Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Needs Time for Repairs
Course is in repair. Very friendly staff. Interesting course layout. They just need time to get the course back in shape. I can't recommend the course at this time, but I will return later in the year to review the conditions.
Wern
Like it even played the first time the view is very nice. I would like to play again soon.
Its the value
Where else will you get to play with a cart for $40 or less. The tee boxes are lumpy, fairways are bare in a lot of areas, but the greens are ok. Staff is friendly and helpful.
Great course & value!
Finished playing here today & I was super impressed. They are very Covid cautious and there’s even a “safety ambassador” making sure people are adhering to the distancing guidelines. I enjoyed this course as it was pretty challenging & but also fun. Great wildlife (turkeys, big rabbits, geese).
A couple holes were hard on the eyes and muddy. But for the price you really can’t complain. I would definitely play again!
Can’t wait to play again
I’ve been avoiding this course because of the reviews. However the reviews have been getting better so I went there and reviews are very accurate. Greens are great green side bunkers are awesome. Most fairways we’re good if you’re on the fairway. All fairways/rough by cart path were straight up hard pan dirt. Opposite side of fairway pretty rough conditions. Luckily I’m a shorter straight driver. All the tee boxes seem like they were just redone. The course layout is awesome lots of water features on the course some you have to carry to reach greens but not too much carry just enough to mess with your head. The fairway bunkers are pretty much ground under repair they are well-placed but for a shorter hitter like me they were out of play. They are in the first year of a five year plan to fix up the course. I’m looking forward to playing it again in 6 months or so to see the improvements. Biggest bummer it’s an hour and 15 from my house.
Heading in the right direction
It was explained to us that new owners are progressing through some substantial upgrades. Still too many hard dry spots, and drained water features. But the greens are kept and true, and the forgiveness the dry water features offered for this first timer on the course allowed for a better than deserved score! It'll be great to see this course take shape again.
Out for a day of golf.
Enjoyed playing at Rio Vista golf club. Lots of folks have personal carts so no cart shortage. Very nice staff and starter was so friendly, helpful & informative. You can tell that the starter wants everyone to have a fun enjoyable experience. Greens were kept up & fairways a few rough area & bare spots.
CourseCondition
Green is very good and fast . From nine fairway was dry and no grasses but back nine was quite nice !!
Course Reinvestment is Paying Off
Last time my friends and I played Rio Vista (Summer of 2019) the course conditions were clearly showing the signs of maintenance neglect. Since then the ownership and management has changed. Sand traps had new sand added. Greens were in above average condition. The rough was once again being tended to. This is clearly a course that was on track to be shut down however that situation has been turned around. Rio Vista Golf Club is regaining its shape and by next Spring (2021) it should be on par with most public courses in the East Bay area.
A warm wind free day
Rio Vista golf course is slowly getting in better shape. I like the location and the days have been absent of wind. The grounds people are working hard to fix up the course.
Checking out the course changes
The course is improving but has a long way to go. Too many dry hard spots on the fairways and the sand traps are horrible. The greens were the best thing going.
Friendly staff nice layout, course in poor condition
The overview reads very nice on this course the staff was great the amenities looked good however no real use of them due to covid restrictions
The course has a nice layout but was really in poor condition with bare patches every where and soggy muddy places as well the greens were in decent conditions and while the $40.00 green fee seems reasonable I've played $25.00 courses that were in better shape
Too bad as I think it has great potential
Thanks for playing and for your feedback. The course is under new ownership and management with major improvements underway. You can check out the Rio Vista insider for more details: https://www.playriovista.com/rio-vista-insider
