Good value
Wide open course that doesn't severely punish wild misses off the tee. Rough was spotty in areas. Greens were in good shape.
Spring at Mather
Course is great shape rough lush, long time to play though, still one of my favs when I just want to enjoy the outdoors. Not too stressful!
Fun course - not too much water
Mather is not too difficult of a course yet has the risk / reward challenge on a number of holes. Pace of play is pretty fast and can usually be played in under 4 hours during the week- but usually add an hour for the weekenders. Course conditions are always good and the staff are eager to please. I will easily play this course at least 8-10 times a year. Enjoy.
Weekend Play
We are retired so should not be playing on the weekends. Too crowded and more expensive. We were put with 4 other people. Two players and their wives. That wasn't a problem. Just a little strange. We noticed some 5somes out also. The round was slower than it should have been because the course was packed. We had to quit before we finished because it was getting dark.
Great Pace
The pace of play was excellent! Very friendly staff. The course was in better shape than anywhere else I have played this month! Greens were very fast and challenging! Overal a great experience. I highly recommend Mather Golf Course!
Mather Golf Course
Fairways fast, grass short. Green firm and fast. Bunkers need more sand.
Mather is enjoyable.
The fairways could use more grass but who plays the fairways anyway? Conditions are pretty good It was a good round on a Saturday.
Don't do the mixed-hole thing again
They had us do the holes out of order to "add variety". It took us 45 minutes longer to play, and was very confusing as to where to go to next.
We really like Mather, so leave it alone.
it was too cold to fairly rate the course.
even though it was cold the greens were running great, fairways were running well and overroll condition was good.
greens are in great shape
Good rate. Started on time. A little slow due to holiday players.
Tee Times
I had a confirmed tee time for 9:42AM for a twosome on 11/26/13. The guy I was going to play with could not make it. The parking lot was near empty, and there was very few people at the course. Bill would not honor my tee time about 30 minutes prior to 9:42am. Do you want to be treated like that? FYI, I was a member of the club until today!
nice open fairways, good greens
I play here often, kept in good shape, greens roll well, can get good deals price wise.
Good deal for a "Hot Deal"
The course was well kept with plenty of green grass in the fairways and very true greens. The course seemed well managed and play moved along well for the front 9 but backed up a bit for the back 9. The course was busy but we did see a marshall which may have helped keep things moving. There's a fairly large practice putting green so about 10 people have room to get a feel. There isn't much in the way of water hazards and only sparse traps to defend the greens. You can pretty much air it out off the tees since the fairways are mostly wide open. We got in on a "Hot Deal" for $20 and felt lucky.
Good course and has plenty of choices of distance to play from so can pick your tee area.
First time playing this course so had no preconceived idea of the course. Enjoyed it greatly despite the fact that the fairways were a mix of Bermuda grass, which at this time of the year is starting to enter its dormancy period. the layout is nice and the greens are a couple of weeks away from better conditions- recently aerated and sanded so a bit bumpy. Overall a good time and will play here again in the future.
They are working on punching the course... put too big of holes and not enough sand and didn't smooth it out.
I like the Ladies T's.... most courses are too short for Ladies.
Place of play unacceptable!
Course is ok. Nothing spectacular but the pace of play is ridiculous. If you have more than 5 hours to waste, then be my guess. By all means, play this course. They don't Marshall this place. Too expensive for a municipal course.
6 hour round!
Do your self a huge favor and don't play this course on the weekend. The pace of play was horrendous. 3 hour front nine, with no marshal in sight. Finally saw one at the end of the 9th and he breezed right by. At the turn, a cute pro shop gal came out and encouraged us by saying 2 groups had dropped out and it would be better. Ya, caught the bottle neck again at 12 and stopped the torture at the 13 hole. I then got static because I had the audacity to suggest a coupon for the slow pace of play. They reluctantly gave me a coupon for 5 holes. There are so many great courses in this part of the country, who needs a course who cares so little for their patrons?
Worth playing
Not a bad course. Decently maintained. Comparable to other courses. Decent value for the money. Play was slow because of a tournament ahead of us. There was a group of 5 immediately in front of us and I didn't see the marshall doing much to speed play. Otherwise, no complaints.
