Pueblo El Mirage Golf Club
About
The golf course at Pueblo El Mirage Golf Club is a challenging championship length course, but it is still suitable for all skill levels of golfer. The course features lush greens and long, rolling fairways. Lakes create water hazards that come into play on eleven holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers throughout the course. The signature hole is the par-4 15th hole, which calls for a start with a straight tee shot to a tight fairway and then a precise approach over water to a tiered green. The Pueblo El Mirage facility offers a driving range and putting green as well as a fully stocked pro shop.

The layout it great!!
I love this course for the value, friendly staff, and way underrated layout. This course has a little of everything and has some challenging holes. From the dogleg par 4 1st to the short par 3’s this is a fun course.

Needs water everywhere. Other players, whether they're new or not need to know some golf etiquette. Slow with no regard to people they're playing with and the people behind them. Very frustrating to take 5 hours to play.

Fuzzy's Finest
Love the layout of this Fuzzy Zellor designed course. Greens were not in the best condition but overall the course is very enjoyable to play.

Pleasant course
Arrived a bit early, yet as a single staff was able to get me out early. Course was very playable and scenic with many water features. Pace of play was nice and relaxing. Tee boxes and fairways could have distance markers for convenience.

It has its place...
On arrival it is not obvious where the golf shop is, it is behind the restaurant which is closed until late afternoon. Staff is friendly. Cart was fine. I played as a solo. Tees were being aerated. Fairways are somewhat discernable from the non-fairway areas. There are a few slopes and trees, water really does not come into play except on 9. The layout is amongst a mobile home park. Twice I had to ask for directions driving around the homes as the signage is so poor. Greens are slow and bumpy, but otherwise in ok shape. Water on the course at par 3's only, no beverage cart. There were very few players on the course so pace of play was not an issue, even as a single.

Waste of money
Course was mostly dry until you ran into the sprinklers. Sprinklers flooded the area. Maybe this was maintenance day. If it was, green fees should’ve been $10

Rough greens
Greens were just airated and hadn’t been cut in a few days. Like putting on carpet.

Worse than expected
Greens were grass thin with lots of sand so very heavy with idiosyncrasies.

Greens punched and sanded
We played the course a week before and it was enjoyable. Unfortunately, greens were punched and sanded. No mention of that when I made the reservation. I'm now going to eIt 2 weeks before playing again.

Don't play during tournaments or resident activities!
Booked a 2:00pm tee time for January 26, 2023 which would be adequate time to get 18 holes in before dark that time of year. However we were advised by Eric in the pro shop that there was a 30-45 minute delay but should be able to get in most if not all holes and gave us a $5 discount.
We teed off about 45 minutes late but the course was extremely backed up with at least two groups waiting at the early holes and at one time 5 groups waiting. When we teed off at Hole 3, we could see a large gathering, at least 15 carts parked and 30+ people parked on and adjacent to the Hole 7 tee box, all of them standing around taking a cocktail break and not teeing off/playing which further exacerbated the backup and delay. By the time we arrived at Hole 7 there were 6 groups ahead of us either playing or waiting their turn to tee off, none of whom appeared to be associated with the event in front of us. Come to find out later it was a resident ""tournament" (more like a party) that caused the delays.
I understand PEM is a private course designed primarily for residents, but is also open for public play. Had we known there was a huge "tournament" and the associated less-than-snails pace of play, we would have opted not to play and saved our money for another day or course. We payed for 18 holes and barely got 9 in - we spent more time waiting than actual play time.
It would seem prudent management would have either charged a 9 hole rate, or better yet, not even offer tee times on days when there are resident-related tournaments/parties on the golf course. While those involved with the event were having a great time, all of the other groups, including ours, experienced a miserable time,
If you plan to play this course, make sure there is no tournament or other resident-related event scheduled for your desired tee time - its not worth the aggravation!

Ever hear of weed killer?
Very poor conditions. Hard ground, plenty of bare spots. Weeds everywhere, clumps of grass to hit off of. Oh! and the greens were just aerated, which we were never told when we booked 2 days prior. The layout is nice, this could be a really nice course if only somebody told the ownership about weed killer and fertilizer. I don't think they have a clue what that is. To top things off, they turned the sprinklers on us in the middle of the day in the middle of our round!!! I got soaked along with my bag of clubs. We had one green where we had to run out and pick up our balls, it was getting water from all directions. I doubt I'll ever be back.
