Don't play here
The course itself is nice. The greens were rolling nice.
I have played this course a few times over the past 20-30 years. I have only played two rounds in my entire life (I'm 68 years old) & both have been at this course. We had a 1:40 pm tee time and start close to on time. When we arrived at the 5th tee box we were the third group waiting to tee off, ridiculous! We saw that a group in the 6th fairway was a hold behind the group in front of them. So we called the pro shop to see if we get the marshall out to assist with speeding things up.. We were asked if we could be placed on a "brief" hold to which we said yes (what else could we have done). 15 minutes later we were still on the "brief" hold so we hung up. It took 3:05 to complete the first 9 holes. After completing 12 holes (4+ hours) one of our group had to leave because he had another commitment. Then after 14 holes (almost 5 hours) two more in the group had to leave. I wasn't going to be the lone player between two groups of four so I bowed out too. We wouldn't have been able to complete the round anyway because it was past 6:30 pm with sunset at 7:02 pm.
Maybe I'll play here again, if I can get the first tee time of the day!!
Too slow
We chose to quit after the eleventh hole. There were two groups of four at the 12th hole. One just starting to Tee off and us (2) along with the other group of four waiting. The entire course was very slow, always waiting. That, and no beer or snacks to be found except the clubhouse. You'd think at 4ish on a 100 degree Sunday that they'd have some refreshments. There were only two of us so we were patient until that major back up. You're talking 30 minutes per hole to tee off if we played it out. Lots of potential but...
Not country club conditions
Front nine needs some work on some fairways and rough. Patchy all over. Pace of play was slow because two groups ahead of us waited until the green cleared on the first tee and never caught up.
Lakewood County Club
Nice course. It was good to see the Marshal driving around checking pace of play.
Too slow on weekends
Took 4 hours to play 11 holes after which I couldn’t take it anymore, so had to leave. There are no marshals to ensure pace of play. 3 groups waiting on par 3s and not waving to the ones on the tee to hit despite the signs saying to do so. Also, 20+ handicappers playing from the blues.
Great Course, Terrific with Some TLC
Had a 3:40 p.m. Tee time on a Saturday as a single player (The course will rarely allow for a single unless a tee time has three slots already booked). The staff was friendly in their practice facilities had everything you needed to get ready for your round.
The course plays longer than most in the area and, although it is a more wide open space than its neighboring courses like El Dorado Park, there are still enough obstacles to make for a round that is challenging for all skill levels. The greens were in great shape and ran at a good speed. Although there are some holes that have challenging brakes and levels on their greens, I would not say the greens are difficult. The part of the course that could use the most improvement are the bunkers where some are just holes with dirt while the rest have the consistency of a cart path.
The front nine was a decent piece of play with us not having to wait a whole lot except on par threes. By the time we got to the first par 3. On the back nine, we were at least couple groups deep on each hold a tee off, resulting in us only getting through 15 holes. There's not appear to be an active martial on the course, but for starting so late on a Saturday, it wasn't very likely we would finish unless everyone played ready Golf.
For less than $50 at my list of time, it was a great experience and would be phenomenal if they could work on those two aspects of better bunkers and better pace of play. Would love to play again sometime in the future!
Will be coming back for sure!
3:30 tee time managed to finish before sunset with great pace of play. Great course, the layout was very enjoyable. Easy to make putts on these greens. I suggest avoiding bunkers at all costs as they sand is hard and make outs difficult but other than that it was a great day out!
Very nice surprise
This was our first time playing this course and we were very happy with our decision to give it a try. The course is very well kept. The Tee boxes are good, fairways are green and the greens are very nice! The layout was long (especially on Par 3's) and challenging but overall it was a great day on a beautiful course. I would definitely play here again and highly recommend this course to anyone who loves golf! Give it a try... you will not be disappointed.
Great Shape/Needs a Marshall
Course is in great shape. Greens are very nice. Most fairways are in really good shape. There are a few spot in need of or under repair. But those are few. However, they really need a Marshall on the course. There was a group, 2 groups in front of us backing up the whole course it took over 2 hours just to play 7 holes. The group was very inconsiderate and rude when we let them know they were 2 holes behind the group in front of them. If pace of play were addressed, this would be a great course.
