Nice change of pace
Well it was my first time playing here. It is a little bit of a drive from Modesto but was a nice change of pace. I must commend the Course Management for doing a good job in these rough drought conditions. No the course is not perfect but you can see they are doing what they can and with what they have, heck I've been cut back to irragating only 1time a month so I feel for them. You can tell they have not watered in some areas do to this but it really did'nt matter and if I were over there well I probably need to work on my game. Anyways for the price I had fun!
Worth the drive and the price
Played it for $29....had a 9:30 tee time, but no one else was plaing for a while so I was able to go out early.... Greens are in great shape, most fairways are green, but there are a few that are turning brown as they are running out of water due to the drought. Still I had a great experience and would come back again for sure.
Diablo Grande Always a Challenge
This round was challenging due to dryness, greens were difficult to get adjusted to and you must stay in the fairways otherwise don't even try going into the dry grass when is hot or you may meet frighten snakes. If you play the course smart and not over power it you can enjoy a satisfying score. The staff are very courteous from the minute you drive up, refreshment cart lady made constant rounds. I requested an apple and I got it within 30 minutes. If you play during hot weather stay hydrated and enjoy a great mountain links course. Tee it up!!!
Diamond in the rough
We drove in from Tracy; about 45 minutes travel time. Course located in a resort area that is still developing but has good potential. Club house, pro shop and carts all in very good shape. Links style course (lay of the land) and could be fun to play but the course is dried out badly. Drive into fairway only to watch the ball roll down the slopes. Often this resulted in ball rolling off fairway into dry rough or water. Numerous signs warning of rattlesnakes so searching for you ball is not recommended. There are a few holes that will really challenge high to middle handicappers.Staff was friendly and helpful. I'll play here again but only when course conditions improve.
Worth the Drive
The course is hidden in the hills about 8 miles off I-5 in the hills. It plays a lot of up and down hills with some water and sand. The greens were very good.
Suffering
Unfortunately Diablo Grande isn't what it used to be. The legends course has been shut down and the practice facility has been dried out to a horrible yellow. The Ranch course isn't getting much water except for the greens and maybe 100 yards in. Disappointed as this has been my home course for a few years.
Windy but fun
Well the locals could be seen in their backyards with their kites flying high above. That left the course to me and my buddy. It was a good challenge to deal with the wind and kept us focused on proper swing paths. The course was in nice shape although the fairways were showing the effects of the lack of water in California. Greens were in nice shape.
Great getaway course from the city
I love to play here, but now only one course available since the Legends course was closed down permanently for lack of water. What a loss! The remaining course is great, but in very dry condition.
Very nice course, but......
very nice course, first time playing this course, (played legends several times). Nice layout moderately challenging. Course was a little dried out which caused the ball to take funny bounces. Pace of play was great. Didn't have anyone behind us until the last few holes.
Tee-off with Views & Down Hill
Had a very enjoyable day even with the rain. Greens in good shape, lots of course is drying out because of water mandated cutbacks and lack of rain in CA.
Later this summer it may not be in as nice of shape.
They had to close down the best course for lack of water. (Legends) Ranch course winds amongst the homes that have been built. As we got to the final 3 or 4 holes there were no markings as to what hole you were now on, nor were there any pole markings on the par 4's. No mapping of holes and several are blind. Played 17 years ago so forgot layout, map on score cards would be nice. Their free app would not load on iphone. No cell reception.
The Ranch at Diablo Grande
This course has everything from scenery to toughness and great greens. Good fairway bunkers it's all around a great place to play and you can't beat the price for a top of the line course. Great bar area and the food is excellent.
Course is good condition
Course is in good condition overall but the drought certainly has impacted the fairways. Some areas are abit dry and have some yellowing. Greens are fast and in excellent shape. Overall the course is in good shape.
Challenging and fun
first time to play there and I wil be back. If your not straight and long bring a lot of balls. Lots of evavation changes and shots you have to place. I played the Blue tees and there are some really long holes. The first time there you have to figure out which way the green is on some holes and obsticals up ahead. For me it's one of the top 10 bay area public courses, But I haven't played them all yet. It was raining lightly so I will be back on a nice day. #12 was nice--620 yard par 5 , over a ditch on the drive then again on the second shot followed by a left turn a tall wide tree blocking the way to the green. Enjoy
last minute tee time
A co worker and I had to get out after the storms passed an we picked DG an what a day we had a little windy on the front 9 really made you think about club selection the par 3's are fun the club house is great with the open fire place and big screen TV it's a long drive from Bay area and Sacramento over an hour plus but the price and view was worth it.
If its your first time at DG it can be tricky no visual lay out on card or tee box.
This course is great
I would highly recommend this course to anybody. I played the Ranch course and had a great time with my old man.
Overrated
There was no marshal to keep pace of play going. Had groups hitting two and three off the tees, with groups behind them on a busy holiday weekend. No golf etiquette at all.
And groups playing off the blue tees that had no business playing off the blue tees.
Gimmicky Course, Needs Small Improvements
The course is gimmicky that could use some small improvements. It has a Par 5 you have to hit a 150-180 yds off the tee or else you go into a ditch. Then hit 230 to get165-180 yds from the green. Not realistic for a par 5. Another Par 5 is up hill with 2 Oaks guarding it but you can't get any where close to the pin so birdie is unrealistic. The number 1 handicap hole plays into the wind 90% of the time and is almost impossible to get to in 2 by the average golf because of the large ditch in front thus causing him/her an additional stroke or two. The greens are mottled and very difficult to read even on the best of days. More uniformed green colors would make for better greens and better putting opportunities. The front 9 greens are hard and even with high shots, hard to hold. The back 9 are much softer so then you have to quickly adjust from the front. The two sides need to be much more consistent with each other. The fairways are cut so short you get more dirt/mud then divot causing more top shots or skulls then good shots or high shots. On a good note the course has beautiful flow and quiet. It is much wider in the landing areas then some of the tee boxes indicate. The bunkers when dry are extremely easy to come out of and the greens do roll well for as bad as they look color wise.
Great courses
Diablo Grande Legends is the most fun course i've ever played. A perfect amount of challenge. Troon Golf has done a great job with these courses. Mature, healthy and smooth greens make Diablo Grande a real gem. Greens were as good as I've played in a while.
If you want more challenge at Diablo Grande play the Ranch course. It's difficult and there are big number if you're not careful.
Impressed
Openly gorgeous place to play for the buck you can't beat. Enjoyed the terms & conditions on every hole. Really impressed with the personality of the course as well. Compliments to the nature atmosphere it entitles.
Book your tournament or event at this awesome venue!
My family hosts an annual golf outing which is in its 23rd year. We have players from all over CA and out of state. We play courses between Sac-Napa-East Bay and San Jose. This year we played Rancho Grande in Patterson. What a gem! The experience was our best ever. The staff, the course, the buffet, and the price far exceeded our expectations (as did the 1 1/2 hour drive from Sac to get there). We had an EPIC day and the course was very accommodating. This was the best valued venue out there!
