Ocotillo Golf Club - Gold/Blue
About
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.
Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Way over priced
The greens were more sand than grass and were in horrible shape. I can’t believe they charged $170 for course. The last time I played it, several years ago, it was in great shape. Not sure what happened but I don’t recommend playing here.
Greens Slope and Lotsa Water
Always make a trip to this course when in Phoenix/Chandler area. Very friendly staff from bag drop, to Pro Shop, and the restaurant, with great service. Pricy when compared to being accustomed to Midwest golf courses, but competitive with all Arizona courses. The greens felt a little like they were going through some kind of seasonal transition change and were a little bumby and slow. But, with the slope of many of the greens, this course would be extremely challenging if the greens become smoother and fast. It's one of those places that you need to play a few times to figure out your targets, and memorize distances to water...because water is in play on several holes. The Carts do not have GPS. This was very disappointing for a Club of this caliber of golf to blow-off what should be a standard in Carts. Have your own GPS watch to make all I've described about this course easier to play, because you really need to know what is ahead of you. Practice range was mats only and even when stepping in front of the mats a few feet to hit a few tee balls, it was like standing in a sand trap - no grass. All said, Ocotillo is a must play with beautiful homes, Palm trees, and no desert cactus rocky waste areas like 80% of AZ courses offer.
Thank you for making Ocotillo Golf Club part of your trips to the Phoenix/Chandler area, we appreciate the continued support. It’s great to hear our team across bag drop, the Golf Shop, and the restaurant took good care of you and that you enjoy the layout and overall setting.
We appreciate the honest feedback on course conditions, GPS availability, and the practice facilities. Seasonal transitions can impact green speeds and smoothness, and your comments are helpful as we continue to improve.
Thanks again for the detailed review, we hope to welcome you back again soon.
Annoying
The course itself was in pretty good condition and a nice layout. Greens were in average condition, but would have expected better for $180 greens fee. I played from the tips and it was plenty challenging. Would have definitely played again, but the rangers on the course completely ruined the experience for me. I’m a single digit handicap and can play 18 by myself walking in like 2.5 hours. However, I played as a single and got put with a guy who brought out two of his clients. They were all below average golfers so we were playing a bit on the slower side, about a 4.5 hour pace. After a rough hole, the group ahead of us got about a hole ahead and they stayed there the entire rest of the round. The group behind us was an entire hole back from hole 2 on. So, literally no one in front of us or pushing us from behind the entire day. HOWEVER, the two rangers on the course thought it was important to keep up pace of play and hovered over us. They stopped to give us the pace of play talk 6 different times in the first 13 holes. The second to last time we were told if we didn’t catch the group in front of us, they were going to force us to skip the next par three. In my 30+ years of playing golf I’ve never experienced this, but my understanding from the guys I was playing with this is a regular occurrence. I get that nobody wants to play 6 hour rounds, but it’s crazy to me that 4.5 hours is completely unacceptable. If that’s the case, they need to stop letting 30 handicap players on the course. If you’re going to take their money and let them play, there is no way they’re playing in 4 hours. So bottom line…If you want to go enjoy a round with buddies and can’t play in under 4 hours, don’t play here. There are so many other options. If you are a single, don’t go at all. You’re just going to get annoyed by a few rangers being the pace of play police, when you have zero control over the people you’re playing with.
Thank you for your feedback—we’re glad you enjoyed the course layout and conditions. During peak season, maintaining pace of play is essential to keep rounds flowing for all guests, but we apologize that the repeated interruptions impacted your experience. We’ll be addressing this with our team to ensure a better balance moving forward.
Not Worth the money
Course was just ok .Rangers did not speed up play until the 14 th hole. Five hour round in sweltering heat.
Course is a shadow of what it used to be
Thanks for your feedback—we’re sorry your round didn’t meet expectations. A five-hour pace, especially in the heat, isn’t the experience we aim to provide, and we’ll be addressing ranger coverage and pace-of-play management with our team. We also appreciate your comments on course conditions and are actively working on improvements. We hope you’ll give us another chance to deliver a better experience.
Good course, fair value
Course was in good shape. Fairways and greens were nice and true to readings. Some blind tee shots that rewarded good shots with ball in water hazards. Best for a first timer to get some advice prior to playing a round. Overall a good experience!
Glad you enjoyed the course! It sounds like the conditions really held up well, especially with true greens and solid fairways—that always makes a round more enjoyable. Those blind tee shots can definitely be tricky, but it’s great when good shots are rewarded (even if there’s a little risk involved with the water). Good tip for first-timers too—getting some local advice can make a big difference out there. Overall, sounds like a fun and worthwhile round!
Value is bad as greens are poor.
Greens were sparse with grass, dried out in spots, very slow and very rough. Will never play there again.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear the greens did not meet your expectations. They were recently verti-cut as part of our maintenance program to promote long-term health, but we understand conditions may have impacted your experience. We appreciate your comments and hope you’ll consider giving us another try in the future.
Greens
Greens were in TERRIBLE SHAPE. Way over priced also lots of duck and goose crap on course, not healthy. I was going to ask for a discount.
