second. This narrow hole runs alongside a wide canal that makes anything hit to the right impossible to play. The unique part of the hole comes as you approach the green. To cross the creek, rather than having a traditional wood bridge, the course designer crafted a bridge from an old rail car, which explains its nickname as the "Boxcar" hole.

South course
Enjoy the course but not the slow play- need to Marshall course better.
GC at Terra Lago, Indio, CA
We have played these two courses several times over the years and have never been disappointed, This year’s experience was different. Starting with club drop off. Our clubs were left behind at the drop off area while two other foursomes” clubs were brought down and loaded onto carts. While this was happening we were checking in with the nasty fella at the pro shop. I have never been greeted by such an ill mannered attendant at any course, ever. Not a pleasant way to start our day of golf. Besides his bad attitude, he gladly took our $20 for practice balls. When we got got to the practice range there were loads of golf balls available to everyone else but us. He could have had the courtesy of letting us know that there were plenty of balls available instead of taking our money that way. When we got downstairs to get into our carts is when we discovered that our clubs were still at the drop-off. So we all went back up to get our own clubs, carried them back down the path and loaded our own carts. Thankfully once we got started off the first tee we had a great day. We will not be returning to Terra Lago ever again. They don’t deserve our money. BTW - I have never written a negative review in my 40ish years of playing golf….until now.
Almost forgot to mention that (even though we won’t be returning) they should perhaps pay someone to clean up the place. There was garbage all over the course and not because of the winds. Garbage cans are truly rare. It used to be such a great place to play. So sad.
Friendly Staff
The course layout and conditions were pretty good on this south course. The big concern we had was the pace of play was very slow. The front nine actually moved very well then at the tenth tee things took a turn and the pay of play went downhill. We waited on every tee box and second shots to the greens. I was concerned when we booked as slow play and no marshals were a concern .
Bar Service
Staff was very friendly and service oriented. Bat closed at 5pm. On course graphics are poor. No beverage service on course, no free range balls,
Bit Disappointed
Only fairways and greens are over seeded. The rough was from OK to dirt patch. Most bunkers/non sand traps were an embarrassment to the Club. Barren, muddy and hard packed. The course layout is a challenge to follow….up, down and all around.
Reports indicate that the North course is in better shape.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Overpriced for the course conditions.
Enjoyed the round.
Fairways in good shape and the greens were top notch.
Odd bunker design. Thin Flat sand on the bottom and grassy slumping sides inside the trap. I thought at first it was a maintenance issue but all the traps were the same, true traps you want to avoid! A little tricky getting between holes, pay attention.
I will play again.
So so course.
Good layout, faiirways average, bunkers need sand, greens average to above average. Good pace of play.
Someone must of burnt his toast.
Albeit our first time to the course the sheer lack of common curiosity at check set the tone. Had we been aware that no on course facilities or at the turn ( South Course ) also no facilities we could have prepared prior to heading out.
Almost a good time
- Staff are friendly
- Carts have no GPS & no club/ball washer
- Pins have no range finder reflectors
- Sand traps are like concrete and full of rocks
- No on-course amenities
- No cart girl
Course feels very young & not quite there yet.
Would not play south course again.
Played this course as part of a marathon 9-rounds in 5 days trip I took to the Coachella Valley. Played both the North and South course on the same day.
The South course is an enjoyable round with plenty of interesting holes. However it does lack some of the aesthetic beauty, overall challenge, and quality of conditions that its North counterpart has.
CONDITIONS: You do not get that same quality of condition on the South that you do on the North. Bunkers are an afterthought, at best, here. Dusty sand, and in areas just rock hard and unplayable. There were sparse areas of the fairway. The greens rolled more consistent than the North the day I played. I found it interesting how 2 courses on the same property could be conditioned so differently.
VALUE: Given the conditions, I feel like the deal times you can find online are the closest thing to fair value for this course.
LAYOUT: Much like the North, the South sits in the desert with minimal housing surrounding the course. There are spots where you get vistas sort of like you do on the North (#4 and #5), but they are nowhere as dramatic. The South does play around the canal that runs through the course (#2, #6, #8, #9, some on the back). I found holes #13 thru #17 to be a fun stretch of holes that helped steady my scorecard for this round.
FRIENDLINESS: The staff were awesome. Helpful and accommodating everywhere I went.
PACE: Tee’d off around Noon, and the pace never picked up. Played the expected/anticipated 4.5 hour round.
DIFFICULTY: The South is not as difficult as the North, but I did lose more balls on the South (that canal got me!). The South is more forgiving than the North and allows you to score well without being in the perfect position.
