Lakewood Golf Club

This course was a staple of quality golf in New Orleans for many years when it first re-opened a few decades ago. Now it simply needs some more care from the staff. The greens are mostly unputtable and were like that for a good part of last season as well. There are municipal courses in the city with much better greens and that is just a sign that the course is not doing enough to maintain them.

Very playable, some cool holes. Greens rolled well but had small weeds, didn’t affect too much. Friendly staff. Pace of play behind a 5 and 4some was terrible

Ok course but not sure worth $70+ dollars on a bad weather day. Course was fun to play and staff was super nice .. cart

Not sure it’s worth $70 bucks but was fun to play. Was in from out of town and wasted to stay close to downtown.. greens & tee boxes could be better for the money.

Staff was great, beverages and food selection for a round was great. The driving range, chipping greens, and putting greens are in awful shape. The fairways were manageable but the greens need a lot of work. Weeds growing in the greens so putts are hopping all over the place.

If they would take and put some time and money the course could be really nice.

This course is only worth $10 round.

Tee boxes are garbage.

They really need to fix their irrigation system because man was that dry and inconsistent

Typically Lakewood is in great shape with regard to tee boxes, fairways and greens. The tee boxes had some bare, uneven spots. The fairways were a little bare but I attribute this to a lack of rain this year. The greens were fast, which I like, but had several sandy spots.

The staff is always great and I really like the layout.

Did a golf trip to New Orleans. Learned on the way that the south has been experiencing a drought… and it showed. To be fair I am not going to rate or comment on the course conditions. Instead, given the rest of my experience I am choosing to assume that with some rain the course conditions would be fantastic, and I do look forward to returning one day to find out.

Things I Liked

- Really great customer service. The gentleman checking me in was very helpful in getting me ready to get out and golf.

- The greens were in good shape and rolled very fair.

- Holes #17 and #18 are demanding. Everything before that I would consider to be golfer friendly.

- The fleur-de-lis and fire flame bunkers are unique.

Things I Did Not Like

- Non-resident rates. Though I would rather pay the course directly, that level of mark-up led to me retreat and purchase an online deal.

Thing Important to Me

- Very walkable. I wouldn’t take a cart to play this course.

- Cool branded ball marker.

- There were water coolers out on the course.

I was asked if I would recommend course to friends. I was disappointed in the greens. But I do understand because of the heat wave that’s going through New Orleans right now that they’re struggling like everyone else is greens. Fairways and bunkers were all in pretty good shape.
