Fun Old World Resort Golf
I really like this course because it's the closest course to Tampa with rolling hills. I'm a big fan of resort golf and Saddlebrook has the amenities to provide a country club style round without being an exclusive member. I usually enjoy myself a little too much when I play a round here. The pool bar is a nice place to relax before calling it a day. There's even a golden tee in the game room if playing 18 wasn't enough. I always look forward to my next visit.
Review
Best course I paled this year. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Most other courses in the surrounding Tampa area should pay close attention how well the grounds keepers work the course. If you want to play better then please paly here. Yours scores will improve.
Good work Arnie!!
Travelled 50 miles from Orlando area to play the Palmer course and was not disappointed!! This is a really nice layout with some lovely holes with just enough water in play to keep players on their toes. Course was in great shape including the greens which were slopey, true and fast enough. Would highly recommend
Ran down!
Saddlebrook courses used to be an absolute joy to play but something changed and the course is in terrible condition.
1. There are weeds everywhere, including the greens, fringes, tee boxes, etc.
2. The greens are extremely slow and some of them are unplayable to be frank. Mud patches on the greens every few holes. Golf balls don’t roll well through mud nor do they roll true. We had to pick up our balls and say this isn’t with it on some.
3. I don’t mind the red carpet treatment and having to valet my car but it seemed like overkill. Tip valet, tip shuttle driver, tip the guy who grabs your bag and then do it all over again when you get back.
Can be a little overwhelming/boarderline annoying for some.
4. No cart girl.
5. Fairways surprisingly not the worst I’ve seen but far from the best.
The only thing that we enjoyed was that it was Memorial Day and had a 3 hour round. That’s where the stars come from.
Beyond worth the money
Awesome course, the saddlebrook was getting some greens work done but the Palmer was incredible. Played as a solo but lots of fun holes that don’t kill you on distance but requires some well played shots. Greens were fast with lots of movement, great time and worth the extra drive and money from Tampa. Staff is beyond awesome as well!
Greens are in rough shape
Overall the course was decent but a few of the greens were in god awful shape.
Disappointed
Course conditions lacking attention in sand traps, maintenance in some areas. Carts not up to date.
My perception money is an issue.
I like the layout, shame is not in better condition considering it is at Saddlebrook resort.
Great day Playing golf with Family
Last Sunday I had a tee time scheduled at Saddlebrook to play the Saddlebrook course. When we arrived at the pro shop and told them are tee time the attendant told me that the Saddlebrook course had just been aerated and the greens were very bumpy. They instead let us play the Palmer course which was in great shape, the pace of play was great and in fact we had the whole course to ourselves. We throughly enjoyed our outing and would recommend the Palmer course to anyone looking for a fun, challenging golf outing.
Needs Work
Upon arriving, we were greeted by the extremely friendly staff at the valet parking area and clubhouse. We proceed outside to get a cart and we’re told that we have to wait for a cart because “we told them inside not to take any more GolfNow reservations”. I booked the tee time 2 days in advance so it was not short notice and the general unfriendliness of the gentleman getting carts to players was the best first impression. The course itself is a great layout, pretty straight forward and the pace of play for my friend and I was at about 3.5 hours. We were told in the clubhouse that the greens were aerated and we are pretty understanding that they won’t be in the best shape after being aerated. What we saw on the course was downright laughable at how bad the greens were. To add to that, most of the tee boxes were chewed up and very long if there was grass. I’m normally not one to complain but this course needs A LOT of work.
Tired course, tired equipment, tired resort
Not much watering of the fairways, dry and grassless in areas. Several greens patched, but not tended properly for patch to gain a foothold. Careless cutting and replacement of holes. Many ball washers had no towels, what towels there were are threadbare and in tatters. The ball washer water was as brown as dirt. Cart paths were missing several sections of concrete, or rough and broken. Signage poor throughout the course, whether trying to find the range, or back to the course. No tread on cart tires. Played more like a bad muni than a 'resort' course.
Not Worth the Price!
I played the Saddlebrook Course on 5/8/22. I did not stay at the resort. The parking situation is horrible. There is valet parking, however the setup is not ideal. I ended up having to carry my cart bag probably a quarter mile to the cart I would end up using. The starter was excellent and the only thing that made the entire experience tolerable. I was started off on #10 and right away you could see that this was the typical Florida resort situation. Were at one point it was a top notch facility, however there is not nearly enough money put into keeping the course maintained properly. Interesting since I paid $77 to play and I am a Florida resident. The cart was old and raggedy with not even a USB connection. The cart paths all the way around the course were horrible. Tee boxes were bad, bunkers OK, and greens......a nightmare! Even the ball cleaning stations were unusable bc the water inside was brown and smelled. The cart girl was good, saw her once on the front and once on the back. This place is basically a municipal course on a resort. I will not play here again and would suggest to anyone to not pay a penny over $45 any time of year!
Definitely worth the visit
Excellent day from the moment we drove through the gates. This is a really enjoyable course in all aspects and a good challenge for all club golfers. The course was in good condition considering the time of year and the usage it must have had during the snowbird period. The course and facilities are well appointed and the staff were all extremely helpful, friendly and happy. My wife and I left the venue thinking that we would definitely consider staying on the course for a week and playing daily.
Hidden Gem
Friendly and Professional staff. Course well maintained.