Thank you for your review. We apologize that the greens and overall conditions didn’t meet your expectations. The greens were recently verti-cut to support their long-term health, but we understand that can impact play in the short term. We’re also actively addressing the presence of geese and ducks on the course. We appreciate your feedback and hope to provide you with a much improved experience on your next visit.
Greens
The greens were terrible and their was lots of of goose and duck crap .everywhe. I had to wash off my golf shoes after round, not a healthy environment. Way over priced for the conditions. Should of asked for a refund.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience with the greens and course conditions. Our greens were recently verti-cut as part of an important maintenance process to keep them healthy, but we understand they may not have been at their best during your round. We also apologize for the issues with geese and ducks on the course. Your comments are appreciated, and we hope you’ll give us another opportunity to provide a better experience in the future.
u000007592007, thank you for your 4-star rating of Ocotillo Golf Club! We’re glad you enjoyed your visit and look forward to welcoming you back for another great round soon.
Ocotillo golf
Nice course, designed for experienced golfers as much water comes into play. Sky course is beautiful!! Recommend if your 14 handicap or less. Not a beginner track.
Thank you for the review and recommendation. We’re glad you enjoyed the Sky course and the overall experience at Ocotillo Golf Club. The water and layout definitely create a fun challenge, and we appreciate you sharing your perspective. Hope to see you back out again soon.
Bring extra balls
That's what at least three people told me before I even reached the 1st tee. This is a 27-hole course where a person is assigned two of three 9-hole courses. They have changed the names from colors (blue, gold, white) to names such as Oasis. This is important for those of you that have the old names on your GPS device. Each of the courses have water on the majority of the links, some of which invade or separate the link from the green. In other words, a water hazard is in play for about 80% of the links. Some of the fairways lean towards the water, making a fair shot into an automatic drop. The challenge is to be precise and plan for layups. Otherwise, the course is in great shape with crisp fairways and undulating but speedy greens. There are a few sand bunkers, but they are small and far more isolated than the water. I played on a Thursday afternoon, but the pace of play was speedier than I other courses. It's a good course for the money, but challenging, and I did lose almost 3 times as many balls as I would on other courses as there was virtually no way to regain a ball from the rough (i.e. water). The wind didn't help matters either as it seemed like the two conspired to make sure my shots were unrecoverable. They have a very nice clubhouse and restaurant with an outdoor eating area that's reflective of the community, though I didn't spend much time there. I would play again.
Thank you for the thoughtful review and for sharing your experience. We’re glad you enjoyed the course conditions, pace of play, and clubhouse at Ocotillo Golf Club. The water and layout certainly make for a challenging round, especially when the wind picks up. We appreciate you coming out to play and hope to see you back again soon.
Good....could be better
Avid golfer and smooth greens connoisseur.
That being said, the amount of pitch marks around these holes has to be somewhere between battle field world war II and current Iran terrain conditions. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, FIX YOUR BALL MARKS. There's nothing quite like fixing 7 or more ball marks before over your four foot putt.
Love the layouts, strategically placed hazards...etc. The bunkers however could use some love. Having a ball stick in the top faces of the bunkers instead of properly rolling down...on multiple occasions didn't help my or my playing partners scores.
Finally, when there are customers sitting on the patio with empty drinks and more people looking for refreshments at the end of the round....it's time to stay open past 5 pm here boys.
Love the layout, conditions are always good for the amount of play this time of year, but a few touch-ups around the greens/bunkers and some later restaurant hours would make this a 4 or 5 star review.
Thank you for the feedback and for the kind words about the layout at Ocotillo Golf Club. We appreciate you pointing out the pitch marks and bunker conditions—those are important details and we’ll continue working with our team and players to improve them. We’ll also take your note about patio hours into consideration. Hope to see you back out on the course soon.
Fun but spends
Had a great time but for the money, I will play a cheaper course
Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad you had a great time on the course. We understand pricing is an important factor and appreciate your perspective. We hope to see you back for another round when the timing is right.
Thank you for the great review and for choosing Ocotillo Golf Club. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and hope to see you again soon.
Lots of wait time at the tee box. Your ranger was rude and unseen the last 9 holes.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about the long wait times and your experience with our ranger—this is not the level of service we aim to provide. Your comments will be shared with our team as we work to improve pace of play and staff interactions. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.
Beautiful layout, with a lot of water. Fair layout. Rewarded for accuracy.
Thank you for your review! We’re glad you enjoyed the layout and the challenge the course provides. It’s great to hear that accuracy was rewarded—hope to see you back for another round soon!
Thank you for the great review and for choosing Ocotillo Golf Club. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and hope to see you again soon.
What happened to Ocotillo?
I used to live in this neighborhood and played Ocotillo weekly and always looked forward to taking out of town guests to this East Valley gem. Not anymore. The course conditions were horrible. The greens were in terrible shape and the fairways were even worse. We paid $150 pp and it is in Prime season so I expected the conditions to be at least average. I don’t expect Troon treatment from the Arcis team but you guys can do better!
Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry to hear that the course conditions did not meet your expectations, especially during peak season. Your detailed feedback about the greens and fairways is important, and we’ll be sharing it with our maintenance team to help improve conditions for all guests. We appreciate your loyalty in the past and hope to have the opportunity to provide a better experience in the future.
