SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
About
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club provides adventure amid natural terrain over 7,002 yards of par-71 golf. The golf course was laid out by the golf course architect Keith Foster, who hid the golf course in the ridges and canyons of the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, one of the last untouched bastions of the Southwestern United States.
The SunRidge Canyon Golf Club's signature hole is the 17th, and it is unique, giving golfers the option of shooting a 209-yard, par 3 over a box canyon today and then going for a 152-yard par 3 from an elevated tee tomorrow. Foster discovered the elevated-tee opportunity during a tour of the golf course while it was being constructed and added the Canyon set of tees right then. The vistas he knew golfers would get were enough to convince Foster to set up the second set of tees.
After a round of golf at the SunRidge Canyon Golf Club, head back to the Ridge Room, which attracts visitors and locals for the great view and Southwestern cuisine.

Beautiful hole! Photo submitted by danthomson on 09/25/2012
Great layout
I love the layout! However, the greens were stressed and dry. At the same time, they were very slow. Much slower than any other course I have played in Arizona to date on this trip. I will play again because of the layout. Bunkers were course sand and not well cared for.
Nice track,very playable
Really liked the course and would return soon. Good combo of holes that make it a interesting round.
Fun course!
Fun course, third time I have played it. Always something new when I play. Wicked 6 lives up to its name!
Best find yet
This course is awesome. I will play this course every time I am back in Scottsdale.
Nice course
Nice course layout, and in good shape, but for the price paid I was expected to be in better conditions. Some of the greens were bumpy, and different speed in every other hole.
Other than that, beautiful mountain views.
Overall solid facility
The golf course was in good shape. I read previous reviews about the condition of the greens. The greens were a little thin but it didn't affect the playability in any way, they rolled true. Teed off at 10:15 and played in 4 hours exactly. Real test of golf with great views. Food afterwards was excellent as well.
WAY COOL
I'm blessed. I've played golf all over the United States and abroad. Sunridge Canyon is not for the finicky, wanna-be pro golfer - it will crush your dreams. This public golf course presented a real challenge and the conditions were fantastic; the overall experience was even better. The "wicked six" (appropriately named) are no joke. You better have your powder dry and your hammer cocked, otherwise, really bad things can happen to your scorecard. Losing golf balls became a reality - no worries - replaced each lost ball with a shot of Crown (the beverage girl visited often). The real pain started after the golf. The superintendent put us on the indoor/outdoor computerized golf swing machine. He videotaped our swings and measured our club head speed, angle at impact, ball flight, and distance (carry/roll). My swing felt like Rory McElroy and looked like Charles Barkley - oh well. The day ended next to a fire pit with live music. The food and drinks were priced right...we saw several javelinas and coyotes to boot. It's a desert wonderland - perfect for the guys and gals I run with.
Winter Escape to SRC
Sunridge Canyon has been a winter golf destination from the brutal Ohio winters the past 3 years. From the moment you arrive at SunRidge Canyon, you know you made a great golf choice - the Staff at SRC is professional, friendly and knowledgable and go out of their way to make sure you enjoy a great golf experience. The course is a Top 5 on my personal list - a great combination of a challenging, but fair lay-out and second to none when it comes to the views offered by the surrounding mountains around the canyon. Finally, no need to be in a hurry after your round, the SRC patio is an inviting spot to complete your SRC experience - great menu options with spectacular views.
Overpriced for condition of course
This course has potential. However, for $195 rack rate, this course is way overpriced. The greens were spotty and had several dead spots. Fairways were not lush and the tee boxes were very long and not clean cut. The course could've been excellent but I am rather dissatisfied for the $150 I paid. This course was not worth that money because it was not in good shape. I will not play here again for this price. If I could get the course for $40-$50 I would consider it, but nothing more.
Mixed bag
The course was in very good shape, the pace of play was fine with no real hold ups, other than our own lost balls (many of those). This is quite an unforgiving track without a lot of bail out room. When we got to the half way house they had run out of food (1:44PM on Sunday). After the round they were duly apologetic for this and made it up to us, but it was quite unusual.
Great layout, poor conditions
The course was in tough shape from the beginning. There were plenty of dry areas and fewer green areas. The greens in particular were in bad shape. One green, 11 I believe, had standing water on the green at 11:30 in the morning on a bright sunny day. To add insult to injury, our cart GPS did not work and there was no starter to help. We never saw a ranger ALL day. I spoke with the beverage cart girl at the 7th hole and she said she would call it in right away. Someone finally came and restarted the system on the 15th hole. I really like the layout of this course, but it was not worth the $$$ we paid.
Pricey for the Conditions
Very nice set-up with gorgeous views. Condition of the greens were not consistent with the cost of the green fees. We paid $195/per person during peak season. I played several others in better condition for much less.
Expected better conditions
I was excited to play here but as other people said recently the greens were not in good shape. It looks like they used really fine grass clippings to fill in bare spots on several greens in an effort to make them look good. At this time of the year I expect the best conditions considering the prices courses charge but this isn't the case here.
The greens are terrible right now.
At least six of the greens had so little grass on them you were basically putting over hard wet dirt. Very difficult to stop the ball near the hole on downhill putts. I expected much better based on what they charge to play.
Arizona golf
Back in "99" We played this course along with Greyhawk & Troon, you couldn't tell the difference between the three. Now you can and what once was an immaculate course has now seen its better days. The greens were a big disappointment. They were like concrete and I usually love faster greens.... Just wasn't the same experience as the previous four times!
Beautiful course down and then back up a canyon
This is the third time playing this course on my annual Phoenix trip. It again was in great shape and I love the views of the canyon. There are a number of memorable holes and the par 3's are great, especially #17 over the canyon. The only negative is that some of the greens seemed to lack a little grass so the ball would not slow down at all going downhill. This should be on your list to play and it's definitely not overpriced if you get an internet deal.
Great bang for the buck
Greens were just rolled out morning we played so they were very fast. Beautiful scenery and challenging Par 4's for the ladies that don't drive over 200 yards. Wicked 6 (last 6 holes on back 9) is manageable...don't let it scare you and just stick to your game. Could get in lots of trouble if played too aggressively.
Nice but slow
This layout is impressive with many challenging holes. Great canyon views and terrain.greens were smooth but almost appeared to be mushy and some definitely had some turf issues but that was pretty much the only drawback. The course is very good but the pace of play the day we played was aggravating and no Marshall seen to move things along. 4:45 on a weekday is far too long. All that said, we will definitely be going back.
Beautiful Course but slow pace and hard greens
We were excited to play this course and the first few holes were especially dramatic and in good shape. We played the first 9 holes in 2 hours 5 minutes but the back side slowed to a halt with a final round of 4 hours 45 minutes. We didn't see a ranger helping the situation. Many of the greens were hard and didn't hold the approach shots well. We paid about $100 each on golf now hot deals but would expect the greens and pace of play to be better with this price range. The views are excellent and the fairways were in great shape.
