Whitney Oaks Golf Club
About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

This is a challenging course
This course has many ravines running through the fairways. Making layups a necessary condition of play. Going for it has rewards for the long hitter
This course has improved since the last time you played it
To be honest, Whitney Oaks is not my favorite course in the Sacramento area simply because it takes a while to figure out which clubs to play on certain holes. For instance, on the 284 yard dogleg left there's a huge boulder in the middle of the fairway, and I use it as a target; yesterday I chose a six iron off the Tee and I was 74 yards from the green as a result. The last time I played the course I hit a five hybrid and it went through the fairway and out of bounds. Once you get to know the course, it is quite delightful, and the fairways are near perfect. Yesterday there was some sand on the greens, so it was difficult to putt. The only real problem I have with Whitney Oaks is that there are several blind shots, so you really can't track the ball.
typical john miller design
as with most of j miller's design more for the advanced player. many narrow chutes with trees and hills bordering tee shots and then many creefks to cross to get to the greens. manageable for good to better than average players. but for the average player could be troublesome. but great design and wish the aeration had taken faster. greens still sandy and slow with difficult putts.
Nice Oaks !
What an attractive golf course! Great greens, rolling and challenging but great shape. Target landing areas that are big enough to be playable for the average golfer. Wide range of t boxes make for good play for all levels. Moderate pace, say 4.5 hours as long as no tournament folks in front. Too far apart t boxes and hilly to effectively walk
The course was in great shape especially the greens . I played on a Sunday afternoon with my brother who was visiting from Arizona . We were able to get right on and he was really impressed with the condition and scenery on the course .
Heat wave hurting the course. Greens were slow of course. Very penalizing if you miss the fairways!
Solid value
A very nice course with a good design (the back might even be great if not for the somewhat silly 10th hole). A real test from the mid-back tees. Condition sometimes lets it down a bit, but for $40--50 that's to be expected. You'll have fun here if you're on your game.
Great Course!
Course is laid out beautifully. It was in good shape. Pace of play was perfect. Carts are the most comfortable I've ever used on a course.
Fun course with many challenges. Beautiful layout, Staff was very accommodating.
I always enjoy playing this course. There are plenty of nice layouts with challenging water hazards. Some nice elevation & fun par threes. For a par 71 course.
Beautiful course
This is a great layout with tricky greens and a lot of target golf. Wish I could play it again this week cause a little local knowledge goes a long way. Will definitely play again next trip north.
Superb staff; fairways and greens need improvement
Staff are very friendly, pleasant and helpful which alone makes the golf experience worthwhile. However, the fairways were uneven and patchy in places, and the fairways have not recovered from being punched (whenever that occurred.) This, however, seems to be the normal condition of the course as I played the course twice in 2016 and the fairways were exactly the same.
The greens also need some improvement as there were some dead/dying spots on some of the greens (seemed to be only a few greens like this, but those few seemed to always be near the pin placement), and the greens were a bit uneven and do not seem to have been rolled for a few days.
Very good challenge!
Some tight fairways mean you better shoot straight. Large undulating greens challenge your ability to read them. I will definitely go back!
Much improved, challenging, but fair
One of our favorites. Always want to score low but this course keeps you honest if not humbled.
