Tucked away in the beautiful Ft. Caroline area near Jacksonville, Hidden Hills Country Club stands on a historic battleground that witnessed the fierce struggles between France and Spain and continued into golf history with searing competition during the heyday of the Greater Jacksonville Open.
The 6,892-yard private golf course, built in 1966 on an ancient sand dune, was redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1986. Palmer's creativity helped create a championship-caliber golf course unmatched in natural beauty that makes excellent use of rare hilly terrain to create a unique Florida golf challenge. The fairways are lined with majestic pines and stately oaks, and the unpredictable greens have helped Hidden Hills gain the reputation of being one of the most challenging courses in North Florida.
Sharp doglegs, strategic placement of water hazards and putting surfaces that are mostly elevated serve up a mighty test for the low handicapper. Approaches are narrow and many of Hidden Hills Country Club's greens are well bunkered.

Still not very well conditioned
Disappointing how long it's taking for conditions to improve. Worth playing on a discounted basis if looking to practice or otherwise work out some game kinks. Not in a condition to truly test one's overall skill.
Needs TLC
Hidden Hills was a classic of its kind in Jacksonville 30 years ago. Flat NE Florida had only the now defunct ‘Ravines’ to match HHCC elevation changes.
But time (or carelessness) has not been a friend to Hidden Hills. A local public links like Jax Beach has tee box/fairway/rough and greens in much better shape annually. HHCC is a nostalgic course and a unique track, but it needs a new greenskeeper and groundskeeper. Worth $30 more per round if standards matched the upper 20% of courses in Jax MSA.

Poor Conditions
I tried giving this course another chance after a few months since I last played here and it continues to disappoint. The greens and fairways are in horrendous shape. I'm talking literal 2ftx2ft squares of missing turf in numerous greens. The majority of greens were cut to the length of the secondary cut. This course charging above average prices for sub par conditions is borderline robbery. All the other courses in the area with similar pricing are in far better condition so there's really no excuse other than poor maintenence.

First 9 holes are under construction with parts of the green cut out. Fairways were in bad shape, ruff was very ruff. Person taking my money in the club house was not friendly. If the course was in better shape I would have enjoyed it, very challenging for someone who shots in the low 90’s and I liked the layout. Final thoughts, only play this course when it’s in good shape or you will be disappointed.

It was okay!
I so wanted to love the experience after reading some positive reviews. It wasn’t awful or great. It was just okay. The course is in decent shape but many the fairways had many dead areas and for a Florida course at $75 for a round I had higher expectations. The greens were okay as well but many dead spots on the greens where I had to move my ball to putt.

Rude Employee with terrible course conditions
Played this course back in March. Very rude and unhappy guy behind the counter. Course was very dry, brown dead grass, very rough green conditions.
Played Friday 7/26/24. I was hoping for better service and better course conditions. Walked into the pro shop round 7am, same guy was behind the counter and he glances at his watch, like I’m early. He gave me a look like, “ Ugh, first customer already?” He didn’t say hello, good morning or anything” just asked me with a tone to his voice…”What can I do for you?” I just kinda chuckled and said I have a tee time! He didn’t say anything else the whole time I was in there and then he did the exact same thing to my friend 5 minutes later.
On top of that, course was in really bad shape. Everything may have been a little greener since March, but very patchy, very sandy, greens were about a 1 out of 10. Looked like diseases on some of the greens, there were 2 large holes in one of them and they were very inconsistent.
I won’t be returning due to the pro shop employee and these terrible conditions.
