Fairway grass as long as normal first cut
Great course, greens were near perfect, sand in bunkers very playable. Hit countless tee shots in the middle of the fairway, problem was that the fairway was as long as the first cut should have been (any shot from the first cut you were not able to see your shoes). Anything just off the fairway was gone so if you didn't hit worm burners, any tee shot plugged. A LOT of previously mowed grass covered the fairways so it was almost like an 18 hole Easter egg hunt. Will absolutely play here again and hope the conditions will be better.
Unplayable With All The Water
It had been dry for about 5 days straight including 2 days in the sunshine with 70 degree temps. The course is SO wet from all the rain we have gotten that it's not even worth it to tee off. The staff told up about the conditions, but since I had driven about 30 min to get out there we gave it a go. It's too wet for them to mow, so even the fairways are at rough height. Seriously losing balls that you hit right down the middle because they plugged, and just walking out to the area where you think you landed was sucking the shoes off of our feet. I couldn't believe they would even let people out there to walk around. It will destroy the fairways. Anyway, I have played this course many times, and it's a decent track when it's dry. I would not go out there anytime soon.
Horrible conditions. Course was unplayable and should have been closed. Conditions were not revealed to us at time of booking. The long wet winter turned the fairways into "mud sponges" . When we checked-in we were given 15 extra balls and were told not to bother looking for our tee shots cause they'll probably plug and be unfindable. Just drop. They were right. could n't find a single one. Gave up after 9 and they refused to give us a rain check for the back 9.
Sloppy
The weather was great, the greens were nice and rolling true albeit a little slow. The fairways were too wet to play. Nice touch by the proshop to give out a generous handful of balls to loose, instead of loosing your own.
Not a course to play in the Winter.
The course is fine. It is flat and long. I played a day after a rainy day. This course does not drain! To their credit as I got to the course I was informed of that fact. I will avoid this course in the winter. Give it a try in the summer.
Brisk Saturday Round
Cool day but perfect golf weather. Course was a little spongy from the recent rains, but the green were rolling really fast. Loved it. Great round, love all the elevation changes. Beautiful day.
great shape
the greens are very nice and pretty quick and the fairways were in good shape no weeds lots of wildlife
Open fairways
Great course. Big open fairways. Didn't lose any balls. We booked the hot deal which was a great value. The regular prices are pretty expensive. Overall had a great day.
Great old military course
Course was in very nice shape. In prior years the fairways would have many dry patches, but not now. Also love all the air force touches like naming the carts, tee boxes, etc after military aircraft. Nice pro shop, all around great day.
Good conditions
Course is in really good shape. Was playing a little longer since it was early morning and not much roll. Rough was deep in some areas. Greens were on the slower side but rolling good. Watch out for the bunkers. They were damp but plugged deep a lot in the middle areas, but upper parts of the bunker watch out for some spots with little sand and hard must below the surface so can give your wrist a jolt.
Repair your ball marks
The clientele at this course have an aversion to repairing ball marks. I found myself repairing 3-4 marks per green. There were an excessive number of unrepaired marks.
GOOD VALUE
If this course was not 35 miles from my home, I would definitely play it more often. I normally play during the week and the commute across Sacramento at peak travel times is a nightmare. Having played on Sunday, the travel was not a problem.
Nice time
Joined 3 some playing from blue tees making course a bit long for old duffer like me. Secondary rough around greens made chipping difficult but a good learning experience. Making new friends (typical at Mather) a fun afternoon.
Good Course with Fast Greens
Tee to green, this course is not difficult. Wide fairways allow for some mis-hits.
The greens are very, very quick.....at least 13 on the stimp.
Overall, a nice course but I think a bit pricey for a county owned course.
Great course.
Had a great day at the course. First time ever going would recommend it to anybody yet that I know of that golf the greens are great the fairways were good too. Definitely plan on going back. I've been coughing about every other week. But for some reason it doesn't give you that option to tell you that.
Like-able course, long par 4's a challenge
The course is not challenging, other than longish par 4's. Fairways wide. When I played, greens were in good shape. Bunkers were wet and clay-ey...very challenging to hit out! I've played this course many times. Played in just over 4 hours.
Nice course
Nice course, greens well maintained
