Fun course but super windy day
Fun course and got a great deal on golf now for 16 with cart! Really windy on this day, a day that i would have par'd every hole or shot 1-2 under if the wind wasn't so intense. A couple shots could have used another club because of the wind. All in all a fun and challenging day almost links like with the wind. Greens are in great shape and roll true, you really have to bring your draws and fades at this course or it can be extremely tough, look on golf now for great deals.....
Great Course
The people at Mather take pride in making sure the course is ALWAYS in good condition. As was the case this week, the fairways and greens were in fantastic shape and the rough was challenging but not unfair. Good job as usual. Bomber Burger afterwards was great too.
Drought Victim?
It hard to play when there are so many hard pan in the fairway and rough area. Not sure if this is due to poor maintenance or the drought. Greens were decent though. Pace of play was horrendous. We were stuck behind a slow group the whole round. Every shot we had to wait. There was no one behind us for 3+ holes and there was not another group insight after the group in front of us. Informed the Marshall and he just followed them for a couple of holes and left while we waited every shot, which I didn't get. I guess he was just there to get his free golf.
mather slow play
Pace of play was horrible. 5 1/2 hour round, 4 groups on first par 3, 1 on green 1 on tee, 2 waiting. Several groups ahead playing with 6 in group. No marshall in attendance.
Mather a Hit
Course was in very nice condition and the greens were smooth but a little slow. Got a lot of roll in the fairway. A fun day playing golf.
Enjoyed my teamplayers pace
The pace was aweful. Took 3 hours to complete 9 holes, the pace is negative. Other than that, great tees, plays, people, and main goal is to get the last hole done before sun goes down at 7pm. Took 5 hours.
heat is on
greens are in good shape overall but some spotty fairways are not due to the drought in exchange there is going to have a lot of roll
Average course, basically trees and grass
The course is ok, not very interesting. Do not bother getting the marshall to speed up play. The group in front of us where at a snail's pace and holding us and the group behind us up. Marshall never paid attention. Fees are way too expensive. Good round, despite the slow pace. Beware of the trees! Trees everywhere. Staff is super friendly. There are more scenic and interesting courses in the area.
The course is in good shape for a drought year the fairways are rolling out a long way,
The greens were in decent shape, other then people not repairing their ball marks, (sunday afternoon round), once we got by the slow group in front of us on the turn we played the back much faster, 4: 20 min round not bad. For a drought year they are doing a good job with the course. Thumbs up
Wide Open, Long, Boring
Mather is the kind of course that you could get tired of very quickly. A lot of the holes look the same. Tee boxes are not flat and the sand in the bunkers is like heavy dirt. The greens are usually in good shape, but the course gets a lot of riff-raft playing it and usually find trash scattered about. It is fairly long and the back nine is more interesting than the front.
The pro-shop is a real armpit. I usually find the staff to be rude and feel as though I'm in a check-out line at Target rather than at a golf course. Amazing amount of mice and vols running around the pro-shop grounds outside.
Good round
It was 112 in the sun and 104 in the shade so yeah it was VERY HOT but there is a lot of shade and they hod cold water everywhere on the course. The course was dry but we're in our 3rd year of a drought so as far as I'm concerned it's in great shape and thank you for managing the water. Pro shop, starter and marshals were very nice, thank you.
Nine holes anyone?
Should be more communication with courses overall. This course had a men's league tee off right before my round. If it were not for the staff letting me off the back-nine and me skipping a slow walker, I would only been able to play nine holes. Not worth a super-twilight rate. What's wrong with cheap nine-hole rates?!!!! ESP if that's all you will be able to play
First Time Playing Mather
My first time playing this course was a very pleasant one from the time I checked in the pro shop to the starter to the great guys that had the same starting time as myself. I was really surprised by the excellent condition of the course and plan to play again very soon.
duxter
Always a fun course to play. The pace was a bit slow on the weekend. I would definitely love to play this course every week.
Great course if you want to lower your handicap
Open golf course, wide open fairways and very forgiving. Slight doglegs here and there to keep it fun and not so boring. Easy to shoot your handicap or go low and shoot your best round ever. Great for kids.
Mather was very nice to play
I really enjoyed playing Mather golf course! Staff was friendly, I lost 2 of my clubs and the marshal found them both. I tried to give him a tip but he refused. He was very friendly! I will be back!
Improvements starting to take
Mather's effort to switch to automated watering is definitely paying off. The fairways are much healthier than in the past. A few are still recovering from the install, but playable.
The greens on Saturday were very fast. One person in our group was 12-15 feet above the hole on #6. After his first putt, he was 12 feet below. Yikes!
Sub 4 hour round on a Saturday morning.
Slowest play in Sacramento
This course tries to pack as many people in it as possible. I teed off more than a hour after my scheduled tee time and was not able to finish before dark. This course does have its challenges, especially when it comes to avoiding being hit by some hacks golf ball.
