The Reserve at Orange Lake Resort
About
There are two 18-hole championship courses and two nine-hole courses at Orange Lake Resort & Country Club. The Reserve is the newer of the championship golf courses although technically it could be considered the older of the two. Originally designed in 1982 by Joe Lee, 16 years before the Arnold Palmer-designed Legends was added, the course was completely redesigned in 2005. New water features and more sand were added and seven holes were rerouted and redesigned. One hole that was made more challenging was the fifth hole. A long par 4 was transformed into a long par 3 that plays to almost 215 yards. In addition to the four golf courses, Orange Lake also boasts a lighted driving range and putting green as well as two chipping greens, one which features a sand bunker.

some challenging holes in the wind
The course layout provides some challenging holes especially in a strong wind.
The course does need some tlc, especially the tee boxes and the facilities need to be maintained better,no sand on the cart, no towels in the bathroom.
horrible conditions
First off... I arrived about an hour before my tee time and told the staff manning the carts that my father would be joining shortly. I went to check into the Pro Shop and came back to find someone else's bag on my cart. No problem, I just explained to them that I was waiting for my father and they should find another cart. Went to the restroom and came back to find another bag on my cart. This time the cart attendant told me that I would need to pair up with this gentlemen because they were out of carts. I reminded them for the third time that I was waiting for my dad to arrive. He was adamant about the pairing until I mentioned that I didn't drive half way across the state of FL to sit in a cart with a stranger while my dad was riding in another cart. The staff was clueless. Even the drink cart girl drove the wrong way on the course (going from 1 to 18 instead of driving back from 18 to 1). She drove up behind us on 4 different tee boxes and affected a few shots in our group. As far as the course conditions... they were horrible. The only thing is mediocre shape were the greens. The bunkers didn't have sand or they haven't been raked in weeks. The fairways didn't have grass. The rough didn't have grass. Bare patches of mud and dirt everywhere. As a single digit hcp this course was an absolute waste of time and money. I should have just met my dad at a cigar bar to watch golf on TV. Conditions and staff made the experience completely unenjoyable.
Great course for bird watching
Tight course that winds around condos on a resort. Course was in OK shape, the back 9 was in better condition.
Need a lot of love and repair
It is not the first time that i played this course i am a owner there for 10 years it is the fist years that the course is so in bad shape we need to move the ball in the fairways because it missing a lot of grass around the green we cannot chip because lots of hole did not have grass it is a chance we bought it as a hot deal but if a was paying the regular price around 79.00 it is sure that a will ask for a refund. Very desapointed
Sorry english is not my first language
OK, but some bad spots
I played this course w/wife riding and it was OK, but windy and muddy on course. The greens were very fast. My big gripe was no cart girl and NO alcohol in clubhouse. The cart guys were very unfriendly-NOT GOOD START! Starter was nice and from Green Bay!
OJ course but not $50 worth and will not return.
Pace of play
We were a 4 ball following a 4 ball, they lost 3 holes on the group in front of them we waited on every shot. We did not see a ranger.
Pace of plsy
We were a 4 ball, in front was a 4 ball who lost 3 holes and did not let us though why was there no Marshall.
Good for money, would pay more elsewhere
Visiting with family, booked ahead of time and called about availability of rental clubs, "no problem". We had to share 2 sets of clubs among 3 players, only 1 driver. No gloves available for purchase in "clubhouse".
Staff were friendly, pace of play very good (4 hours, and we played a few holes pretty rough). Variation in layout was nice, course was in decent shape (some greens were patchy but it could be time of year). Price was very good, but I'd be willing to pay a little more at other courses. A few holes were very tight so hit them straight, unforgiving if you don't.
Had one guy at a house watching us through binoculars while teeing off, that was annoying, he ducked back in as we drive up.
The Reserve / Orange Lake
Well worth the afternoon rate my wife and I paid / course in fair condition
Long and tight in holes
Found the course long in some holes and tight
Most of the greens still have the pitch marks that some players never attempted to repair thus having a impact on the greens condition for future players
And very difficult for the green staff to keep on top of.
Good Course--Good Value for the Money
A well maintained course. Greens are good, a little bit on the slower side. Staff was extremely friendly. Condos are little close to the course at some points.
Really not good.
The staff is always friendly although there was no starter and on a weekend, so players are left to decide when and how to start playing, not a good thing. The thing that really surprised me as someone who has played here several times (not in over a year though) are the course conditions. In fact, I don't know what surprises me more, the condition or the recent positive reviews... The fairways especially on the front 9 are terrible and the first 4 greens awful. And even when it does improve on the back, it is still mediocre at best. Now, it has always had a "natural" feel to it meaning it was always a bit rough and of course surrounded my nature areas which is nice and adds to the difficulty, but now it is just bad.
typical resort
This is typical resort. You have a very good course then you have the little brother course that costs less and is not very well taken care of, still I have to say I play it every year and for some reason I really enjoy it. Course needs more care and greens need work. Golfnow has some great deals for this course, it's a good value if your looking for a really good hot deal.
Quickest finish to a round here in a while
I have played here a number of times and the course is in good shape. always enjoy the friendly staff.
I was in a twosome and we finished playing in 3 hours.
Quickest finish to a round here but I'm afraid it won't happen often. Got a great rate from golfnow.
Couple Friendly!
Great value! From arrival to the last putt, a very nice experience. Lots of challenge and very pretty too.
Ridiculously slow
Not only was the junior tournament finishing up ahead of us making the pace of play slow, but the course ranger brought a player ahead of us on whole 8 or 9 and paired him up with a foursome. We had only 3 in our group yet he put this individual ahead of us making a five-some. A five-some? How ridiculous. We go to the 10th tee and waited for the five-some to hit their second shots. once they did, the beverage cart girl drove her cart into the middle of the fairway and spent 5 minutes or so taking care of their orders while we continued to wait to tee off. She didn't wait green side or at the next tee. Just drove right out in the middle of the fairway while we waited. The 5-some was gruesomely slow, especially on the par 3's. I live 2 miles from the course and will think long and hard about playing this course again. The conditions for the course were average at best and there was no help on the scorecard or at the tees to tell you what the hole layout was. Fortunately, we were paired with someone that plays there often whole could give us clues about the hole. Spend your money elsewhere in the area.
Great course for the price
I'm from DC, first time plying in FL. Afirtable price for a great course, not to mention 84d blue sky in December.
Florida golf
Fairways were soft. Greens were on the slow side. Great value.would play again
