Great day at Mather
Course was in good shape and moved fine for a Sunday. Friendly staff and good deals on clothing and hats.
Mather
Course conditions were good and greens were rolling good also. Fairways were hard so balls roll longer than normal. Finished round in 2 hrs and 50 mins which is a record for me at any course. It was too hot for most folks to play and it was a weekday after all. Will always play here.
Mather
Course was in good conditions and the pace of play for a Sunday was very surprising, less than 4 hours and we started at 1100!
much improvement
OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, THE COURSE HAS IMPROVED DRAMATICALY ,LOTS OF SHADE AND FRIENDLY TO WALKERS.
A Tale of Two Courses
When I pay $55/person to play a round of golf, I expect the course to be in decent shape... Mather is poorly maintained. Every hole has dry patches in the fairways, and I mean substantial dry patches. To top it off, the maintenance team was out on almost every hole we played, over watering other areas... In general, inconsistent playing conditions, dead grass, lots of crab grass, and basically no fringe on the greens... just an uneven ridge around the greens. Very hard to get consistent play from one hole to the next... The bunkers are filled with what appears to be clay.... not good when it's wet.
What day you pick will determine your round
This course is usually in good condition, is affordable for twilight play and generally has a good pace. I thought the greens were well kept, and the fairways were good despite dry conditions.
The underlying factor in whether you have a shot at a decent score on this course is the wind. This course already plays pretty long, but when you factor in the wind it can become challenging. There were a couple holes where I would even club up, but it was as if there was an invisible wall that would just knock the ball straight down. I'll have to learn to adjust my game when I play windy conditions again.
I liked this course though and will be returning.
Mather - Eagles Nest
Former military course for Mather Base. Great set up: parking close, driving range and putting close to first tee. Rough mowed back and course lush and green. Many trees provide shade and divide fairways. Great mix of long par 5s and tough par 3s and 4s. Bunkers in need of real sand; some muddy and most with coarse sand.
Love to play Mather!
Its easy to drop by after work and there is plenty of light left to get in at least 9, excellent staff and the course is well maintained.
Course in great shape but greens very hard
Greens very hard and group in front of us was slow pace!
Mather is maintained
The course is in good condition and it plays much the same as it did forty years ago. If you haven't played this course it is definitely worth a try. Lots of room for errant shots. Good luck
Mather Golf
Mather golf course is a good course to test your game. While not overly difficult, ball placement is encouraged. The greens were recovering from aeration, and the fairways were in good condition-no excessive rolls
Solid Course
There's nothing special about Mather. No signature holes. No elevation changes or undulating greens. What it does have is a beautifully maintained course that plays a bit on the long side. The fairways are always in excellent shape, and the greens roll exceptionally well.
Our Home course
We play Mather's course at least twice a month. It is a very nice course. This last time the Fairways and greens were particularly well kept.
As always it's a great course to play.
I call Mather my home course . It's always in beautiful condition and it's always a great time playing there. They just got new carts and they ride smooth. Greens are fast and the fairways are long. If you haven't played Mather before, I recommend that you give it a try. You won't regret it.
Very well maintained course.
When we got there the staff behind the counter were very friendly. The check-in person was great, he put us on right away, even though we were 10 minutes early, it kept the pace of play very quick. The fairways and greens were better than expected in this drought year, we have been to some that weren't so well maintained. A nice all around 18 hole course, the fairways are wide on most the holes good for the average golfer and the course itself is very serene and fun to play. We will definitely golf at Mather again!
Course is lush
A friend and I played Sunday the 13 at 7:39 am.. The course was in the best condition I've seen it in years. The rough was dense and thick which made it difficult and challenging outta the rough.. The greens were a lil bumpy, they punched them the week before.. All and all great value great challenge highly recommend anyone and everyone to play It soon!!
WORTH A SHOT AT DISCOUNTED PRICE!
We got called to the 1st Tee about 20 mins after scheduled tee time. Took about 3 hours to play 12 holes before giving up and going home.
I thought the course in general was in good shape. I just didn't like that there was no indication the greens had recently been punched. This will definitely cost you a few strokes as the ball bounces all over the green when attempting a putt. Other than that, fun course to play, plan on going back when greens grow in a bit.
Mather greens
Not happy that we were not informed that the greens had just been "holed" - putting was extremeley difficult and frustrating - seems any course should post this AND give a discount when the greens are so bad . . .
Excellent Greens
It's nice that Mather punches their greens later than all the other courses in Sacramento - gives players the option to play here while their home course is healing. Excellent greens and fairway conditions!
Pack a lunch
It's sad that this course has such bad Marshals. I've played here numerous times and it is guaranteed to be 5+ hours. Not because of difficulty, because the marshals are non existent. Played on Sunday and there were 6 marshals on the course, we saw two camped out under a shade tree exchanging war stories while the tee boxes were 3 groups deep
Great course, bad management!
