The Reserve at Orange Lake Resort
About
There are two 18-hole championship courses and two nine-hole courses at Orange Lake Resort & Country Club. The Reserve is the newer of the championship golf courses although technically it could be considered the older of the two. Originally designed in 1982 by Joe Lee, 16 years before the Arnold Palmer-designed Legends was added, the course was completely redesigned in 2005. New water features and more sand were added and seven holes were rerouted and redesigned. One hole that was made more challenging was the fifth hole. A long par 4 was transformed into a long par 3 that plays to almost 215 yards. In addition to the four golf courses, Orange Lake also boasts a lighted driving range and putting green as well as two chipping greens, one which features a sand bunker.

Strange way to start a round of golf
Be aware that this golf course is a none cash facility.
We were 4 Canadian golfers and none of our credit card works!
It was a problem for payment but we end it up be able to play golf.
We have been disappointed by the way the handle the situation for the payment problem and did not feel like customer was their first priority!
Golf course is a good challenge.
Condition were good for this time of the year.
First time
The conditions aren't that good but it was a decent place to play. Fairly easy from the white tees for a 16 handicapper.
Avoid like the plague
As an owner at Orange Lake I have played this course many times along with The Legends. For the past few years we have played off site for financial reasons. Better courses for a cheaper price. Today my brother-in-law and myself decided to play The Reserve.
What an absolute disgrace the condition of this course is now in. The course is in such a state of disrepair that either the ground staff should be dismissed or the course managers should be.
When this was a 3 course venue, Orange, Cypress and Lake, it was second to none. When they changed it to The Reserve and Cranes Bend they took all the character of the previous courses away.
This course is all about revenue for Orange Lake and course maintenance / management is non existent. Shame on you Orange Lake.
Fast greens
Overall condition very good greens hard fast and true pace of play good (4:15min) fairways are in relatively good condition for this time off year.
Don't Waste Your Time
The course conditions were not good. Grassless areas along all the fairways, and many defects in the greens although they rolled fairly fast. Look at other golf courses in the area which are in much better condition and with green fees that are 30% lower. Will not play this course again.
Fast greens, poor fairways and tee boxes. Mediocre service
Service: nobody present at bag drop. We were not allowed a twosome, although it wasn't busy at all. At return (it just started to rain) nobody at bag drop and to pick up cart. Unfriendly staff.
Course: not in very good condition and not very challenging. Fast greens. But tee boxes, fairways, bunkers nit in very good condition.
Conclusion: not going to play there again.
Overbooking.
I understand this is a busy time of year around here, but I am not here on a weeks vacation. This is not the first time in the last month I have encountered overbooking. Yesterday I had a tee time at 12:45 for 2 people. We pull up at 12:40 to the starter and he informs us that he just sent 3 different groups ahead of us in the last 5 mins. So we sit at the first tee box until 1:10 waiting to tee off. We finally get moving and it thins out some. We make the turn and everything gets congested. 5:15 we are just teeing up for Hole 16 when the rains roll in. We were aware of the weather late afternoon that day, pulled up and left. Not finishing cause of the weather isn't the issue, nor am looking for any refund. Every tee box we sat and waited for the 2 groups ahead of us played, one group on the green and the other on tee. This is do to over booking and slow play. No rangers were around telling groups to pick up the pace. At the end of the day, I will not be in any rush to play at this course. Unlike the groups ahead of us, I live here. And when all of the snow birds head north and all the vacations slow down, I am still a local who will not be rushing to this course when they are looking for business.
Reserve Course Good for the Price This Time Of YEAR!
The Legends Reserve Course (18 Holes) Good Price for This Time Of YEAR! We had windy conditions which made the course more difficult from the White Tees. The greens were Extremely Fast!!! Unfortunately the greens did not hold high approach shots like other courses in the area, maybe because of all the wind dried out the greens (10:51am start time).
Nice lay-out with poor conditions
The course conditions were quite bad when we played with apparently lack of maintenance in the fairways. The lay-out seems very good but becomes secondary when you hit a good shot in the middle of the fairway and get penalized by being on irregular (to be kind) spot.
The Reserve
Interesting layout but many blind shots and no course layout on scorecard or hole signs. Condition were only average at best compared to other local courses at this time.
Greens pretty good but tee boxes and fairways in tough shape. Need a course map which they don't have as can drive into unseen water areas. They told me pin position 2 but no pin location sheets so doesn't help. Glad we got green fees on reduced rate.
Orange Lake Reserve
I had played a different course at Orange Lake a few years ago. First time on the Reserve. Tee boxes, fairways and greens on most holes disappointing. Bunkers tough shape with very few rakes. Green speeds were very good but bare patches in many spots. Layout was very good and speed of play was tolerable. Good value as I found a "Hot Deal". Lots of play here as they have several courses.
Interesting Greens
Enjoyable course with good variety of holes. Greens stood out as they were quick, firm, and had some good slope to them. Fairways were generously wide and closely mowed. Make sure to take water with you though as I only saw one water cooler other than at the turn. The bev cart came by once. There also are no bathrooms, except at the turn. My only other negative is that there is nowhere on the card or the tees that shows a hole diagram. More than once our group drove into hazard. Seems like it would be an easy fix and quite important given that many tourists play this course for the first time.
