Mather Golf Course in very good condition
I’ve played Mather golf course quite a few times over the years and this might be the best condition it’s ever been. Fairways, Tee boxes, the first cut, the greens, everything was in good condition. Also impressed that they’re installing drainage in many of the fairways. Looks like they’re maintaining the course better than years past. Not known to drain well this was a course you avoided during the winter hopefully these new drainage systems will change that.
This is a relatively easy course even when playing from the Blues which is 6400 yards. Mostly wide fairways and the ball rolls out well. One pet peeve is the difference between the white and blue tees on some holes are ridiculously long; for example from the blues it might be 417 yards from the whites it’s 325. Looks like they were adding some new T-blocks so maybe this will change in the future. Lastly pace of play today was slow; behind some matches of high school kids? Typically pace of play isn’t bad so this was an outlier.
Please keep the ice water filled
With the return of warm weather this week, there was a run on the ice water jugs and they were all empty by mid afternoon. Please double up the dispensers for the spring and summer!

This course is a great value always friendly staff and and good course conditions. I recommend this course and will keep playing here when able!
The Greens were aerated...which was a surprised to me. If I knew that, I probably would have avoid playing this course for at least 2-3 weeks for the greeens to recover.
Good time, fun course
Fun course, in really good shape aside from the punched greens that are a necessary evil.
Layout is good, not too challenging. Some OB on the course in unexpected places due to sensitive habitat. Now that I know, won't be a problem.
Nice course but going downhill
We have played Mather Golf Course (MGC) various times over the past 10 years. It seems to be going downhill. The driving range balls are old, the in-ground yardage markers on the course are still there but not painted blue (e.g. 200 yds), red (150 yards) or white (100 yards) or listed with distances to the green. So, you better have a GPS range finder or you'll be guessing the whole round. The course is in pretty good shape as are the practice greens. The staff is very friendly. Draft beers are $8.25... so pretty pricey. The golf carts are new and are very nice but without GPS. So, the lack of painted distance markers on course are a problem,. To my previous comment above.. I would give MGC an overall rating of average. Some years ago I would have rated MGC as above average.
On getting there the pro shop staff was friendly.. Starter was very helpful. Course especially the greens were in great shape so all the fairways are starting to dry up because of the heat.. You can see a lot of white life on the course which is refreshing.
Greens were very hard. and super fast. When the ball hit the green it generally bounced and rolled a lot.

Enjoyed a first time round at Mather. Great pace, course needs a little attention, but overall enjoyable round
