Ocotillo Golf Club - White/Gold

About
If you come to Arizona to play desert golf, forget about Ocotillo. Ocotillo is a refreshing change of pace from most of the Valley's courses precisely because it isn't surrounded by desert.
The White Course is the most unique of the three. It has only one par 5, and the water is a factor on just five of the holes. But it also has the best hole on the property -- the 479-yard, par-4 ninth, which used to be an easy par 5 but is now a treacherous finishing touch.
The Gold nine is a devilish test and not just because water comes into play on six of the holes. The greens have a lot of slope in them and are difficult to read. And some pin placements are brutal; hit a downhill putt two feet past the
hole, and it might roll down into a swale and 30 feet by. Uphill putts, on the other hand, are extremely difficult to get to the hole, if for no other reason than Ocotillo's greens aren't as fast as some of the Valley's marquee desert courses.

HORRIBLE DO NOT PLAY
I had played this course in the past and it was always ok. A decent pace and different layout, but I will never return here again. I wouldn’t play this course if I got paid the greens fee to play there.
The bad - the course is in horrendous shape. The fairways are all brown where there even is grass, there are large dirt patches in the fairway. Where there is grass it is in a puddle of water.
The pace of play was OVER FIVE HOURS LONG. On top of the course being in garbage shape and there being 19 rangers, the pace was the worst I’ve ever experienced. I would have left had I not been there with other friends. 5 HOUR ROUNDS ON A TUESDAY.
The good - they have great service and many beverage carts.
What happened to Ocotillo?
The course is in crappy condition. I use to love this course. It was always in great condition when the Troon ran it. It is in poor condition for such a pretty course. Shame on the new owners. Need new green people. I won’t be bringing anyone soon to this course due to the condition the course is in. Please bring it back to it’s glory
Better in Feb/March
Grass not grown in very well. Wait to play until Feb/March. Problems with duck and goose droppings everywhere.
Goose and tree debris everywhere. Got to the course to find out it’s cart path only
Great Time
From Tee to green it was fantastic!
Excellent conditions, beautiful scenery on every hole.
Greens ran true
Amazing views, crappy employees
Great course and great views, but man the staff is incredible rude everytime I go. They don’t care about their customers at all. Only thing they care about is money. I get dirty looks all the time for not tipping the employees to clean my clubs. I don’t let them do it. It’s not my responsibility to pay them. The manager is very rude and has no respect for people, one time I was putting at hole on the practice green, and he told me to go somewhere else out of nowhere so I tell him plenty of other holes he could go to to teach his lesson to someone, communicating like a normal person and then he threatens to ban me from the course, not the first time he has acted like that to me or other golfers at the course. Really Wish the employees had more respect for everyone that comes to the course
Always a pleasure
It's always a pleasure to play Ocotillo, and today was no exception. I laugh when I read reviews this time of year for poor conditions - when most courses are closed for overseeding, Ocotillo rotates their 3 nines to keep the golf going. Sure the conditions aren't peak season standard, but I guess the complainers would rather not be playing at all. Played nice and quick on a Thurs morning. Actually played the same ball all 18 holes, which shows you can avoid the water if you're careful. Very warm welcome at the bag drop by the youngsters there, unfortunately almost never the same in the Pro Shop. Maybe that's why this 27 hole gem always struggles, the indifference consistently shown inside. But Sheila was great on the drink cart and the course is always fun to play, albeit probably a little pricier than the value suggests. I can't give it a 5-star rating because it just doesn't have that championship feel, but still worth playing from time to time.
Unfriendly staff
Course was just OK. Layout the same. Pace of play painfully slow. Golf Staff was unfriendly and unhelpful. People at the bar and on-course concession cart were nice. I will not be returning.
