Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Great course, Underrated.
Everyone in the pro shop was great, course is underrated, PRINT OUT YOUR OWN SCORECARD!
Great course, lots of variety. Worth the drive
Nice course with plenty of variety. Greenside bunkers in good shape, fairways well maintained, greens were fast and challenging, lots of water and hazards to consider. Drove 50 min from home to get there, but definitely worht it. I played as a single and twice when I caught up to the groups ahead of me, they always let me play through.. Finished in 3 1/2 hours.
Slow play
1.5 hours to do three holes. Course had no Marshall to regulate play. Further more went into the clubhouse and the manager said “nothing I can do about it” don’t expect to go here and get a full round in.
Comeback underway
This was never a destination resort but, 20 years ago, it was a good golf course. Two years ago...not so much. With a takeover by the homeowners association, things are improving. New sand in all greenside bumkers is a big step. The greens are in pretty good shape. The fairways are OK except for the many, many large bare spots. The tees are pretty weedy and somewhat uneven. Fairway bunkers are mostly GUR. In another year, this could be a joy to behold. Let's hope so.
wait a couple of years.
Great layout. Finally got new ownership. Just got thru 1st year of a 5 year plan to get this course back to a respectable condition. Some improvements have been made, but they have a long wat to go. No scorecards was a shocker. They are easy to order and quick to receive. I will wait 2 years before I go back.
Course conditions improving
After a few years of serious neglect, the course conditions are much improved, with new sand in greenside bunkers and greens in good condition. Also, most areas are now free of weeds. Fairway bunkers are cleaned out now with no sand, There still are quite a few barren areas in fairways that need re-sodding, and the course was hard and dry, but all in all, the course is playable again. I was told by staff that the homeowner's association now manages the course and that the course is just completing its first of five years of renovations.
Great course and value!
1st time here and will be back! Fun course tricky layout good greens and good enough tee boxes. Was too busy hitting greens but green side bunkers looked good too;) water comes in to play on most holes, good high risk high reward course
Fairways and bunkers need some work but management is not only aware but is actually doing something about it!(unlike many other courses) wasn’t empty, but still played fast. Course partially plays through a local community of houses as well as what looks to be old farm land which I thought gave a touch of old school links golf . Either way great course and good variation of holes can’t wait to see this place transform from great to even better!
On the path to greatness
Love the course layout. Not the longest course but elevated greens well placed bunkers and water hazards makes for an interesting challenge. Greens and green side bunkers are amazing. Fairways are a little firm do to the lack of rain but I m hopeful my may the fairways will lush. Only downside is more of a senior citizen course and if you get behind some you are looking at 4.5 hours+
Has excellent potential but needs work
Fun layout with several water holes and reasonably well maintained traps. No scorecards available due to crazy Sonoma County covid rule (surfaces don't transmit!) . Probably should print one out from the course website before heading out to play. Greens are decent and there are a number of two tiered greens that make for some tricky putts depending on pin placement. Short grass creates big rolls on the fairway but THE BIGGEST PROBLEM this course suffers from is lots of hardpan spots especially along the edges which can send slightly off center shots tumbling into hazards. Many spots look like they haven't been seeded or watered in months. Otherwise, a decent value for the money but they certainly can and should do better..
Huge Grounds Improvement
Thoroughly enjoyed playing here today. Huge huge improvements with the maintenance & grounds. Hole like #4 & the long Par 3 at the Back 9 was unrecognizable. This Course is quite challenging and alot of fun. You can just imagine when this is restored back to its glory.
Second tome
The course was in better condition from the first time I played it. There were not as many wet areas as last time. Staff was friendly, snacks are over priced.
The course is rebuilding
This course used to be really nice but it has gone downhill in a big way. The fairways are awful. The fairway bunkers are unplayable. The green side bunkers have been redone and are great. The greens and tee boxes are playable and are in decent shape. The starter/safety rep explained the rebuilding process to me while I was waiting to go to the first tee. Under new management now, the course has a 5 year plan to return the course to its former glory. I wish them luck and will probably play this course in 5 years to find out if the plan worked.
Sorry, but things have changed
A course that used to be a very playable and enjoyable track has turned into an absolute dump. Fairways are cracked and bare, traps are awful, many unplayable lies from middle of fairways. This used to be such a fun little course. I was happy to score such a good deal for a weekend, now I know why. Wouldn't pay peewee golf rates to play here again.
Starter indicated that course has been bought / taken over by residents due to the level of disrepair it has fallen into but its going to be years before they can get this place turned around. What a waste, so sad to see what they've done to this course.
