Eagle Mountain Golf Club
About
Designed by Scott Miller, this course is located in the southeastern foothills of the McDowell Mountains and is an innovative departure from the “target” style courses constructed in the desert in the recent past. Its layout takes advantage of a variety of land features: rolling hills, ridgelines, lush valley and washes, with a backdrop of prominent mountain outcroppings. In many instances, long extended views into untouched desert landscapes and area landmarks, such as Camelback Mountain, will be afforded. It is a strategic design, which asks the player to make choices relative to skill level.

Great day at Eagle Mountain! Photo submitted by uOQDZ5699OQ on 09/26/2012
Good views and that's about it
Not being from AZ and not knowing too much about course maintenance schedules in this part of the country, I always use caution when commenting.
Here is what I witnessed. Painted fairways, beat up fairways, and other little things you don't expect from a golf course during peak season in AZ. The pictures do not match the ones posted on the website and the rough was browned-out, dead looking. The greens rolled well and true which was the only positive.
The course has great views and offers some challenging golf holes with the elevated tees shots and without any GPS on the carts, you have to navigate the old fashioned way with a yardage books and a laser if you have one. Long hitters can pull driver out on every hole.
#14 is one of the better/ challenging par 4's you will play. A good tee shot is required and your approach is quite daunting into an elevated green where plenty can go wrong if it not struck well.
Too many other courses in AZ to play to go back which is a test I think you need to pass if you want to be memorable in this state.
Fun Course in Great Shape
I always like to play Eagle Mountain when in Scottsdale. Course was in great shape, greens rolling pretty fast but fair. Layout is fun, with lots of mountain elevation changes and scenic tee shots. Views of the valley to the South are spectacular. If you haven't played here before, put it on your list. It's worth the trip. #18 is just awesome.
NOT worth the money right now
You're better off saving $90 and playing Desert Canyon which is in FAR BETTER shape. Eagle Mountain was a huge disappointment a couple of days ago. Played 36 for my birthday, morning at Desert Canyon for $85 and afternoon at Eagle Mountain for $175. Honestly, you'd think the rates would be flip flopped. I would have paid 175 at DC, no way would I have paid $85 for Eagle Mountain. Greens had dead spots, the rough was dead bermuda (and not a gentle dead yellow but a bright, unsightly yellow like something went wrong with the overseed before winter).. with a bunch of green patches of some natural grass (it looked hideous). The first fairway even had huge patches of sod put in, entire course just dry as a bone, greens hardly held anything they were so firm and dry... NOT WORTH $175... I did get to golf board for the first time though, that was fun. But really... go play Desert Canyon instead. I'm sorry Eagle Mountain, loved you... but I was so angry when I showed up to pay $175 for that garbage.
Great Day of Golf !
This golf club is one of my top 3 courses in Arizona ! After we’ve played here each time, my son and I are ready to return soon to golf another round. Great views, well maintained and great service from the golf staff. Great day of Golf !
Poor Shape
This course was in horrible shape compared to a lot of other courses. Was told at the pro shop that we were in for a treat, well if a treat means we would be playing on patched fairways with plenty of dirt areas and greens that were missing grass in a lot of areas then yes it was a treat. To charge $165.00 at this time of year and with the course in this shape is robbery, at $85 dollars it still may be too much! Save your money!
DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE
While this course features a unique layout and some scenic views, it is not at all worth paying anywhere over $80 for, let alone over $100, like we did. This pictures shown do not provide an honest look of the course, it is BEAT UP, and POORLY MAINTAINED. Many of the greens were missing any type of grass and the fairways were all half dead, and I’m not talking about dormant winter grass. For this time of year, having half of your course cut to dirt, or no grass, isn’t okay for the price they are charging. DO NOT PLAY THIS COURSE IN ITS CURRENT CONDITION.
Great Course
Scotty Miller courses are some of my favourites and this one is definitely worth playing. Lots of elevation changes and some great views. Great condition as well.
Fun course.
Vistas were beautiful. Course was well maintained. Play pace was slow and ranger seemed indifferent to the situation.
The Eagle has landed - the Eagle Mountan Experience.
If you play golf and like beautiful challenging courses then this is a must play course. It is very beautiful track that will have you playing every club in your bag!! As a visitor to Phoenix every year - we are very happy and impressed with the condition of the course. Please note - there is lots of walking up and down to the large challenging greens. I have played many courses in the greater Phoenix area and would rank this course in my top ten
Beautiful vistas
First time at this course for my wife. She really enjoyed the vistas. Pace of play was terrific. We played through one foursome and finished in about 3 and 1/2 hrs.
Always a treat!
Play here as often as is affordable. Course is in top shape albeit a few spots here and there. Played as a twosome early Friday morning in 3 stress free hours. No one in front of us the entire round. Nice!
Shot 78!
I'll be back!
Great views
Tough course and tougher greens. Course was in great shape! Played an early morning round on a weekend and the price was fair. This course is a must play from the right tees for your index. Greens are tough and prepare yourself for a lot of 2-3 put greens.
A lot of ground under repair
Have not played this course for several years. Was amazed by the condition. A lot of areas under repair..still a nice course but has really declined in quality compared to Sunridge and Firerock
One of my favorites when visiting the Phoenix area...
Lots of rolling terrain and undulating greens...weather damaged only a very few parts of this course but didn't really affect play....only downer was that the cart path on 90% of the course around the greens is elevated and on these hot days I got tired out quick just walking on and off the greens
course in progress
I have played over 10 courses in the Scottsdale area in the last 6 weeks and the greens at Eagle Mountain were the best I've seen so far. A few of the fairways are being heavily maintenced but the staff lets you know that and is not a big deal. I played for an absolute steal of 31 dollars and just over 2 and a half hours
Bring your climbing gear
Great greens but ground under repair on many holes that slope from the sides down into poor drainage in the fairways. Steep climbs from almost every green back to the cart so not for the faint of heart but almost fainted and definitely overpriced
Great First Experience
This was my first time playing Eagle Mountain, and since I was playing it in the middle of the summer heat, I wasn't sure what to expect. Despite some work being in progress on a few of the fairways, the course was in really good shape for this time of year. There are many holes with great views, and the fairways can be pretty forgiving. I played at around 7:00 a.m., and was easily finished in 4 hours. The practice range and greens were all great, and the employees made it very easy to find. For the rate I paid ($39), I thought this was an extremely good value. The service was top notch, and the views are tough to beat. I will definitely be returning to Eagle Mountain in the future. I would love to play it during the peak season, as I'm sure it's in magnificent shape.
Great Golf Exxperience
I always try and play at Eagle Mountain when in Scottsdale. The course is undergoing some maintenance work, but this did not detract from a very enjoyable round. The staff were excellent, especially the Starter (John from Long Island, NY). He made sure that I was comfortable with the maintenance being carried out on the course and acted as course marshal to ensure that my round was as enjoyable experience. I look forward to my next round.
