Great Course, service not so much
We played this course on a Saturday afternoon. I have zero complaints about the course itself. It was in good shape and a nice layout. For starters we were sent out behind two Fivesomes. The last 12 holes we waited on every shot to hit. This course doesn't go by the clubhouse and the halfway house was closed. We didn't see the beverage cart until hole 12. This was about 25mins after she drove right by us as we told her we wanted to buy. The valet at the end of the round was a debacle and we ended up just getting the keys from the stand and walking out to our cars ourselves. I don't usually complain about things like this but when you pay what we paid you expect the service that comes with that.
Got to play 2 rounds in 7 hours
Got sent out as a 2some and the pace was great. Teed off at 10am and play forst 18 in just under 4 hours. Asked to replay and went right back out after a hotdog and played that 18 in just about 3 hours joining another 2some on the 16th hole. Palmer course was great. Never got on the saddlebrook course.
Quite poor conditions. Greens not in very good shape. Seems like the resort is dying.. Not worth the money compared to other courses in the area..Would not go back until it is upgraded.. Pace of play was good because there was no one there when we played.
My review
Great layout and conditions enjoyed it very much, fifth round in eight days in the area so I was getting pooped. Love the isolated holes thru the cypress, definitely a little bit less forgiving then the Palmer course. Enjoyed both Saddlebrook courses.
enjoyable
This resort course made for a nice day, but is a little past its prime. The greens were is good shape for January. We teed off at 9:45 and had no one in front of us so our twosome finished 18 in a blazing 2 hours and 50 minutes. An hour for a nice lunch at the outside bar and we had time to add a second 18 for the day on the SaddleBrook course. One complaint. One pin placement was ridiculously right on top of a steep crest. impossible to putt down to the hole without ending up 30 feet away. Getting back up the hill was equally idiotic. A nine handicapper recorded a 6 putt there. that pin location should never be used again without a clown face or a windmill. The course could use some investment, but all in all it was a nice day
warm up for US Amateur Tour
So i played this course last year…. i didn’t fair so well i shot 95… it was windy that day… winning score was a 76… i didn’t rate it last year, but liked it… ok… let’s go, first up the price…. as a resort i guess i can see the 89$ golf now fee… not great but ok… golf shop and staff… nice people , golf shop seemed a bit bare. but still ok… carts and starter… nice carts and starter is on point… i did see a few marshals so that was a plus… course conditions were where they should be for winter conditions… greens rolled true and no major issues with them. fairways and rough were fine as well… my only complaint but not to bad was the bunkers. they had a top layer of crusty sand. but that would be from the water in the morning and it was really hot so i guess they dried out… i did notice someone took a few blue tee box markers? but over all i would say for the time of year a good solid 4.5 … final score was a 73 +2 from the tips. looking forward on playing it again in two weeks for the US Am tour
My opinion
Can’t say enough about how the staff rallied and came to my rescue when my budget rental car failed to start in the morning, a big thanks to all. With regards to the course, I have always enjoyed Palmer design courses and this one was great, looking forward to playing the sister course during my stay. Other than some minor tee box and fairway conditions I thought the course was in great shape, really enjoyed the whole experience.
Not worth what they charge
Very confusing layout, when you first come in you drive past the range then go 2 miles into the development to drop your car off with valet then to walk 1/4 mile to the pro shop just to go 2 miles back to the range then to turn around and go 2 miles back to the 1st tee. The course layout is probably the only thing i would say is worth the $70-$100 price tag other than that you can find better courses for half the price if not less. I was genuinely surprised in the green conditions especially after reading reviews about how they were better than others in the area. There were weeds growing on every green, two of the greens had sections under repair.
The greens were very good
The tee boxes were kong from overseeding i believe, other than that small blemish, the Palmer course was in better condition than 3 others we played this week. None had greens that rolled so smoothly.
Course is in poor condition
It is a shame to charge a high price to play this course which is in bad condition.
