Green To Tee Photo submitted by gregjm1977 on 03/17/2013
Nickel and Dime Tactics
Classic nickel and dime tactics. Charges you fees if you use a credit card and wants you to book online to pay that booking fee. Refused to book a Saturday morning tee time while on the phone. Sucks really because I really like this course and I hear it is finally getting back into good condition.
Great course
Very helpful staff great course especially for the price.
Great layout, but the course is in decline
I have played Island Pointe, which used to be River Islands, since it was first constructed. Have not been the for the last 10 years. Course conditions are clearly deteriorating. The greens and fairways are still good. But the traps are basically the remnants of mud puddles with no sand to speak of. Cart paths are disintegrating. They have allowed spoil areas to grow up where there used to grass. In some case the seed fonds of crabgrass rise up in front of tee boxes. I wish the best for them. Its a great layout that only needs a bit of mowing and maintenance.
Thank you for your feedback.
We are so glad you visited the golf course, especially after 10 years! You are correct, we are naturalizing the golf course and returning it to a true links style golf course. As we are waiting for some new seed to germinate, we have to temporarily deal with the issue of some grass that we DON'T want... In addition, we have made the decision to remove cart paths in certain areas, rather than replace them. We prefer to keep our trees than the cart paths... In areas where the path is removed, there will be a natural path. As for the bunkers, we do have a few that still collect water after heavy rains like we experienced in the past week. Please know our team is already working on the drainage... In fact, we pass along all reviews. We communicate course updates / projects / improvements (like these) several times a year via email to our customers. If you would like to receive these updates, simply sign-up via our website.
Thanks again for the feedback. Hope to see you again soon!
Beautiful course
Challenging layout. Some really beautiful holes. However, lots of hill climbing to and from the greens. Not a good course on a hot day if you have heart problems. Otherwise, very enjoyable.
Welcome back
Course went through a rough stretch the last couple of years. You can see the new owners are making this a top destination once again. Beautiful layout. So glad it’s back. Drive 3 hours just to play it. Thanks team for making this a great course again.
Best coarse in East Tennessee
Played over 50 courses all over Tennessee and I think this has to one of my favorites. Fairways are beautiful and greens are crisp (challenging) and well maintained!!
Challenging and Fun Course
It's a great course. Lots of challenging holes. The front 9 has 3 par 3s, 3 par 4s, and 3 par 5s. Back 9 is standard. The course plays along the French Broad river and there are lots of great views with a couple of holes playing across the water. A food truck is stationed between holes 9 & 10 for a quick fill up.
Terrible Management
Your response to my review regarding your management failed to address my specific issue that you booked WAY TOO MANY foursomes without appropriate time breaks when we played. Yes we booked a two-some and you paired us up. You seem to imply we had a problem with being paired up and that is not true. Many courses do that on a Fridays and Saturdays. I've been playing golf for 40 years so I think I know a little about this. What professionally managed courses DON'T do is overbook the tee times so that it takes almost 3 hours to play nine holes. You failed in your listing of facts to address this fact. Or the fact that every hole had 12 players playing it. And it shouldn't matter who we booked our round with because YOU are responsible for the pace of play on YOUR course. You overbooked tee times and you don't employ a marshal to drive the course and keep play moving when there's a problem. Readers deserve to know what they are getting from you if they happen to book on a Friday. And they deserve to know if they have a problem that the manager is too busy hiding in her office to personally address their issues (until they post it on this site apperently).
Good Little Course
They have done a great job of getting the course back in shape. Friendly staff
Terrible Management
I've played this course many times over the years due to the beauty of the natural surroundings. The course has changed ownership numerous times including bankruptcy and the course shows it. Fairways and greens are marginal at best and the "sand" traps are basically dirt and impossible to play. We played recently on a Friday and their policy is 4-somes only which is ok BUT they didn't adjust the tee-off schedule approriately for this policy and it took 2 hrs and 50 minutes to play 9 holes. Every hole had 12 people on it. I At the turn I went into the clubhouse to speak to the manager and she refused to come out of her office to speak with us. Her message to us was that 2hrs 50 minutes was an acceptable pace of play. Its sad that a course with such natural beauty surrounding it can not find a management company to operate it professionally and properly maintain it.
This is a "REPOST" of your prior review. That said, let's go ahead and look at the FACTS:
1) You purchased a GolfNow HotDeal (special rate), non-refundable tee time directly from GN, NOT the Golf Course, and were paired with another twosome. The course has no control of those special rates, and receives no compensation. If you play as a twosome at other courses there is always a chance you will be paired.
2) Your tee ball was hit precisely at your tee time (there was no back up). Our starter log indicates your tee time, tee ball, cart number, etc.
3) The course is in great condition, and the bunker renovation completed this past January.. It's not always perfect, but our crew does a solid job!
4) Yourself and your son wanted to play alone and unfortunately we were not able to accommodate the request on a busy day. When groups decide to split it simply affects their pace and those around them. Our ranger explained this on the course. All groups on your day of play finished between 3 hours 47 minutes and 4 hours 32 minutes.
5) You spoke with Nick who walked through all of the items referenced within this response. In fact, you spoke with the appropriate person from the golf course. Nick was able to review, assess your situation and explained it to both you and your son.
6) The course owner bought this facility 12 years ago and remains the sole owner. It hasn't changed. Further, to our knowledge no prior owner has ever filed bankruptcy. There have only been 4 owners in 30 years.
It's unfortunate you didn't have the experience we prefer you have while choosing to play our facility. There are things we can accommodate and those we can't accommodate. WE won't comment on your specific matter any further. We don't always get it right, but we certainly try our best. Perhaps you will give us another try in the Fall, but remember to reserve a tee time through the course or its website.
Have a great day, and keep golfing!
Awesome course
People were so nice. The course was so scenic and unique that my wife and I were extremely impressed! Go play there if you can! You will not regret it!!
Thanks for your feedback. In an effort to keep you (our patrons) and our staff safe, we implementing prepaid tee times during peak playing times. In fact this will extend to other days soon too, especially as there is rising concern over the Delta variant. This policy helps minimize the number of customers in the Clubhouse to check-in. As such, there are nominal fees which are charged by GolfNow and the Credit Card Company for the service. Those "classic nickel and dime tactics" are not benefiting the golf course, but meant to make it more convenient for you. We sure hope you will try to join us again soon.
