Lely - August 19, 2017
Early morning start and the sun was starting to come out. It was warm and there was some moisture on the grass. 4 of us teed off and began a really nice day of golf. The fairways and bunkers were in solid condition. And the layout, as always, was challenging. The one drawback were the greens. Many patches, dirt spots and sand everywhere. I understand that they went through an aerification of the greens within the last month or so. Otherwise, it was a very good day for golf.
Flamingo at Lely Resort
Flamingo is one of two courses at Lely Resort, the other, Mustang, was out of commission. So was the club house, and had to make to with portaloo in the car park. At $55 plus taxes the overall experience was not good. Course design is fine, but some fairways with ruts in, and greens variable in quality and pace. Lots of work going on on the course but workmen didn't cease strimming and chopping when we were taking shots. Avoid the course during the low season. Hugely overpriced.
Nice track!
The course was in great condition especially considering all the rain in the area recently. The layout was interesting and the course moderately challenging.
Interesting Course
We have been wanting to play this course but didn't want to spend the money for the usual green fees. The hot deal was a great price so we couldn't wait to play. The course is very picturesque and has some interesting layouts. Two of the holes share the green - the holes are on opposite sides of the green. Unfortunately, this time of year is rainy so the course was wet and a little muddy. Just before the 9th hole it started raining. We sat in the cart and waited out the shower. After the 13th hole we saw lightning so we ended our game. The carts have a computerized scoring system which was fun to use. The course was very quiet so we started before our tee time and didn't have to hurry. I'm sure during season it is much busier. We hope to play the course again in better weather.
Lely in review
Playing at Lely, on the Mustang course, you would have such high expectations. And this course provides those lofty goals! This course is challenging without being like the US Open. It is elegant in its' appearance. And it is such a great deal in the summertime when the snowbirds decide to migrate back north. You have to play the course to understand what I mean. Just play it!
Lely Resort is ok
The day I was there it had rained tons so it was restrictions on many of the holes and that effect the game as well. Some of the holes where really nice, and some was a bit boring. The condiction of the course was overall not to bad, but far from the best I have played this summer.
I also had to play alone. The round was quick, but not as nice as when you play with others.
Can't believe they charged full price.
I like the Lely complex. Played Flamingo and Mustang several times. I paid full price and soon found that the greens had been aerated recently. Had I known I would not have played there.
Flamingo Course Review
excellent overall. Loved the staff and ease of play. The day we played the course was wide open making it feel like a private course. Friendly staff and others on the course. Great course layout making it possible to drive each hole and stay in play.
Highly recommend.
What You Should Expect From A Resort Course
Another of the great off season rates that make this course affordable to locals once the temperatures rise. The course is typical SW Florida: many tees to suite your game, lots of water carries, fast greens, good carts, and excellent service.
Not Particularly Memorable Golf Course
GPS System on carts did not work. Layout of the par 4's was quite repetitive. No memorable "signature" hole or holes
Course needs a few weeks
Course has a good layout and greens where recently air aided but ran fast and reasonable true. Played it before in much better conditions but it is a great course that needs a few weeks to settle in
Was very disappointed with Flamingo Course condition. NOT ONE TEE was level.... fairways were beat up and the greens were not in good shape at all.
Had played Mustang last week & felt it was a really good golf course. Exact opposite of what I had experienced at Flamingo. The greens on Mustang were phenomenal! The holes were also way better in general, plus the course condition, especially the tee boxes were far superior!
If you plan on playing Lely, would strongly recommend you play Mustang.... way better value and a really fun layout!
Difficult, condition just ok, little character
10 handicap and thought the course was very poor value for the money. Paid the rack rate the first time ( $180) and got a deal the second ( $106) didn't enjoy either, won't be going back. Holes uninteresting, condition average, try Hammock Bay or the Rookery around the corner. Both MUCH better condition and much more interesting. Rookery difficulty about the same as Lely, Hammock a little bit easier. Both much more scenic .
