What Happened?
I have been playing this golf course since the 90's. Never have I seen this course in such bad care. The fairways were cut with a unbalanced blade which left a uneven cut down the fairway. There were tread marks on the greens where the aeration punching was done a month ago, and there was skid marks from equipment that was used, and flooded out areas in the fairways and around the cartpath which is making carts and equipment machines leave sinkholes throughout the course. This course used to be in great shape 2 weeks after aeration of the greens, the fairways were cut fairly close.
Disappointed in cpndition
This course has been in immaculate condition for more than 20 yrs and have played there 6 -10 times yr. Granted, everybody is aerating the courses for 2months now, but the equipment is destroying the course. The grass cutting down the fairway is uneven, there are tread marks on the greens from the aerating done almost a month ago. The mower skidded along the first cut of the greens make it uneven, watering is flooding out spots down the fairway which is leaving deep ruts when carts or equipment runs through the mud hole. This is shameful to what this course has become and asking for the prices they want. They need to fix or fire the person who is responsible for letting this course get into disrepair!
Good course with excellent greens
Course was in good condition and the greens were excellent. A couple of holes the first cut needs to be mowed and a few areas of standing water (leaks in drainage?) but still in pretty good condition. Can be an easy course if you stay in fairway but just enough trees and hazards to make you pay if not. Course slope should be a bit higher IMO. Worth playing; can get good deals.
Bad conditions
I lost four balls that were just off the fairway because there were clumps of cut grass everywhere. Cart paths in bad shape. Some areas were flooded with irrigation water.
Great course for a great deal
Got a hot deal to play. Worth every penny. Greens were in good (not excellent) shape. No real complaints here. Staff was also really friendly and helpful - even the Marshall had ice cold water!
Waste of a Sunday morning
The course was not in good shape at all.
The fairways were decent but the rough wasn’t even mowed and if was there was clumps of mulch everywhere.
The pace of play on the back nine was horrible.
The group ahead of us was 3 holes behind.
Their were no marshals to enforce pace of play.
This used to be a good course but not so much anymore.
Worst Ever!
I have never seen the course condition this bad in my 10+ years playing golf. I knew the course was vandalized but my complaint isn’t about that.
The greens have been punched and it was bumpy but my complaint isn’t about that either.
It is about the fairways that looks more like rough. And it’s about the ground crews leaving all the debris of grass and soil piled high throughout the fairways. There was no way for us to find our ball because there were too much of grass and junks everywhere. The course was muddy too.
The Cherry Island were never a perfect condition but it was decent enough for the price. And the layout is fun and challenging
However, the condition of the course this time around was so bad even the $25 w/ cart felt way over priced. If it wasn’t prepaid I would’ve walked out and demand my money back!
Please have your groundskeeper do their job right or replace them. Or it maybe the management not doing their job. I don’t know. Only thing I know is that I wouldn’t go back !
Where is the grounds keeper?
OK - if they kept the course up it would be a really nice place to play, but they don't.
1. Carts are delapidated - fast enough but falling apart with ripped seats.
2. Looks like they mow the fairways MAYBE once a month - and hadn't yet this month.
3. Tee boxes had just been mowed and looked like they hadn't been in a week - tons of cuttings. You needed to sweep away the cuttings to get a smooth spot to tee up
4. Huge weeds in the fairway - you might hit a great drive and find yourself up against a weed that was a foot tall, or in grass that looked like it shoud be the second cut.
5. Grass around some greens looked like it hadnt been mowed for weeks - crab grass everywhere
6. Greens had just been aerated (not a big deal if they TELL you when you book) but they did not put anywhere near enough sand on the greens - in some places there were just holes with no sand. The ball was bouncing and zig-zagging all over the green, or worse, settling on a hole.
The homeless camps aren't thier fault.
I don't know - maybe the owners are getting ready to sell and want to make the ballnace sheets look good by not spending any money on upkeep - but come on.
We had a couple that were visiting from Korea in our foursome - I felt obligated to appologise for the course and suggest they try others in the area so as to not have this be thier impression of US golf courses, Embarrasing.
Don’t bother - try somewhere else
Looks like they mow the fairways maybe one a month - tall weeds in the center of some fairways, first cut 6” tall around bunkers and green. Tees covered in 1” of grass cuttings. Would be a nice course if they maintained it.
Course needs work
We went into the round with the understanding that the greens had been aerated earlier in the week, yet the greens were the only thing salvageable on the course. The tee boxes appeared to not have been mowed in weeks. It felt like you were playing from the rough and had to tee up an iron like a driver just to get a clean strike. The fairways were almost as bad as crab grass overran a lot of the fairways and there we no clean lies. Finally, the course was saturated. We are in a drought yet there were pieces of the fairway that had standing water. The grounds crew really needs to step up.
Hot day
Most of the course was in great shape considering the weather we have been having , the greens were the best we’ve been on in awhile , bummer they are Aerating them in a couple days , so will probably want to wait a couple weeks before going back
