Clipper/Galleon at Shipyard Golf Club
About
The Clipper/Galleon Course at Shipyard Golf Club, which combines two of the three nine-hole golf courses on the property, creates an exciting combination of long fairways and perilous hazards. Clipper/Galleon has a rating of 74, with a slope of 133 from the championship tees.
With plenty of sand and water hazards, Clipper may be the most difficult of the nines. Designed by George Cobb and built in 1970, Clipper requires a good long game and a soft touch around the greens.
Galleon, the original nine holes, meanders through large oak and tall pines. Accurate placement of approach shots into heavily guarded greens is necessary on this nine.

Love this track.
nice design, different shots required. Hilton Head courses have a tough time in March as it's just breaking out of a long cool spell, but they've done as good as possible.
Great value!
Always enjoy Shipyard, staff is super welcoming. Course was in excellent shape. Only concern was we were on 13th hole when a pretty severe thunderstorm hit suddenly and Shipyard has no lightning detection system. No alarm, we had to figure out for ourselves wether to continue or not( we didn’t ). I thought these were standard for all golf courses.
I’d like to add, even though it was fairly crowded, pace of play was good. Never waited on any hole.
3 different 9 hole course combinations, fair selection of challenging & fun holes, pro staff is good at keeping the course moving, very friendly & helpful staff.
Horrible Golfing Experience
I am not mad or disappointed. I am in shock. I played the Galleon and Clipper courses on 3/22/23 and they were in horrible condition. The Clipper course worse than the Galleon course which was in bad shape. I played with a member who was complaining how bad it was. The fairways were bare with very little grass on them. Some of the greens should have been closed because they looked like they were dying, especially the 11th green ion the Clipper course. The fringes around most of the greens were mostly dirt and you could not chip off them. Most of the tees had minimal grass on them. They do not even give the appearance that they are trying to maintain the course. I did not see one maintenance person anywhere on the grounds the day I played. It was a free for all on the course without a course Ranger anywhere in sight. A twosome was scheduled to start on the Brigantine course and said it was so backed up on the first hole they took it upon themselves to jump to the Clipper course without any regard to whom they might be jumping in front of. The starter for all 3 courses stays near the bag drop which does not allow for any coordination on any of the 3 courses first tees. I thank my stars that I waited until after 2 PM to play because I only wasted 90.00 instead of the 160.00 if I played before Noon..
One thing needed
I’m played 18 holes yesterday and not good me of the tee boxes had a ball washer. I could have used one on several occasions.
