CA Oaks
Fun course with good lay out and nice carts, however they need to do maintenance, current conditions are almost unplayable. Hit a good shot in fairway, and can't find ball, slim chance finding your ball in ruff. Greens OK Also, purchased Hot Deal with cart included, and they tried to charge $20 extra per person for cart. Only gave keys to cart once we showed receipt from TeeOff that showed cart included. This course has alot of potential if they just fix tee boxes and mow the grass!
Worse course around
I’ve played bad courses but this course takes the cake. Tee boxes were dirt, loss balls in the fair way due to the amount of weeds, and sand was had with no racks or broken racks. Would never play here again or recommend it to anyone
Waste
I haven’t golfed here in a year, but thought I’d give it another shot. Waste of a course. If your ball goes 1 foot of the fairway it is a lost ball. They need to put the money back into the course. Hire a real course superintendent who knows what a mower is used for. Course could be nice if the owner would put money back into the product. Waste of your time.
Terrible conditions
I’m not an avid golfer but I golf enough to know that the rough shouldn’t be higher that my ankles. although I hit consistently in the low to mid 90’s I may lose 3-4 golf balls a game, this time I lost roughy 12. I’d hit a good enough shot and know exactly where it was but unless I stepped directly on the ball I’d lose the ball completely. I’ll never go back to this course and even though the price wasn’t bad it still wasn’t worth it. I purchased a hot deal with the cart included but they tried to make me purchase the cart. If I didn’t have a random guy there to question it I may have (stupidly) paid for the cart. Thankfully I questioned it also and showed the purchase on the app.
Pretty Poor Conditions
In really bad shape. The course hasn’t been taken care of at all and for the price pretty ridiculous.
TERRIBLE
Absolutely terrible that’s all I gotta say … but to get into further detail … they might’ve fired all of their groundskeepers because the condition of this course is the worst I’ve played in. I’ve played 100 of course in my day and this might’ve b my far the worst. It’s one thing the course is narrow but the fact you can barely find your ball ifnyou hit in the fair way makes it not worth it. The lay out is terrible and the conditions are even worst. The pictures on this app of this course are a lie and very deceiving. I would never recommend
Worst course ever
This course isn’t even worth 10 dollars let alone the 50$ we paid to play this crap. I recommend nobody ever comes and plays here
Maintenance
The course had a good layout. If there was more maintenance it would get another star. No driving range, just a warm up net area and putting green. Bring water, no water stations either.
Okay…
So it’s not the most groomed course…you can lose your ball in some fairways, there’s no real food, a few tee boxes are just dirt and there can be trash all over. The most annoying thing is how narrow this freaking course is and anything left or right is in huge brush or a smelly “creak”.
But that’s the bad. The good is the staff is ridiculously nice, the green fees are not bad at all, it’s quiet and pace of play is extremely fast. A few holes are really thought out and fun/challenging. The narrow fairways, though they make me mad, force you to play a short course more strategic than just bomb it to the green. I just wish missing the freeway doesn’t mean a lost ball each time. I’ll for sure keep coming back for a quick 9 or a last minute Sunday morning urge to play. It’s golf…
Not bad
The restaurant isn’t open yet. Plan to bring your own food. No beverage carts. Tee boxes need a lot of attention. Fairways and greens were in decent condition thanks to the recent rain. Seems this GC is under staffed.
Weedy
The course sits within a canyon and the layout is simply amazing. My problem was there are a few tees that do not let you see any of the fairway, so look at the picture and pray. The par 5 on the front 9 is short ... but there are some trees that will kill a driver. You've got to play it with irons and hit a stinger. I still parred it.
The rough hasn't been maintained, and there are some extremely leafy weeds that will make it simply impossible to find the ball. A little maintenance in these first and second cut areas would definitely make the course a lot better.
Don't get me wrong. The design is simply amazing. I wish they would take better care of it. The cost though, for a Sunday, was almost fair (super cheap).
rain related issues
I guess it was in such poor condition because of all the rain we have had. Greens were slow, but consistently slow , so not a big deal. Our problem was the clover, so much of it and so thick that we lost balls the were on the fairway. Understand they have had a rough time mowing, but that won't account for the bare spots on the tee's and fairway.
Not sure if I will try again, it was a nasty course yesterday.
30 years.... just awaiting that extra special touch
A great Par3/4 course over the years, but just in need of a better shave on the greens. Its a bit conservative on the side of caution to prevent burned out greens and sun spots... got to find that right balance with a lower stipp.
Great casual layout and always fun. Super Nice guy running the shop.
Course Closec
I booked a round through Golf Now and was charged. When I arrived to the course it was closed. I will inquire with the pro shop at a later about this
Winter conditions not worth it
A short course with many narrow fairways would usually be a nice day of golf, not so with California Oaks. It is obviously winter conditions but there is very little grass on the fairways and the rough consists primarily of weeds. Many sand traps were full of water. Maybe we didn't see it at its best but there's no reason to play it during the winter.
I've played here several times a year for 25 years
All in all, not a bad experience. We enjoy the pace, and how casual things feel. Only feedback is to be willing to cut the greens tighter, as they play extremely slow (more than likely as a means of keeping them lush and drought-free)?
