Rio Vista Golf Club
About
The Golf Club at Rio Vista is situated at the heart of northern California. With a scenic spot near the Sacramento River Delta, the course is even named after its scenic river view. The river delta meets rolling hills on this tough providing a unique setting equipped with distinctive water features. The skillfully crafted water holes are the trademarks of the design. The design mimics the natural lines carved by the river delta. The fairways are wide open but lengthy and generous greens can also be quite challenging as well. Rio Vista is a golf course that has appeal for players of all skill levels from novices to pros, whether it's the scenery or the diverse layout. Be careful on windy days though, the open course can be especially brutal.

Over all course.
The course needs a lot of work for example sand traps are either a weed bed or they are as bare and hard as concrete. Fairways are barren and what grass is there is like a pasture style course. I'll have a hard time coming back.
Good layout
While it was a little rough around the edges, the layout is great. With new ownership taking over I'm optimistic they will make huge improvements to the condition of the course. Greens were good, tee boxes and fairways need some work and most of the bunkers are not playable. We will visit again this fall to check out the progress. People were great, we had a good time.
07-23-17 wait 2 months
fairways were in poor condition. Long grass not kept up,,,,,,,, dissipointed. We were told the course was sold and new owners would take over 08-2017. Let them get in and get it back in shape.
no crowds
There is usually wind at this course and it keeps people away, but it is normally in the late afternoon. Even though my start time was 12:23, the wind remained calm throughout most of the round (a few gusts aprox 10 to 15 MPH). The course is in excellent condition including the greens.
and the pace of play is great (3 hours with twosome).
Rio Vista
At one time this course used to be a gem but over the past 7-9 years the course condition has become a goat track. Tee boxes are munched, fairway is spotty at best and the sand traps are the worst I've ever seen. The greens however were very nice and pace of play was good. The course just got a new owner, so hopefully he has a deep pocket book. That being said at $29 plus the booking fee, I would play again. Also, for those who have never played here just a heads up there is no driving range or driving net to warm up. Hope this helps.
Something be desired...
Staff was friendly. Got us out early. Tee boxes in rough shape. Fairways in ok shape. Greens nice. Every sandtrap on the course overgrown. Looks like a declining golf course. Definitely left something to be desired.
Don't waste your day
Course is a great layout, but in poor condition , bar was open good cold beer, food sucked
Rio Vista GC, not like it was
Good deal from Golfnow, but course condition did not nake it such a good desl. Seversl tee bixes were neglected/bare to the soil, uneven. Lots of fairway areas were bare or dead grass. Bunkers had no sand, but instead was muddy or hard, crusty tops; should be marked GUR. Greens were the best part. Too bad, my nemory of this course from playing it multiple times was good...not anymore.
Bad shape
We were disappointed in the condition of the golf course. It has deteriorated big time from a year ago
Jury is still out
Not quite sure what was going on. It was MOthers day but could not even get a hot dog. The course was very dry in spots and some of the sand? traps were over grown with weeds
"A little rough around the edges" - Windy
looked like traps were either being filled in (removed) or all the sand was blown away and only weeds remained. Tee boxes were not properly watered or it looked like they were burned out by wrong chemicals.
Lots of loose grass in rough - not picked up...so much that they could have "baled" it - and used the money to mainain the course.
Needs work... but is playable. Greens were average condition. In Fairness - if the price was less than $30 and included cart...I would play again.
Disappointed
Course was not in very good shape. I have played here several times in the last three years and it has always been enjoyable. This place needs a lot of TLC.
Overall condition much improved.
The fairways are filling in - used to be lots of bald patches.
The bunkers look more like bomb craters than bunkers - they are in an incredibly bad condition.
No on course refreshment cart, snack bar not open.
On cart GPS no longer working.
Very good layout with a variety of challenges
Greens very good, average speed, fairways fair and improving, rough relatively unmaintained (a ball in the rough is probably lost), bunkers are horrible many are unmaintained GUR, the others have a thin layer of sand with clay underneath.
Course in bad shape.
Wish we had been told about the course condition. Grass was tall almost everywhere. Lost many balls on tall uncut rough. We would not have played if we knew this before hand. Also, didn't know that front greens were being aierated.
Nice layout
A friend told me to try this place said he had golfed there years ago. I was surprised when I arrived and was told there was no driving range. They had plugged the greens but did a terrible job sanding them. The front nine was like there grass mowers were broken, the rough was any where from 4 to 10 inches tall I'm not playing the US Open, The back nine was better but the greens still had punch marks where they did not sand properly sad because this could be a nice course
Worst Course in the Bay Area
This is an updated review as the response I received on this course was bogus and disingenuous The course is in poor, horrible shape due to poor maintenance. The fact of the weather being the cause of the poor maintenance apparently did not affect Rancho Solano, Paradise Valley, Brentwood , etc as claimed in the response. We know that Warrior is selling the course and there is no incentive to do anymore to work on the course. It's a shame as the course could be one of the primer tracks in the area, but bad management and lack of purpose have doomed the course to a candidate for and expanded housing track.
