Fun to play
Course was challenging especially the 18th. Staff was extremely friendly.
Great staff.
Course has seen better days, but the greens rolled great. Always a good time at strawberry. Best cart girl on the planet. Chris is a true pro.
Way Too Costly For What You Get
Strawberry has basically lost more than half their greens. There is a disease running throughout over half of them and the others are just so, so shape. I've played here many times and the condition of the course has never been worse, greens and fairways. The fairways are very sparse, with just a thin layer of grass in most areas and many fairways have numerous spots with really no grass at all. I was beyond upset to have made the choice to play here vs. Oak Creek that day once I saw the condition of the greens and fairways. The fact they're still charging their high green fees is ridiculous considering the condition the course is in now. On top of it, I had on a mock turtleneck that day and the guy in the pro shop told me I needed a collared shirt. Now who doesn't know especially based upon their wear on tour for numerous years, that a mock turtleneck is an acceptable collared shirt. Nike's newest line of golf shirts don't even have collars at all and half the guys are tour are wearing them. Also, the Pro Shop barely has any merchandise anymore, so I'm guessing they're having some financial trouble. Give your clientele' the respect they deserve Strawberry, your going to lose them if you don't start providing that and the maintenance your course so desperately needs for the fees you want paid to play there.
Not worth the money.
Played here for the first time, not worth the money for what it is. average course. Are you kidding me for the prices they don't even have GPS and no yardage markers either. if I didn't have my gps and laser I would be completely lost. Can get narrow in some places also.
Not worth the money
I enjoyed playing with my friends but we felt that course wasn't worth the money.
Frustrating
I would never typically complain especially on a holiday weekend however the incompetence of the on course management was extremely frustrating. My friend and I had a 10:20 tee time and the starter asked us to go early as a twosome, he stated we would play a couple of holes and pass the threesome in front of us and join the twosome in front of them. In theory it sounded great.
Well we did just that and asked the twosome to join and the said it wouldn’t work for them! Very obnoxious, they weren’t very good and seemed a bit embarrassed. They stated a friend was going to join them, cheat on and they were going to be a 3 some....
Well we literally waited on every single shot all day!!! No help no Marshall no nothing, everyone getting mad finally on the 15th there were two groups waiting for us to tee off, the twosome in front of us waiting in the 16th tee, a threesome in the fairway- sort of, another group by the approach gap (another 2 some)!!!! waiting to hit on the green, a 4 some on the green and etc etc.... I couldn’t take it and left on the 16th tee.
As we drove i it was more of the same....
You pay good money to play one of my favorite courses and this is what you get? I’ve been a member at Monarch for years however I love to play other tracks. Typically Strawberry, Tijeras, Oak Creek, Arroyo, and sometimes Talega but they always seem to have the same problem and it’s in terrible shape.
I’m certainly not asking for anything, just not happy with my decision to waste my holiday weekend round with walking off the course.
I vented to the young man at the desk and he gave me your card and asked me to send an email, so thanks for letting me bend your ear.
Fun course, over priced
The layout is fun and challenging but the greens were wrecked. At $125 a round I should not find patches and bumps in the greens. They were the worst I’ve played in Orange County I can’t imagine what lead to this condition but I hope they fix it before it gets worse. This course used to be amazing but it will be a while before I return.
Best Public Course in Irvine, CA
Golf Course
- The greens are very well kept and can be very tricky. Make sure you read your putts carefully!
- Sand traps are well kept, which is usually a sign of a nice golf course.
- The fairways are a bit of a struggle. Apparently there is an issue regarding the type of water they’re able to use to maintain the fairways. They’re not terrible but there are definitely better fairways amongst public courses in Orange County.
- The back nine is narrower than the front nine, but not by much. You must be accurate off the tee if you want to score well here as there is not much room for error.
- None of the par 3’s are very long which is nice, because let’s be honest, no one likes par 3’s over 200 yards.
- All the par 5’s are reachable in two except for one 600+ yard par 5 on the back nine.
- There are hardly any homes within striking distance on the course which is nice. There is also only one hole that has water (#10).
- Pace of play is usually pretty good. The greens fees can be a little high but it probably keeps away the weekend hackers who tend to slow down play for everyone else.
FUN COURSE, GREENS ARE FUN. COURSE WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. PACE OF PLAY WAS 4.50 ON A BUSY SATURDAY. IF YOU SLICE OR HOOK IT. GOOD LUCK, FAIRWAYS CAN BE TIGHT.
Great layout/terrible conditions
The staff were amazing! The driving range and club house were great! Nice layout but golf course was in terrible shape! Definitely not worth the money only because of the course condition.
Not worth the money
This course used to be one of the best in OC. The course conditions have completely fallen off a cliff. Fairways are horrible. The greens are terrible as well, with large patches of uneven grass. It’s honestly disappointing to see such great course suffer such neglect. The owners need to rethink their game plan and spend time and money bringing this course back to Par. The current charge of $110 is a complete joke.
no GPS? are you kidding?
Overrated for this area. Poorly marked for distances and no GPS on carts which is surely unusual for a supposedly up scale couse. Usually not too busy on weekdays which may indicate green fees are too high.
Ok course but not for the rate.
This is a decent course and the green were ok. For the cost you would think they would overseed and not have bare spots.
Great Track
I know this is my fault I left the club on one of the holes being a upscale Golf Course I would thought somebody would’ve turned it in my own fault though 52° tailor-made we I know this is my fault I left the club on one of the holes being a upscale golf course I would thought somebody would’ve turned it in my own fault though 52° tailor-made wedge
