S..L..O..W....
We teed off at 11:45AM on a Tuesday but only able to play 15 holes before it got dark. We were on a 6 hour pace. Three 5-somes were so slow we had to wait at least 5-10 mins almost every hole.
The wood
Played this course quite a few times and would rank it to be about average all around. I think it's worth playing now and then but wouldn't hold it up as a favorite. A bit more challenging to score well considering how easy it looks on the score card.
Awesome course to play.. takes a long time to finish
Layout great
maintenance great
Staff great
Green solid
Bunkers lots of sand
Pace of play- sucks ! They let 5somes..
Great for beginners
The fairways are pretty wide and spacious while still have troubles needing navigating. Good mix of par 3/4/5, fun times. We were lucky the group ahead of played fast and the group behind us took their time.
Typical slow round at Lakewood
Since Lakewood is notoriously slow, we figured it wouldn't be to bad since they had just aerated the greens during the week. Tee'd off 10 minutes late and finished our round in just over 5 hours. That's what we get for thinking. This is why we never play here (which stinks because we like the course).
Course was in good condition and the greens, even though they had just been aerated, weren't to bad and rolled pretty good once it dried up a bit as the round went on.
Not as slow as others stated!
So yes, there were a few groups of five but with the exception of baking up on a couple of the par 3’s the pace was not bad. Played on a Friday and it was busy but not too busy.
They really should have a starter at the first tee box to keep things orderly. There were groups already at the tee box that had tee times three groups after ours. Just there too early and no employees to keep it flowing.
Friendly track with solid scoring opportunities. It was a good round!
Bang 4 your Buck
Great Value!! The restaurant/bar and driving range have been updated with state of the art construction, and feels like a legit Country Club when you set foot on the property! Can’t wait to play here again!!
Up to par
Played on 03-27-19 and the course was in excellent condition. The best I seen it in years. You would have to tee off early in the morning to get a good pace of play. We had 7 foursome in front of us and we finished at 3 hours and 50 minutes. That's with the group in front of walking and 2 walking in my group. Anything after 8am tho your looking at at 4 hour plus round.
Fairway and greens were great but the bunker was very wet and would need a full swing to get out. Overall I would play and recommend the lakewood golf course to any golfer at any level.
pleasantly surprised
I have not played this course in 10 years. Practice facility is newer and in great shape. Restaurant has some friendly folks working and good breakfast. The round was a typical Saturday LB round 5 hours. Course was in good shape and pace was average.
Slow
Too many 5'somes grouped too close together, no marshals on the course, no beverage cart on the course
Slow play at Lakewood Country Club
Overall the course is in good condition but the greens could be rolled in the morning. Too many footprints near the holes.
Main issue with this course is the speed of play! Very slow, it took me almost 6 hours to complete. Not acceptable! There needs to be a Marshall roaming the course to make sure groups (5somes) are moving along! I’ve already written to the GM of the facility to improve speed of play. We will see how that goes.
It’s sad because I am a local Long Beach resident but I always play outside of my area due to value and slow play. Hopefully this improves!
