Lakewood Golf Club

About
Lakewood Golf Club is one of the South's premier golf destinations. Opened in 1961, the course has hosted the New Orleans Open 26 times over the years. Beautiful cypress and oak trees frame the golf course, providing a beautiful backdrop throughout the round. When Ron Garl renovated the course in 2009 he managed to obtain its original character while modernizing the layout with new fairways, tee boxes, and greens. Strategically placed bunkers and fairway contouring were also added. Lakewood Golf Club is owned by the New Orleans Firefighters Pension Fund and as a tribute to New Orleans Firefighters, the final hole was redesigned and renamed "Fire in the Hole." Called so because the traps are arranged in a set of flames against a backdrop of red sand. You won't find anything like the bunkering on this par 4.

Fun course with fast greens
Fun little course that is well kept. Minimal hazards to worry about but small fairways. Greens played lightning fast but were a bit bumpy. Watch out for gators.
Nice course
Summer is coming, green grass is back! Green we’re rolling. Hole 17 is a treat! Had a enjoyable round
Always great!
Between the great staff and practice facilities lies a great course with 5 tee boxes. This course is always in good shape and the greens are consistent! Top 3 course in NOLA
Best in LA
First time in New Orleans and I’ve been playing a lot all over. This course blew my socks off. Great staff, fantastic layout, and even with a massive storm, course is in great shape. One of my top 5 favorite courses I’ve ever played.
4 weeks after Hurricane IDA
So I do write this review knowing that full staff wasn't ideally possible 4 weeks after the hurricane. So we played on a Saturday. No cart girls(not sure if normal). No water in any of the coolers on any tee boxes. Both of our cart batteries died. Then died a third time on one of our new carts. Range was closed for basically no reason. That all being said the course was impressively pure. Will definitely comeback when hopefully staffing is a bit better. Fairways were nice but narrow. Greens had some crazy breaks.
Good challenge
Good challenge because it allows you to grip it and rip it!!! But you also need to play position golf at times. Fun all the away around.
Slow but Sure
The pace of play was extremely too slow.
I got the email on doing a review and we were on hole 13.
This course is always a sure bet when you can't go anywhere else because of conditions.
Great course
New grass on the greens is starting to sprout
Still good condition
And great staff
Positive
the greens are spotty
Course is in good shape for this time of year. Always play decent at Lakewood because it is pretty wide open and very few OB's so confidence is very high when hitting driver.

Normal
Not ‘a big golf course, note a small. easy to play.
NOLA’s player course.
Great course! The course is in great shape and the greens are fast. The pace is also very good. The staff is very professional. I will play this course again. I rank it as of the best in the area.
I don't want to let people in on this secret.
This is the best course for the money in the Greater New Orleans area. The staff is amazing. The layout is fun and can be difficult. It is always in good shape and the almost island [over 240° of the circle hole 17 is sweet. It is really worth a try. A million times better than the new City Park
