Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold
About
If you come to Arizona to play desert golf, forget about Ocotillo. Ocotillo is a refreshing change of pace from most of the Valley's courses precisely because it isn't surrounded by desert.
The White Course is the most unique of the three. It has only one par 5, and the water is a factor on just five of the holes. But it also has the best hole on the property -- the 479-yard, par-4 ninth, which used to be an easy par 5 but is now a treacherous finishing touch.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.

Long way to go here...
This course has not recovered from the transition to new ownership/management. Great weather today, and pace of play was really good until the last 3 holes.
1) Fairways were not mowed tightly by any stretch of the imagination, like being in light rough on many holes. Not good when you are wondering if your shot from the fairway is going to be a flyer.
2) Tee boxes not watered well, most of the par 3 boxes would barely let you get a tee in the ground. On top of that, many of them were not mowed well either, lot of long grass.
3) Greens were quite slow, and a bit bumpy. Desperately in need of a good rolling and another notch down on the mower.
4) Outside staff barely acknowledged our existence. They are too concerned with moving carts around for some crazy reason. Guys in the shop were great, not sure why this translates so poorly to everything outside.
5) Started showed up on gold tee AFTER we all hit off 1st tee (too busy moving carts)
The place is just not well cared for these days, is understaffed, and really lacking on customer service. You guys need to figure it out and not let one of the better places to play in the east valley go to the dogs and you are well on your way. Not sure I want to come back and take a chance on this place again since this was just a repeat of a couple of months ago.
I attached a picture of the putting green from 3/24. How do you get to this point in March?
Wonderful course
Challenging course with water on every hole. Great condition. Will play again.
H2O in the Desert
Really fun and interesting course setup. Greens were a bit dry and hard, but they rolled fast and true. Considering all of the water they could have spared some for the grass. There is a lot of distance control via water - you’ll keep your driver in the bag for a lot of the day
Lots of Water. Lots of fun
Played the white and gold courses and had a blast. The water makes it challenging and interesting. It was a great day
Much improved
Have played a great deal at Ocotillo over the recent years and have seen the ups (Troon) and downs (pre sale of course). Very pleased with everything yesterday with only two exception. Tee boxes getting chopped up and the tee up areas are getting smaller. Plus on a few tee boxes the ground was so hard we literally could not get our tees into the ground far enough. Been playing golf for 50+ years, have never encountered this. That said, the fairways and greens are in great shape, bunkers getting a bit hard. Really friendly staff with a shout out to the marshals on the course and the beverage cart lady. Ocotillo is back.
One of the Best!
This is a spectacular golf course. It is in fabulous condition. It is one of the greenest courses in Phoenix with real and very plush rough.
You have problems
Someone needs to review the practice putting green
Worst I’ve ever seen it
I play your course at least 20 times a year. It is having problems
It seems to
Beautiful golf course
Bring extra balls. I was told that there was water on 23 of the 27 holes.
Look forward to playing there again now that I know more about the course. Where to go for it, where to lay up. Fairway layout and slopes.
Had a great time.
Course was in great shape and greens were very consistent
Chad
Great course for the money. Grass was in good shape, greens were true. Pace of play ran like a German clock. Definitely a play if you’re around Chandler.
Golf as it should be
Pleasant day, great facility, friendly staff, perfect pace of play, nice layout. Water on every hole but not always in play unless you hit some terrible shots. Course was crowded but never slow. Well managed. Some tee's needed a little TLC, sand traps were inconsistent...but the fairways and greens were well manicured. All in all...an exceptional daily use course. We were in for Spring Training and would absolutely play it again.
Playing tough with deeper rough
The recent rains mean the rough is thicker than usual on some holes.
Ponds are very full.
Greens are running true, but the tee boxes need some grass and because the markers were close together, you couldn’t always get a flat lie.
SURF & TURF
Or should I say surf & sand. Lots of both. Everyone loses balls in the many water holes. A beautiful course with varied layouts. Great scenery, nice homes and ducks gone wild! A challenging course for anyone. Every shot becomes more important than the last one. Worth the trip and greens fees.
