Hidden Hills Golf Course

About
Tucked away in the beautiful Ft. Caroline area near Jacksonville, Hidden Hills Country Club stands on a historic battleground that witnessed the fierce struggles between France and Spain and continued into golf history with searing competition during the heyday of the Greater Jacksonville Open.
The 6,892-yard private golf course, built in 1966 on an ancient sand dune, was redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1986. Palmer's creativity helped create a championship-caliber golf course unmatched in natural beauty that makes excellent use of rare hilly terrain to create a unique Florida golf challenge. The fairways are lined with majestic pines and stately oaks, and the unpredictable greens have helped Hidden Hills gain the reputation of being one of the most challenging courses in North Florida.
Sharp doglegs, strategic placement of water hazards and putting surfaces that are mostly elevated serve up a mighty test for the low handicapper. Approaches are narrow and many of Hidden Hills Country Club's greens are well bunkered.
Hidden Hills has a rating of 74.0 from the championship tees, and the slope rating is 136.

Course is in terrible shape
This is the worst I have ever seen this course and the audacity to still be charging the insane rates is mind boggling. I will not be returning to the course ever again. It was slammed busy so they are making money. The course should not be in this bad of shapes. The greens weren’t even work attempting to putt on. Had a 10:26 tee time but it was so backed up we didn’t tee off til 10:50.
Set up to be fun, but needs help
This course really could be a gem, and according to the guys we were paired up with the course used to be excellent. Challenging holes, great elevation changes, and enough water to make you order more balls on Amazon during your round. Fairways were decent, sand traps were hit or miss, but the greens were ROUGH. It didn’t look like they were recently punched, but it did look like a snowcat drove over them trying to groom a ski trail. They were unbelievably bumpy, and some greens just had huge patches of turf sitting loosely on the ground. That round was the first time I’ve considered using a wedge on the green. It honestly looked like something may have happened that ruined the greens. A storm of some sort. I say that because the practice greens were all closed due to maintenance. And finally, the first guy we met working in the pro shop couldn’t have been more unfriendly.
I think this course could be great, but it needs some time to heal.
ROUGH
This used to be a beautiful course but it has been horribly neglected. I'm giving them some credit, because they're resodding and respraying, but that credit only goes so far. Most of the greens are nothing more than dirt and seed. They have signs that the sprinklers are supposed to come on every hours but I never saw them come on, and the ground was rock hard. On top of that, instead of limiting tee times to reduce wear while the course recovers, they're overbooking tee times (I heard the guy behind the counter explaining to a customer that they overbooked their tee time). IMO this course will never recover and they're putting a band aid on top of a festering bullet wound. It's going to be at least until next spring before i play there again unless tee times drop to $20, because that's all it's worth
Stay away
What a disappointment.. We like Arnold Palmer courses, but this is a stinker because the ground sure just awful. The greens are unplayable inmost cases. A real shame as the layout is ok. Pro shop staff was not cordial in any way. Bag boys were just fine.
Interesting fun layout
Really fun layout. Lots of elevation changes, and an island green. There were some ground under repair areas, and some of the greens were pretty rough. In fairness every course I played this week had green issues to some extent. At least you could see they were working on it. Nice clubhouse, proshop, locker rooms. Still a good deal for a round in the $45 range. Pace of play was awesome, only had to wait at all on the last few holes. I'd play it again.
Hills not hidden
Beautiful day. Surly pro shop guy and a very angry starter on what appeared to be not such a busy day. First nine holes had aerated greens. Everything got better in the back nine including seeing the car girl.
Challenging course and with a better attitude from the staff it could've been an A+. We will be back.
The course overall was not in very good shape. Several greens had little or no grass and the some of the fairways are in need of some work as well.
Thankfully the green fees are not overpriced considering the condition of the course.
the course is in very bad condition. there is some work being done , but overall greens are horrible as well as the tees, no grass. fairways are hard as concrete.
Greens are ROUGH...
The overall layout of the course is great, but the green's were in poor conditions. They were extremely rough and seemed to be neglected and more of a "Band Aid on a bullet wound" type care was used to maintain them. I was expecting better from a course with such rich history, I will definitely look elsewhere for my next golfing experience in the Jacksonville area. I do not like to give such negative reviews, but it was just too much to not say something. I can only hope that they can improve the greens and restore this beautiful course to it's former glamorous identity.
In Bad Shape
I have played Hidden Hills many times in the past. This is by far the worst condition I have ever seen this course. The greens are very bad where the ball bounces to the holes. Some holes the tee boxes have sprinklers going because they are so bad that you have to tee off in the middle of the fairway. Even the fairways have a lot of dry dirt spots. I don't recommend this course at all in its current condition. Especially what they are charging. I'm glad I got a discount using my Golfnow account. I was very disappointed.
Big disappointment
Golf Now kept telling us to try this course in our area (Amelia Island) so we drove 45 minutes down there and wished we hadn’t. Greens were unplayable, sanded, bumpy and just bad. This must have been a good course at one time, but was awful for us.
Greens need massive help
Love this course layout. Always challenging. But the greens were horrible.
the greens are in really bad shape... the course is great to play, but the greens killed the short game
Arnold is grieving
A lovely looking facility but the course conditions are awful. They lost the greens and they won’t recover anytime soon.
Struggling greens
The staff is very friendly. The course layout is great and is one of the few courses in the area that has some small hills on it. The course seemed a bit dry and hard but the disappointment is the greens. They are bumpy and dry. At some point they may need to be redone.
Great layout, horrible condition
Great layout but they have lost their greens completely. It looks like they are working on the problem but right now unplayable at best. The fairways were not great either, many barren areas.
Played this course about 10 years ago and it was amazing. Was really looking forward to the round and was hugely disappointing.
Just terrible
It’s sad that this used to be such a great course. The greens are not playable. Should be be charging more than 20.00 to play for these conditions.
Course decline
Played this course multiple times in the past and it was a premier track. I was back to Jacksonville for a visit after 5 years away and gave it a try. What a disappointment, the pro and superintendent should be ashamed of the condition the course is in. And they are still charging premium rate.
