Great day in the sun. Photo submitted by DinoSheardown on 04/27/2020
Hmmm
I have played this course before but something was different this time. Not quite the wow factor and not as tough as I remember.
Extremely slow, poorly managed
There was a tournament this day that held everyone up. Marshals did not do anything to speed them up. It tooke 3.5 hours to get through 9 holes. After the front 9 there was <2 hours of daylight and the slow tournament ahead of us was on pace to finish at 7. The guy at the front desk was nice enough to give everyone in our foursome a 2-for-1 coupon for future use. That's the only reason staff gets 2 stars.
The marshall came by after we had teed off on the 7th hole (after sitting on the tee box for 40 minutes) and said he could take us back to holes 2-6 and we could play those on repeat. Seeing as how we paid to play 18 distinct holes, our foursome declined and the marshal talked down to us as if he were trying to do us some huge favor.
The course was dried out pretty good - lots of dead, yellow grass and the tee boxes were pretty hard - couldn't get a tee in some of them. I also had to wait about 15 minutes for a cart after I checked in, leaving me no time to warm up at the practice facility (which is not walkable from the pro shop).
Fun Track, Great Pace
First time playing Coyote and had a good time out there. The course was a bit dry and the greens had recently been aerated but generally no complaints. Plays short from the blues and the mid-handicapper or better would probably enjoy playing from the tips (I will the next time I play). Teed off at 7:20am and wrapped at 11:30am. We probably could have finished faster if we didn't leave so many strokes out there.
Breakfast burrito was excellent; hot and ready when you order.
Friday Freebies
Nice course, we will definitely play there again. Friday Freebies included for $70... Free Range balls, Free Breakfast, Free Lunch and 2 Free Drinks ( Anything). Great scenic views, overall nice course.
Highest quality public courses you'll play
I always love to play this course. It's not a long course but it demands everything you have in accuracy. To achieve a successful score on this course requires the ability to play target golf and the utilization of good course management. To help you with course management, Coyote Hills has a superb GPS system in their golf carts. I highly recommend stopping by the grill upstairs after your round of golf. It has a great view overlooking the 18th green and quality food. The perfect way to wrap up a great day at the course.
back nine
Title fairways great greens speed of play great.service very helpful and very nice they want you to have a good time with out a hassle and it works well here.
Coyote Hills
Played the back nine it was reasonable at $40.00 but they should include breakfast in this like some other clubs. Course was in good shape greens where pretty true and quick which was a surprise since they were still pretty damp. They would have been really fast later in the day. Course has lot of elevation changes and some really pretty holes. Tight driving course and doesn't play very long from the blues but it's still a challenge. Really enjoyed it just wish the 18 hole rate wasn't so high.
Slow Play due to tournament.
5 1/2 hours to play sixteen holes. Tournament delayed play way beyond what is reasonable.
Fabulous
Would play this course whenever we are in SC. First time we ever played a Payne Stewart design, and loved the challenge
Ok
First off I'm a hacker not a golfer. I booked it via golf now what I did not see at the time of booking was any indication that the course had just been plugged so for 80 bucks I expect that to be conveyed. The greens were good but the guy came and flooded them in the middle of our round. At best the fairways were hurting enough said on that. Has the potential to be a great course with clear active oversight.
fun course
fun course if you play the Tees that correspond to your handicap
Good round
Played yesterday. We got the first tee time out. Finished the round in less than 3.5 hours. Green was rolling nice, and fairway was good. Good round all around, and oh breaking 80 for the first time was a great bonus.
Great time at Coyote Hills
I've played Coyote Hills 10+ times and have never been disappointed. The course was in great shape and the $80 to me was worth it. Courses comparable to Coyote would be $100 - $125. The course it a bit difficult but it is manageable if you play on the conservative side. I will definitely be back. One of my favorite when I'm in OC.
behind a large group tournament
The course and staff are good. I am just unlucky that behind a group of company tournament. It's extremely slow. There are two group waiting for tee off starting at hole 5. I saw several players don't want to wait and just quit. My round started @ 1:45pm and finished arond 7:40pm. Not sure if there is anying the club staff to do to avoid this kind of situation in the future.
Great Value
This was my first time playing this course after recently moving to SoCal from South Florida. It was in great shape overall and the greens rolled really well. Pace of play could have been better as we were behind a mixed foursome that played slow, but there was no ranger to speed things up.
Love this course!!
I really enjoyed this course. It has several fantastic views of the city. The greens where in terrific shape. It has a great course layout. The employee's were courteous and friendly. They made us feel so welcomed. I just loved it.
Short and crowded but fun
It was surprising crowded and the length of the course is short but you might not know it. A lot of fun and a beautiful course.
Too much $, Too much time, Not enough value
Price - a little too expensive for the quality of the course.
Time - at 5 1/2 hours took too long even for a Sat afternoon.
Value - From a distance, the course looks beautiful and the elevation changes are fantastic. Up close, the greens are slow and bumpy. There are dead and bare spots everywhere and the design (because of the terrain) has WAY too many 325 yard par 4's and with only two par 5's on the back - felt like I got short-changed for this much money.
In short - good value at $60 or so, but not at $80. Expect excellent staff, breathtaking views and challenging terrain, but short gimmicky golf.
Fun but short...
It was a great looking course with well manicured greens. The oil derricks were very cool scattered throughout the course. I got a hot deal price so it was perfect for that but I probably wouldn't pay full green fees to play here.
