The Links At Bodega Harbour
About
The Links at Bodega Harbour is conveniently situated along the Sonoma County Coast, only an hour from San Francisco and two hours from Sacramento. Its location perched above the Pacific also provides stunning ocean views. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.in 1978, the back nine was the original course before the front nine was added nine years later. Jones designed a traditional Scottish links layout complete with rolling fairways and fast, undulating greens. There are almost 100 bunkers strategically situated throughout as well as thick patches of native coastal rough that are just waiting to swallow even slightly errant shots. The golf course is not long but it requires both skill and strategy. The final three holes are not only the most challenging, they also boast the most breathtaking views.

North bay gem
I grew up playing this course and it never disappoints. It's your best option in the area if you are looking for a links course near/on the water. It's a course that you can score on if you place your shots correctly. It's not terribly long but you can get into a lot of trouble if you miss fairways or struggle with your approach shots. Add the fog and wind and this course is an entirely different animal. I have loved bodega for years and it will always be a course that I want to go back to.
Coastal Experience
This is what I imagine a "links" course to be like. Closely mown fairways and large undulating greens. Difficult to find a level lie in the fairway and lots of strategically placed bunkers. All makes for an interesting day, until the wind kicks up. On the 13th hole we were hitting into what must have been 30 MPH. We decided to call it a day. One of the most redeeming features is the views from every hole, the other is the 19th hole. On a sunny windless day it could be my most favorite place to be.
Beautiful views!
This course is on a hill which over looks the Pacific ocean. As the name states, it is a links style course and like many links courses this one can be brutal when the wind blows. When I played on June 26th the pace of play was excellent - we did not have anyone in front of or behind us for the entire round. It was windy and cold which made the course extremely challenging, The course was in good condition. The views of the Pacific alone make it a worth while place to play. .
I wish this place was closer!
Go, Play, Repeat. When I lived in Marin, we would try to play this track bi monthly. It's a long drive but we always planned it being an all day affair. Drinks/dinner in Occidental @ The Union Hotel always followed. The course opens relatively easy, usually down wind to get you warmed up as there are no practice facilities worth mentioning. The course stiffens a bit on the 4th and 5th. The 5th is shortish, 3 shot double dog leg par 5. I personally have never made par. The 7th is a long Par 3 that can play 4+shots longer depending on the wind. Holes 8 and 9 are fairly straight forward on their own-but a stiff left to right, or direct head wind forces a bit more conservatism. The back 9 follow the same directional, and advantages as the front. Holes 11 thru 13 are down wind. The final 6 are just fabulous golf holes, with 16, 17, and 18 ALL demanding of accurate golf shots. There is very little room for forgiveness, but the rewards playing them well will give you good feelings on the ride home.
Spectacular Views
Played this course on a warm sunny day - ocean views were glorious. Mostly lined by homes, the course opens with four challenging holes, bookended by narrow finishing hole on the ocean. Sloped greens add difficulty to shortish holes. Often bathed in wind and fog, with constant elevation changes - very challenging course. You must walk short 16th and 17th holes as they play through oceanside wetlands which is unique. Well conditioned with lots of character - spotted a bobcat on the course.
Great Views at Coastal Course
The Links at Bodega Bay give you wonderful views looking out to the Pacific flanked by Bodega Bay itself to the North and Point Reyes to the South. The course itself is a meandering romp though the coastal hills on which it is set. Houses frame the fairways on most holes, but are set back enough that reasonable fades and draws stay in, but hooks and slices are at risk. Some very creative holes here that require hitting your landing zones. 17-19 essentially play right on the beach and are amazing. Wind is a serious factor here. This is an enjoyable, accessible course. Worth playing.
Links on the Front-Wide Open On the Back
This was our first links style course. It was hilly and challenging. Loved the views and the tough course. We will go back!
Playing Bodega Harbour
I was pleasantly surprised. Beautiful views of the harbor and ocean, intermittent sunshine, no wind. Well maintained greens and fairways. Felt like we had the course all to ourselves. Especially enjoyed holes 16 and 17 where you had to hit over the wetlands and walk the boardwalk with provided pull carts. Hole 18 was my favorite. Had no idea from the Tee box that it was a downward green with awesome views of the ocean.I will be back.
Why did I wait so long
This is a course very close to my home (25 mins) and I've always had it on my list of tracks to play. Since I was off on a Wednesday that was scortching hot inland and forecasted 80 deg weather on the coast, coupled with a great deal $33 for 18 holes with a cart, I finally got out there. I wasn't disappointed. This is a fun course with lots of elevation changes, blind shots, and fantastic views of our beautiful Northern California coast. The only complaint I have is the way I played, but that has only left me wanting another shot at it. 16 & 17 were unique. You park your cart and they have push carts for you to walk these holes and 18 is a great finishing hole. This would have been worth the money if I had paid full price. Plan on playing it a few times if your looking to post a low score, and bring an extra sleeve of balls. I don't care how good you are, you won't break the course record the first time out!
December in Bodega
What can you say about golf in December. It was a great day to experience this course. Very few others on the course. 90 rule for carts. Greens were wonderful. Don't know about the bunkers. Although there are ample bunkers on the course I managed to miss them. Almost no standing water on the fairways. It's no walk in the park but is very manageable for the thinking golfer.
Too bad you can't bring your own beverage to the course. My first 3 choices were sold out before noon.
The links
Great course in true links style and with the ocean view on almost every hole sealed the deal
Fun course with great views
It was my first playing here in over 10 years and not sure why I waited so long to return. Great coast course without the high price of the more known options. The Staff was great about letting us know ahead of time that they had afferitfied the greens.
Worst round in a while
Tee'd off at 8 am. Fog till till about the 9th hole (which took 3+ hours to get to). That is my real quip. Just no fun at all paying $90 (well $65 with the golfnow discount) to play golf when you can't see where you are hitting and having to call ahead to the group to see if they are off the green. Was the least fun I've had playing golf in a long time. Also it is quite a trek from SF.
Like fog?
This is a wonderful course when you can see it. The fog in the morning was so intense I couldn't see more than about 100 yards, so tracking the ball was an issue. I couldn't tell if the par 3s were clear from the tee box. Don't go in the early morning is my advice.
To my thinking, more beautiful than Pebble, and more challenging.
All around top notch. Greens are as true as pool table tops. Mounds, and elevation changes are awesome. Views outstanding. Rewards great tee shots, punishes anything less. Would play again and again.
Punched Greens
Staff was friendly and when I asked about the shape of the course, he responded that it was it great shape. When I get to the first green I find that it has been punched as were all 18 greens. No mention was made in the pro shop or online when I made reservation. I really find this to be misleading and frustrating as I would not have made a t time knowing that greens were freshly punched. Other than the shape of the greens, the course was in good shape and the wind was down to make it more playable.
Conditions were great
The course was in great condition. The area was outstanding fairways were nice greens were fast
Challenging and beautiful course
The front nine was tough, especially trying to not hit any of the houses. The views are spectacular, especially the back nine. 16 and 17 are interesting with a walk to the marsh lands but it sure makes for a fun and gorgeous finishing hole on 18. It played slow at times with the par 3s being backed up but it's expected for a twilight Saturday round.
