Whitney Oaks Golf Club
About
Whitney Oaks Golf Club in Rocklin sits just half an hour from Sacramento but the stunning landscape blanketed with thousands of live oaks feels much more secluded. In addition to the trees, massive granite outcroppings accent the course. It is both a visually stunning and formidable championship layout. The diverse topography is the focus, providing many challenges with the elevation changes and towering trees that line the narrow fairways. The rolling topography helped to determine the placement of the bunkers. Wetlands come into play throughout the golf course, also serving as home to numerous varieties of indigenous wildlife. The golf course finishes with a tough hole, a long par 5 that is flanked by wetlands on both the left and right. Whitney Oaks G.C. also has a practice facility with a 15-station driving range, a putting green, and pitching area.

Great improvement
Awesome hot deal on GolfNow, got to play Whitney Oaks which is in its best condition in years. Greens were rolling fast.
Challenge course
Lots of blind shots, it is good drive ahead before you take your second shot on blind spots, if you're not to good with putter the greens will kill you
Great Course
This is my favorite course in the greater Sacramento area. Fun and challenging elevation changees make this course unique in the area.
Resort Course or Casino Partner?
I do not know who got the more raw end of the stick between the course’s namesake and the casino that now owns it. It probably means little to either. Admittedly, this fuels this certain review, so there is a before and after comparison.
Rates were not necessarily affected by the change of hand; unfortunately it shows. Given that the casino is touting resort status by its acquisition, Whitney Oaks became a win-some lose-some course. Locals get a standard cart upgrade and resort package buyers are probably scratching their heads (or not if the golf package is “outstanding”). Here are the trade-offs:
While the addition of GPS-equipped carts are a welcome addition, nothing else of noteworthiness happened. Fairways and greens are comparable to any course in the price range, with the exception of a few more pock marks than their pre-2012 state. The driving range is lackluster, and small for the amount of business one may expect the course to have encountered under new ownership. The course has always seemed upper-class in terms of its challenge, while the natural beauty of foliage, wetland and granite outcroppings are worth overlooking the community-lined setting. (There must be an HOA rule for keeping your back yard to standard, but even before the casino purchase.)
Yes, resort goers, you will be bussed into a Rocklin, CA neighborhood to play. Due to the above, you either love the calm and quiet or liken it to every other resort course, with every casino commercial on-screen, between holes. At least you can order food from the clubhouse at 9 and 18. You will arive at the turn to walk upstairs to the bar, tell them what you ordered and spend a considerable amount of time for the crapshoot (pun intended) that is what you receive. No frilly toothpicks, here, and all of the hallmarks of a clubhouse that saw a rise in patronage, but no extra kitchen hires. It does not help that the cart computer “rarely sends the correct order.”
The casino had a chance to make a great golf course, exceptional. Much to the chagrin of pros and staff, perhaps, little money seems to be going into the course itself. Good for us locals, if only wanting for the casino to put a little more pride into the “resort” moniker. It is a step backward for a course that received new owners with the clout to do more and remain cost effective-ish. Then, your hotel is little more than a mile from our landfill!
An amazing course with excellent greens
The layout is great, nothing real basic and some incredible designed holes.I love courses like this that challenge you but course knowledge is a must here, your second round will be better for sure as a lot of holes I had no idea how to play them so went with safe and what I could see.Alot of water for such a hot area small creeks and ponds on a lot of holes so very scenic even a mayan ruin I beleive
Whitney Oaks
Very slow pace of play was inconvenient and made it difficult to find a rhythm with shots.
Very nice experience
Interesting and challenging layout, some narrow fairways, some wide, some lay up holes, some blind corners but overall very nice experience.
Challenging Course
If you like to play a challenging scenic golf course, this would be the course for you to play. The fairways are narrow and the greens as we were told were running around 10 and none were flat. Rattle Snakes were present on the course per the Marshall though we didn't see any. Nice course to challenge your golf skills.
The greens are ridiculously difficult
The course was very nice and groomed. The greens are reachable within regulation from the white tee box. I rate this course very low because the greens are the most difficult I have played in a long time. It took the fun out of the round. 3 puts are the norm. Only 3 puts were made between our foursome outside of 3 feet and those were 4 foot puts. I will not play there again.
Well worth the money
Challenging course with great views.. played on a Saturday at 12 for 37 dollars.. can’t beat that!!course was in great shape also
whitney oaks
course was challllenging, good shape, greens very nice
practice facility great very enjoyable ady
A great round
A realiy nice course but challenging. Would play it again.
Great Start to '18
The course said some fairways were being aerated. Turned out very few were. Greens were excellent. Fairways good. Overall, a very pleasant day!
The course is recovering from a bad winter. Paying half price through golfnow made better. Full retail price would not have been worth it.
The course layout is very challenging and requires your full attention at all times. Enjoyed the course. Perfect for practicing your concentration on your game.
