Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Still needs work -but OK
For $40.00, it was OK. The tee boxes were all recently aerated so they were all temp tee boxes.. The ground was very hard in many of the tee boxes - needed a hammer to place your tees. Greens were find, a little bumpy still. However, the staff was very nice and helpful. It would be nice to have score cards which were not available, yet. So, all in all, a good deal at $40.00. (using Golf Now). Actually, $36.00 plus Golf Now " convenience fee". Will know to book direct next time.
Course conditions Rio Vista
Played here 15 years ago at the time course was in great condition. Can’t say the same for this time.During check in was told they didn’t have scorecards ?? didn’t understand there reason.
Got to first tee to see that the tee box was in HORRIBLE condition.(see picture) most tee boxes looked like this. We were lucky to have our shots land on grass for the entire front nine. Back nine fairways are in better shape.
Bunkers are the worst I’ve seen during the pandemic ( see picture).
Don’t recommend this course.
Rio Vista Golf
My first round at Rio Vista. The back is in better shape than the front. Tough to find a good lie, even off the tee. It’s a decent layout but too much mud and not enough grass. I would play it again, but not my first choice.
One of my favorite place
Every time I play here (~2x a month) there are approvements to the course. The bunkers, the hazards, the fairways, the facility... The pace of play, the fairness of the women's teebox placement, reasonable cost, and the course layout are the reasons I keep coming back.
not advised
Staff welcomed us nicely. Made us aware of COVID restrictions. Tee times were spread apart. Still managed to be waiting for the group in front of us for our entire round. First tee box was dead grass, second tee box was dead. Hasn’t rained in months and yet this course was muddy everywhere. Greens were very spongy. Chipping around the greens meant walking through mud constantly. No definition between fairways and rough. Our group will not be returning.
A little wet
The course is soaked in most areas. Watering is good but theymay have poor drainage.
all bunkers are sodded over and out of play. Which is actually good, free drop
The bar forced me to order food together with beer. But I saw other customers with only drinks and no food..
Rio Vista
Terrible, the staff was incredibly friendly, but the course was in horrible shape. Overgrown, weeds, wet...and that is in the faitway!
Long Way to GO
We have played many times over the years; way back when the course used to be pristine and a treat to play. We also have played a number of times recently this year.
I know that they are in the midst of a 5 year renovation plan. However, the course conditions today are far worse than they were 1 month ago. They are letting the fairways go, as well as the areas just off of the fairways. So much so, that we lost approximately 10 balls just off of the fairway due to the extra non-maintained long grass. In addition, the fairways are muddy, or sometimes hard pack dirt.
And, to make matters worse, the greens were recently aerated, and we were not made aware until we got tot he first green.
I suggest waiting to play here sometime after the renovations come along.
Very disappointing
Had a 0710 tee time on Monday (Labor Day 2020). I arrived about 30 minutes before my tee time (like normal) and I must of interrupted a BS session from the three older men that worked there. I greeted the older gentleman with a good morning my tee time is at.............. and the only word he said was “you can insert your card now”, then he pointed to the carts and that was it. Not a big deal I’m not much of a social one anyways. At the first tee box we noticed no score cards in the carts, I went back for one and was told “the county would not let them hand cards out because of COVID-19, which is BS, I’ve played 3 other courses in the county. OK, now let’s get to the course, it was a swamp. Almost every hole had been overwatered for weeks. In places it smelled like septic and the mosquitos were unbearable. The Tee boxes were not mowed and probably 80% weeds to grass. Did I mention this was Labor Day weekend, you would think a holiday weekend you might try to impress??????? Maybe that’s just me!!
To top the day off, at the end of the round there was no signage to park the carts, so we parked them in a large asphalt parking area in front of the club house. Again an older good old boy (course employee) walked by and said “ THE CARTS GO OVER THEIR” that’s when I finally had enough and said “show me the F¥@k-n sign”
Sad, this us to be a great course.
We paid $44 including a cart, not bad. Today if they would have refunded half are money it still would not have been worth it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your feedback. It is important to us as we strive to meet each guest’s needs. We apologize if we did not meet your expectations, but it is through feedback like yours that we are able to determine how to improve. Our course conditions have and will continue to improve and we also have many exciting golf course improvements in the works.
cow pasture
have not played a course in this a condition in all my life. if they paid me to play the course would not play it, since it is not worth the drive. if they paid for driving me to the course might think about it but probably still would not play such a bad poorly maintained course. they should be ashamed to advertise this as a golf course. will never think twice about wanting to try or play this course . it was the biggest waste of a few dollars but mostly the time.
Thanks for playing, the course is under new ownership and management and while it is expected to take several years to fully restore the course, lots of improvements have been and continue to be made.
The greenside bunkers were just reopened after a complete renovation and the teeboxes were recently reseeded. Unfortunately we are not able to give out scorecards under the current Covid-19 county health order but the scorecard is available on our website playriovista.com
Again, thanks for playing and hope you'll consider giving us another try as the course continues to improve.
