Rating 74.0

Tucked away in the beautiful Ft. Caroline area near Jacksonville, Hidden Hills Country Club stands on a historic battleground that witnessed the fierce struggles between France and Spain and continued into golf history with searing competition during the heyday of the Greater Jacksonville Open.

The 6,892-yard private golf course, built in 1966 on an ancient sand dune, was redesigned by Arnold Palmer in 1986. Palmer's creativity helped create a championship-caliber golf course unmatched in natural beauty that makes excellent use of rare hilly terrain to create a unique Florida golf challenge. The fairways are lined with majestic pines and stately oaks, and the unpredictable greens have helped Hidden Hills gain the reputation of being one of the most challenging courses in North Florida.

Sharp doglegs, strategic placement of water hazards and putting surfaces that are mostly elevated serve up a mighty test for the low handicapper. Approaches are narrow and many of Hidden Hills Country Club's greens are well bunkered.

Hidden Hills has a rating of 74.0 from the championship tees, and the slope rating is 136.

Conditions were iffy for the price

I went to an overpriced Mill Cove. Trash greens. Next time Blue Sky will be my preferred course based on conditions and price. Prob won’t be back. Staff was nice.

Course conditions

While the staff, club amenities, and course layout are top notch, the conditions are absolutely terrible. I don’t know who the course superintendent is, but they are not doing their job. It’s really a shame for the members too because they have to go elsewhere to play a decent course. The going weekend morning rate is $75 and it should be $35, and that’s being generous. My advice for the course would be to shut it down and make the necessary adjustments to fix it, because it is a gem of a layout but just unplayable

Hidden Treasure?

After a warm welcome of the staff we went to the range.

Enough space and good ground conditions (3-4 stars).

First nine tee boxes on blue were in fair, the whites in poor condition (more used). All fairways were very hard and sometimes sandy. The grass short and lwe replaced nearly every ball to a green spot. The greens on the front nine were also very hard, nearly no pitch marks. It was like playing on a links course. On the back nine the tee boxes and green conditions were much better, not perfect, but playable.

Pace of play on front nine took us about 3 hours, the back nine we needed 2:15h. Tee times every 8 minutes with 4 somes is too short.

Overall the course has a great layout and with better conditions of fairways and greens, it is for me a place to play again.

Hidden Hills

This was the absolute worse golf course I ever played. The layout wasn’t bad but the conditions were terrible. No grass on the tees or the fairways and the greens were painted.

Don’t waste your money playing here.

Needs work ++

Tired older golf course now public- fairways and greens need alot of work and water! Traps wet and sluggish. Lots of water mid 9 and into back 9- lost 5-6 balls which I rarely do. This course Might be ready to actually play with grass in May- now just cement on fairways and tee boxes . Greens bumpy and poor growth- they should dedicate a few weeks to grow and groom the course- back 9 and then front 9. Clubhouse beautiful but I’m not playing in there.

Well used track

It’s been a while since I last played here. It appears the course gets excessive amount of play. The layout is good, challenging. I was told by the marshal, greens were punched, sanded then algaecide sprayed on. The result, hard uneven greens, all but two. The fairways are dry, thin, very little growth in most of them, club down, you get a lot of roll. Tee boxes vary, today we had a lot of sloping boxes, worn down to the dirt. A few exceptions, the par 3 on the back 9, lush tee box. It could improve if given the proper conditions to grow out, eg; water, sunshine, better warmer weather and less traffic. Plenty of water in play. No GPS or course layout on the scorecard, so be warned. Checking in was easy, but my guy was looking a bit stressed, as he put it, “ it’s Players week, so you’re not playing by yourself.” I say give it another month, hopefully they’ll have it in better shape. I did get my money’s worth despite the below average county course like conditions. If it was pristine, I would expect a round for twice the asking price.

Disappointed

We quit after 9 because it was so slow, so only commenting on conditions of front nine, no starter present.

Great layout, but tee boxes are mostly dirt. The greens are just painted green, don’t let them fool you when driving up. Very patchy on 7 of the 9 greens we played. Lots of bare dirt with no grass.

Great Challenging Course

Hidden Hills was a very fun and challenging course. The greens were well maintained, and the layout of a lot of narrow fairways and lots of water made the course challenging. The staff were super nice, and our group had a fantastic time.

Has potential

Arrived energetic and excited, then we met by the most unpleasant employee to welcome and check us in. We were left to orient and fend for ourselves (fortunately we were not in any rush)

The course was in fair condition with greens hard and the grass appeared to have been sprayed on to concrete but they ran true dispute the bumpy appearance.

The fairways too were a bit bare only to have the T boxes in similar condition.

Course layout was good , with course app and laser we were able to navigate fairly well without course knowledge.

Just avoid Hidden Hills….not worth it.

First of all, this place used to be a real gem. It is clear the management is not focused on maintenance. Bare tee boxes, green sand top dressing on most greens. Some greens look like they have a disease, random grass growing on the greens that is clearly not bermuda. If you like playing Plinko on the greens, have at it. I will not be back.

Once premier course

Hidden Hills was once a premier course. It should be a crime for what they charge. Tee boxes are awfully. Most Greens look like the spray painted they green. Just a real shame as the course has a great layout.
