Good Gol Now Value
Long course which made pace of play a little slow. Went out as twosome paired with a single and then a second single on 2nd hole. Course pretty muddy considering it hadn't rained in a week. Pin placement and speed of greens pretty tough and fast for a muni.
Satisfying experience
aside from the fairways been beat up just a little bit, The course was in good shape. The greens were outstanding. I suppose the traps could use a little more sand.
Poor fairway condition
The course doesn't drain well. Too much mud instead of grass on the fairway.
Bombs away
The course was still muddy here and there but the greens were pretty fast. The round moved quickly. The wet towels that were provided were a nice touch. Staff as friendly as always.
great people -perfect weather-good day-will play again
I am a beginner and clearly appreciated being paired up with 2 gentlemen who were positive and helpful and patient - their positive and generous attitude toward me were encouraging and my golf actually improved as they were not bothered by my being new to golf. This is a great encouragement to learning the game and having fun. I will play Mather again . All the staff friendly and relaxed. Great on-line deal !
Good shape
Very enjoyable course. It was in pretty good shape and the greens were fast. A little slow but due to the good weather I'm sure
Mather GC
Got a good deal on Golf Now, $25/player including a cart. Course was in fair condition considering it's winter. Grass is a bit thin and fairways were muddy. Greens were in good condition but a bit bumpy.
Slushy
Had a short frost delay but not long. The course is very soft from all the rain. The fairways has not been cut for a while so, it was hard to tell from fairway to rough. The greens were cut, and rolling good.
muddy muddy muddy
Picked a terrible time to play Mather for the first time in 6+ months. I expected the course to be wet considering all the rain the Sacramento area has received over the past 7-10 days but I didn't expect it to be a mud pit. The fairways are patchy with grass with mud everywhere. Understand, it wasn't soggy grass...it was soggy mud. Soggy grass would have been just fine. My advice would be to STAY AWAY from Mather whenever it appears that the course will be wet. It was a horrible 4 and 1/2 slog around the course. I will wait until the summer to play here again.
Outing with the Boys
Not to difficult, good place to play casual round. Wide open fairways so play the blues.
Nice course
Well maintained old course. Always a pleasure to play here. Good value during the week and relatively easy to walk 18 holes.
Greatest staff in comparison to all the surround courses!
Everyone at this course is incredibly nice, knowledgeable & helpful in all ways. I'm not usually compelled to write reviews but I figured the workers at this course deserved some recognition.
It has challenges
Due to the drought the fairways had some brown, but the green, for the most part, were in excellent shape and read true. The course plays long but fair. Fairways reward, rough is tough and relatively small greens from long approach shots. A good course that has it's challenges.
Mather
Course is in better shape than it was a couple of months ago.
Only problem was there were spots in the fariways that were muddy & the same fairway had hard pan.
Great day at Mather
Course was in good shape and moved fine for a Sunday. Friendly staff and good deals on clothing and hats.
Mather
Course conditions were good and greens were rolling good also. Fairways were hard so balls roll longer than normal. Finished round in 2 hrs and 50 mins which is a record for me at any course. It was too hot for most folks to play and it was a weekday after all. Will always play here.
Mather
Course was in good conditions and the pace of play for a Sunday was very surprising, less than 4 hours and we started at 1100!
much improvement
OVER THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS, THE COURSE HAS IMPROVED DRAMATICALY ,LOTS OF SHADE AND FRIENDLY TO WALKERS.
A Tale of Two Courses
When I pay $55/person to play a round of golf, I expect the course to be in decent shape... Mather is poorly maintained. Every hole has dry patches in the fairways, and I mean substantial dry patches. To top it off, the maintenance team was out on almost every hole we played, over watering other areas... In general, inconsistent playing conditions, dead grass, lots of crab grass, and basically no fringe on the greens... just an uneven ridge around the greens. Very hard to get consistent play from one hole to the next... The bunkers are filled with what appears to be clay.... not good when it's wet.
What day you pick will determine your round
This course is usually in good condition, is affordable for twilight play and generally has a good pace. I thought the greens were well kept, and the fairways were good despite dry conditions.
The underlying factor in whether you have a shot at a decent score on this course is the wind. This course already plays pretty long, but when you factor in the wind it can become challenging. There were a couple holes where I would even club up, but it was as if there was an invisible wall that would just knock the ball straight down. I'll have to learn to adjust my game when I play windy conditions again.
I liked this course though and will be returning.
