SunRidge Canyon Golf Club
About
SunRidge Canyon Golf Club provides adventure amid natural terrain over 7,002 yards of par-71 golf. The golf course was laid out by the golf course architect Keith Foster, who hid the golf course in the ridges and canyons of the foothills of the McDowell Mountains, one of the last untouched bastions of the Southwestern United States.
The SunRidge Canyon Golf Club's signature hole is the 17th, and it is unique, giving golfers the option of shooting a 209-yard, par 3 over a box canyon today and then going for a 152-yard par 3 from an elevated tee tomorrow. Foster discovered the elevated-tee opportunity during a tour of the golf course while it was being constructed and added the Canyon set of tees right then. The vistas he knew golfers would get were enough to convince Foster to set up the second set of tees.
After a round of golf at the SunRidge Canyon Golf Club, head back to the Ridge Room, which attracts visitors and locals for the great view and Southwestern cuisine.

if you are in the area you should plat this
well kept, challenging and beautiful course with some great views, nice club house and friendly staff. would highly recommend it.
True Test of Your Game
The course is beautiful and is very challenging. It will test every aspect of your game and expose all of your weaknesses. That said, what a great feeling when you make a "golf" shot or par a hole. Personally I played 14 of the 18 well but the other four chewed me up. Three of those four were on what they call "The Wicked Six". I recommend you play this course when on top of your game.
Desert Golf
This course is desert golf at it's finest. Tucked up in canyons of Fountain Hills it has 18 great holes. The natural terrain is spectacular. Every hole offers unique challenges and the final 6 holes (The Wicked Six) do not disappoint. The course was in excellent condition and definitely worthy of it's high rating.
Too difficult for anyone with handicap greater than 10
Overall, I feel the course was in good condition. A player must be able to keep ball in fairways or he/she will need plenty of golf balls. Speaking of balls, once you tee off, you won't be back to the club house so have all the balls you possibly need or you may run out. The cart gal said she used to carry them but not on the day I played. The folks at the club house didn't say anything about this. There were some long fairways that were roped off for what appeared to be no particular reason. You had to leave your cart and carry several clubs or your entire bag if you weren't sure where your ball was (bunker, rough, etc,). The final six holes (aptly named The Wicked Six) are especially difficult and , except one, are all uphill. The greens were dormant and appeared black at times but rolled pretty well. I probably wouldn't play this course again until my handicap was near single digit.
wicked six for a reason
tough track for intermediate to expert. wicked six is even tougher heading into the sun at 4 to dusk. good company, good course for right price and good weather. what more does a guy want.
New Years and SunRidge
This was a very interesting and challenging course layout. There were a lot of forced carries, narrow farways, small greens, uneven lies, etc. The fairways were in perfect shape, there were only a few spots where they were a little soft from the rain we had received the day before and morning of. The rough was completely dead though I guess that is not completely out of the ordinary for AZ, for the price I thought they would be in a little better shape. The greens played well, but looked odd, the grass wasn't the same shade of green as the fairways it's hard to describe. Worth your time, especially if you are looking for a challenge, for the price I would have expected the course to be in a little better shape though.
Desperately slow
I thought that SunRidge Canyon would be a nice birthday gift to myself. The pace was incredibly slow and it was hard to enjoy the round while waiting to hit on every shot. It is undoubtedly a nice run, but to stack the tee times so close together is criminal. The two people working in the pro shop were less than friendly when I asked if I could walk to the course. I would not play again nor would I recommend the course to anyone due to the experience I had.
This course has outstanding views, but...
As a first time player it was disappointing to not find my ball after what I expected to be a well placed tee shot. I shouldn't have to drop down to irons on the par 4/5's in order to keep the ball in play off the tee box...The kicks after landing always went off the course.. The greens were consistent and true for the most part..however, the plug from previous pin location was not replaced very well, always a depression to navigate through if it was on line with todays cup location. I will not play this course again.
Always a winner!!
This is the second time I played the course. The layout is a superb desert course. The wicked 6 finishing holes are a true test of golf . Will definitely be back.
beautiful
Enjoyed playing here. The last six holes are Wicked
Greens not overseeded
I was very pleased with the course layout and general conditions. It is an interesting and challenging track. My major disappointment was spending nearly $100 to play it and the greens were not overseeded with Rye for the winter. Instead it was dry Bermuda that was painted green. This is really unheard of in Arizona, even the munis oversead!
Great Views and Great Conditions
Sunridge Canyon is a great course that anyone visiting the Phoenix area should play. The front-nine is mostly downhill while the back-nine, especially the "wicked six" are uphill and leave great views from the greens.
The fairways were in great shape and the winter seed has really taken hold. The fairway rough is dormant Bermuda, which is my preferred rough for winter courses in AZ. The rough around the greens was lush winter seed.
Biggest tip for this course would be to keep it accurate off the tee. Many of the par fours are relatively short, but have very narrow fairways so a long iron or hybrid off the tee is the smart play for a long hitter.
Great Value on a challenging course
Great Value for a challenging course. Course was in very good condition and practice facilities very good. Nice scenery on a true desert course. Highly recommended for players of average ability and above.
Excellent course. Bring your A game!
Absolutely loved this course. It's very challenging but fair. Elevation changes, Small and winding fairways, tons of bunkers, wash areas on many holes, and relatively small greens which punish you if you miss them. Seriously, add an extra few strokes if you don't hit your approach shot on. The scenery is remarkable and the course is in immaculate condition. Greens were super fast so I had multiple three putts. I enjoyed my butt kicking so much I went back the very next day for more. This is just as nice as any of the major courses in the scottsdale area (and I've played many of them) but at a much nicer price. I highly recommend you play this course. Go ahead and book a tee time without guilt or worry. Bring your A game!
Love It, Love It, Love It
This is the second time we played the course. Husband is a single digit I'm a 24. We both look forward to playing the course. Just wish I could play the last hole a little better. Great views! Tell everyone to try the course. We feel that it is a course "not to miss" when in the area.
Sunridge Golf Course
Awesome golf course! Challenging. Important to play right tees for your skill level. Lots of canyons to clear. Hole 17 is a par 3 with about 175 yards carry to clear from middle tees. Beautiful lay out. I'll play again.
Bring your "A" game
The course is in great shape, the greens fast and true, the staff friendly and helpful. Lots of elevation changes, forced carries and ungroomed desert. The Wicked Six finishing holes are mostly uphill and against the prevailing wind. Not walker-friendly, but one of my favorite courses. The rack rate is pricey, but not as much as some comparable courses in Scottsdale, and well worth it with a golfnow hot deal.
Only 1 issue - and it was a big one
This is a good golf facility and the course has an interesting layout - worth the effort to go and play. The only criticism I had -- and this was shared by others on the day - was the sometimes farcical pin placements. It just was a pointless blight on what should have been a really good golf experience. Whoever was responsible needs to be re-assigned to less important duties - possibly washroom attendant. It's something clubs need to be mindful of -- do not put pins on the edges and close to ridges and false-fronts as was the case on the day I played. The key is to make it FUN not set the course up for a PGA tour event.
Don't think it is a walk over
A stunning course. Great holes. Well placed bunkers and other obstacles.
The first 5 holes are not all that difficult, giving you the impression you are going to play the round of your life, but as you get further in the round the level of difficulty increases with the notorious wicked 6 last holes putting you back your typical playing level
