Ocotillo Golf Club - Gold/Blue
About
The Ocotillo Golf Resort sits on 185 acres and features lush contoured fairways that flow gently amid patches of mature trees, vibrant flower beds, pretty waterfalls and numerous lakes.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.
Two holes stand out on the Gold: No. 5 is a 212-yard par 3 with water running down the entire left side; and No. 9 is a 468-yard par 4 with a carry over water from the tee -- water that dissects the fairway about 50 yards short of the green and water left to the green. Par there is a great score.
Ocotillo's Blue Course is a watery grave; water comes into play on eight of the nine holes. It's not overly long but there's so much water the length becomes irrelevant. The best hole may be No. 1, a 590-yard par 5. Big hitters are faced with the classic risk-reward: Do they lay-up on their second shot or try to fly a tributary that splits the fairway about 50 yards short of the green?

Fantastic As Usual
Always a pleasure playing such a consistent course. We always put Ocotillo on our agenda when we visit Phoenix.
Ocotillo YES
It was a very good course in very good condition, but be warned most holes have water. Of course this adds to the beauty.
What a Great Course!
Beautiful course; lots of water to keep the challenge up but also manageable for less skilled golfers. Conditions excellent for overseeding season. Blue course was excellent; White course was fairly good but a little behind the blue; we did not play the Gold 9.
We will definitely come back here - and the price was also terrific! Don’t miss this course when visiting Scottsdale-Phoenix area.
very nice course
The course is very nice and in great shape. Pace of play was a little slow(4 1/2 hours). Also we were told it was 90 degree rule, but there were a number of holes that were roped off and we had to walk from the cart path.
Course to be played
We played the blue/white course.Blue is in great shape and the white is moderate.
Problem is that a group of 8 players came out of nowhere and were about to take place beetween my two foursome.Where were the starter to control this traffic?disappointing
One my Favorite
Ocotillo used to be one of my favorite courses. Seemed to have taken a step back last few years. I played in a summer league for a a bunch of summers. . Watched it slowly trend downward. With the Mickelson group taking over and the overseed complete, it seems to be regaining some of its luster. This is the second week in a row I’ve been out. All three courses are now open with the white being the last and cart path only. My only negative was over the summer they shut down all three nines to do from what I understand was some irrigation and drainage overhaul. Wish they would have used that down time to fix some of the teeboxes. There’s a few that are crowned and almost impossible to get a good stance on your tee shot. But overall the course is in beautiful shape out of the overseed and well worth the $40
We were supposed to play the blue / gold but got stuck with blue / white because a large group of club rental players showed up late and backed up the course from the start.
The blue Course was great the white course, not so great - it just opened from overseeding and was a huge disappointment, but we knew that when we were given the option of a 5 hour round behind the hackers or a 4 hour round on the blue / white course combo.
We also missed the golf board rentals they had last year. They were fun.
Put this on your bucket list
I'm a local and usually take advantage of one of many summer golf passes (We Ko Pah, Troon, etc) and have played many really nice golf courses across Phoenix and Scottsdale. Ocotillo is one of those courses you want to play as the layout is challenging yet fair with water in-play on many of the 3 nine-hole courses (Blue, Gold, and White). The course was in perfect shape, the greens were rolling pure and the tee-boxes were nearly perfect. Put this course on your bucket list, you won't be disappointed.
1st timer
I’m from the east coast, and this reminds me of a Florida course, over seeded, slow greens ok conditions definitely worth $ 50
As usual, a great course.
Great "after overseed" conditions. Will only get better with time but in great condition already.
Blue lagoon
Played the Gold-White courses. I think there must be "blue lagoons" on over half the holes. Lateral hazards and forces carries everywhere. Loved the course design. Overseeding was in progress, cart path only on the Gold, but normal on the white. Enjoyed the perfect day and the fun round. I'll be back!
Overseeding
I really love this place. Staff is great. Layout is also great.
Today was a bit frustrating because the Gold nine had just reopened after overseeing. The grass was long. It was difficult to find balls in the fairway, almost impossible in the rough. The greens were slow and it was cart path only. I realize overseeding is a necessity, just wish I had known at the time I booked.
Dead and Scalped
Ocotillo is being reseeded, but they don’t tell you until after you pay. “You’ll be started on the blue course, which is a little dried out.” It was dead and burnt out. Prior warning would be nice. I would have gone somewhere else.
Ocotillo Blue-White
Even with the maintenance staff getting ready for overseed on the Blue 9, the course was in good shape. You need to play this course a few times to get familiar with the water hazards, as there are times when you don’t know where the water is and you can get penalized on a good shot.
Overall, nice course!
