Hidden Hills Golf Course
About
Tucked away in the beautiful Ft. Caroline area near Jacksonville, Hidden Hills Country Club stands on a historic battleground that witnessed the fierce struggles between France and Spain and continued into golf history with searing competition during the heyday of the Greater Jacksonville Open.
The 6,892-yard private golf course, built in 1966 on an ancient sand dune, was redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1986. Palmer's creativity helped create a championship-caliber golf course unmatched in natural beauty that makes excellent use of rare hilly terrain to create a unique Florida golf challenge. The fairways are lined with majestic pines and stately oaks, and the unpredictable greens have helped Hidden Hills gain the reputation of being one of the most challenging courses in North Florida.
Sharp doglegs, strategic placement of water hazards and putting surfaces that are mostly elevated serve up a mighty test for the low handicapper. Approaches are narrow and many of Hidden Hills Country Club's greens are well bunkered.
Hidden Hills has a rating of 74.0 from the championship tees, and the slope rating is 136.

Going down hill
Course is lacking grass and this is coming into prime season. It's almost as if they are not watering. It's sad, great layout and great clubhouse. Maybe pay 20 to play.
Would not recommend
I booked tee time and checked in on golf now. I went inside to get range balls and confirmed tee time with the pro shop. It would have been nice for the pro to let me know I was following a group of junior golfers playing a tournament. I asked to tee off on hole 10 but was denied. Eventually, skipped ahead of the junior golfers then got behind a very slow threesome. Stopped play after 9 holes. The fairways and greens were also in rough shape.
Terrible from start to finish
The starter was a jerk. We were putting at the practice green 7 minutes before our tee time. About to pack up and head to the first tee, which is about 100 feet from the practice green. Got real mouthy and smart with us about being late.
Conditions are atrocious. AWFUL fairways, even worse greens.
Do not waste your time or money.
Poor Course Conditions
I love the layout of this course. Very challenging but the fairways are not good and the greens are unusable. Every putt hops due to the dead spots. Impossible to judge a putt. It didn't help that they placed almost every hole on the side of an extreme hill.
Poor condition overall
Fairways barely playable , greens hard and non forgiving, tons of water and roll into water ++ lost 5 balls- usually I lose 0-1 if at all. Very frustrating round. Quirky and hilly but with the hard ground, hard to gauge where shot will go. Not going back anytime soon.
Sorry but I’m being honest. Shot 104 , usually 92
Pro shop guys and course quality not worth it
Pro shop guys aren’t the friendliest and the track needs some serious work. Tee boxes are horrendous and the greens are spray painted to look like they have grass but it’s mostly dirt. Save your money
Bad Conditions Take Away For Good Layout.
I have been playing hidden Hills since 1989. This used to be one of the premier golf courses in Jacksonville, Florida. However, the conditions of the course are so bad it's embarrassing. On the first hole, there wasn't even grass in the fairway. Slowly, but surely this condition has gotten worse and worse. It would be a lot better if they shut it down for two months and got the grass back in shape. I will be staying away from Hidden Hills for at least a year or two until I know that their conditions have improved.
Course and especially the greens were in terrible shape.
Conditions were iffy for the price
I went to an overpriced Mill Cove. Trash greens. Next time Blue Sky will be my preferred course based on conditions and price. Prob won’t be back. Staff was nice.
whole course could use a lot of water to irrigate, very dry. Tee boxes could use some grass
Course conditions
While the staff, club amenities, and course layout are top notch, the conditions are absolutely terrible. I don’t know who the course superintendent is, but they are not doing their job. It’s really a shame for the members too because they have to go elsewhere to play a decent course. The going weekend morning rate is $75 and it should be $35, and that’s being generous. My advice for the course would be to shut it down and make the necessary adjustments to fix it, because it is a gem of a layout but just unplayable
Hidden Treasure?
After a warm welcome of the staff we went to the range.
Enough space and good ground conditions (3-4 stars).
First nine tee boxes on blue were in fair, the whites in poor condition (more used). All fairways were very hard and sometimes sandy. The grass short and lwe replaced nearly every ball to a green spot. The greens on the front nine were also very hard, nearly no pitch marks. It was like playing on a links course. On the back nine the tee boxes and green conditions were much better, not perfect, but playable.
Pace of play on front nine took us about 3 hours, the back nine we needed 2:15h. Tee times every 8 minutes with 4 somes is too short.
Overall the course has a great layout and with better conditions of fairways and greens, it is for me a place to play again.
Hidden Hills
This was the absolute worse golf course I ever played. The layout wasn’t bad but the conditions were terrible. No grass on the tees or the fairways and the greens were painted.
Don’t waste your money playing here.
Terrible Experience
Tee boxes are marginal, fairways are all hard pan, greens are horrible. No way worth $70
Needs work ++
Tired older golf course now public- fairways and greens need alot of work and water! Traps wet and sluggish. Lots of water mid 9 and into back 9- lost 5-6 balls which I rarely do. This course Might be ready to actually play with grass in May- now just cement on fairways and tee boxes . Greens bumpy and poor growth- they should dedicate a few weeks to grow and groom the course- back 9 and then front 9. Clubhouse beautiful but I’m not playing in there.
Well used track
It’s been a while since I last played here. It appears the course gets excessive amount of play. The layout is good, challenging. I was told by the marshal, greens were punched, sanded then algaecide sprayed on. The result, hard uneven greens, all but two. The fairways are dry, thin, very little growth in most of them, club down, you get a lot of roll. Tee boxes vary, today we had a lot of sloping boxes, worn down to the dirt. A few exceptions, the par 3 on the back 9, lush tee box. It could improve if given the proper conditions to grow out, eg; water, sunshine, better warmer weather and less traffic. Plenty of water in play. No GPS or course layout on the scorecard, so be warned. Checking in was easy, but my guy was looking a bit stressed, as he put it, “ it’s Players week, so you’re not playing by yourself.” I say give it another month, hopefully they’ll have it in better shape. I did get my money’s worth despite the below average county course like conditions. If it was pristine, I would expect a round for twice the asking price.
