Bang for your buck.
Well groomed for this time of the year and great staff. The only bad thing I would say is my fault is my fault. I didn't dress for the weather.
Best value course in Sacramento.
Unfair review due to wet conditions. Always enjoy playing here but drainage system makes it difficult during rainy season. Will be back :)
Staff
Outstanding staff, from pro shop to starter to Marshall’s. All excellent, helpful and friendly.
Terrible Course
Just a horrible poorly maintained golf course. No way would I ever suggest this course to anyone and I don't want to sugar coat this review and have other interested golfers be mislead. The practice areas were average at best but not bad enough for a bad review. Then we (my wife and I ) teed off and once on the fairway saw how poorly kept the course was. There was more dirt than grass! No choice but to roll your ball to find some grass. Same with the rough. The golf cart had seen better days with stained seats torn and stressed. The greens weren't bad but few fixed their ball marks and don't miss the greens. Honestly, I would not return if this course was offered for free. I don't know who "Mather" was or is but I would be terribly embarrassed to have my name associated with this golf course.
Greens are in great shape
Need to play on a facility with great greens Mather is right up there. Good speed, good roll, and slight angles to give a good practice place, to get it rolling right
Nice and long
This is a long straight course with no unique features. Water hazards are minimal fairways are wide bunkers are fairly placed so the course is very fair but not particularly interesting. The greens were in great shape for January and the course not too muddy for winter play. Nice staff and good value
Confidence booster
Is a fun and rewarding course, low risk high reward and can’t really lose balls. Overall a great course to work on your game.
I like the course, it's perfect for my level (2 years playing golf). I'm sure I will come back and play it again, maybe next time would be on a weekend to check how busy it really gets. But for weekdays, it's a perfect place to play a round of golf.
Good Value
course was fairly dried out. Lots of bald spots but this is late in the year. Greens had been punched About two weeks ago but no disclosure online or at the course. Greens were a little furry and slow. But all in all not a bad experience for the $31 we paid
Great to start out with friendly and helpful staff. Generally, the course has wide open fairway. Not many hazard around except for one hole. Paid lower rate due to aerification condition but the green was fast even though the conditions of greens was not perfect.
Fair course
Mostly wide open fairways with occasional tree trouble, few traps, average size greens and one water hazard. Average quality overall and not my favorite kind of course as thin lies are the rule this time of year.
Best Course near Elk Grove
Course is in great shape and far more challenging than Wildhawk and in better condition.
Hardpan hard to manage
The fairways are mostly wide open outlined with trees but challenging in length. There are a lot areas of thin grass and tough lies. The traps are decent with a fair amount of give. There's really only one hole where water comes into play. The greens are dry but roll true so you get a fair chance to score. There's wild turkey everywhere but that's all I ever see for wildlife. There's periodic water buckets and an outhouse on the back 9 only, no other restrooms on the course. On this day I got a great $12 Hot Deal so I was glad to come out but it's not one of my favorite courses. Nice people but It's tough conditions when there's hardpan soil.
Comfortable Challenge
2nd time on this course, I'm impressed with the staff that always make you feel welcome and were very helpful concerning course conditions and which T's would suit my play. Rode the course the first time and this time I walked the course. Moderate walk, pace was great.
Warm up range is grass which I like and always in good shape.
I usually look at the course length and slope to determine which Tees to play. All courses give you this information.
It's funny how two different people can play the same courses and have opposite opinions. I guess if you would rather play on dead weedy grass Mather would be your course of choice.
