Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

Course is overplayed
8 minute tee times for $175 and just shy of a 5 hour round. Many of the tee boxes were overused especially the par 3’s. Hard to find an eccentric place to place your tee. We waited on every shot. The fairways and greens were in really good condition though. The blue course and gold course kind of intermingle so there were a lot “FOUR’s” being yelled. Definitely not worth the money.
Lovely old school course
With the exception of a single saguaro cactus near the first tee, one would never guess this course was in the midst of a desert. A very fun, old school course with mature trees, water, deep bunkering, and mounded greens, this track is a worthy test of skill and mettle!
Design to be the west coast alternative to Firestone CC, this course measures 7300 yards from the tips and the green complexes will challenge anyone’s game.
With a couple of exceptions, the staff is incredible and very helpful, the practice facilities are top notch, and the maintenance is superb!
Heartily recommended!!!
Elevation Changes
Enjoyed the course. Played Blue White tee combo. I am a 12 and this was a challenge. Many forced Carrie’s and a few tighter holes. Good value for the $$! Course may go private I am tolls in a year or so.
Red is better than gold
Huge froze delay! Very backed on every hole caused by the frost! Good golfers all backed up! Left after the 15th hole!
A must play in west PHX for any golf enthusiast!
An awesome Parkland style course. I played the Gold Course, Jones Sr design, crowned greens etc... was in great shape and enjoyed it very much. Would definitely play it again.
Great Course But Noisy Jets From Nearby Airforce Base
Everything was great including course condition, staff, carts, range,, customers. and they let you take the cart to your car at convenient parking lot for unloading after the round. BUT, Airforce jets nearby made a racket almost continuously. Also, the location in the West valley is not convenient to Scottsdale.
Good Course - Unfriendly Marshal
Played the Gold course... not too difficult, pretty fun. Some of the hole routing is odd/confusing, especially at the end. Lowlight was the marshal ("Sheriff Joe" he called himself) chastising me for having the golf cart NEXT to the path instead of ON the path on a Par 3. I had pulled aside so my playing partners could go around me as there was no other way around. I wasn't on a playing surface or anywhere close to a green or tee box. Seriously, you have nothing better to do than police stupid stuff like that? In my opinion, marshals should police PACE OF PLAY (which was an issue that day, so Sheriff Joe obviously wasn't policing that) and EGREGIOUS cart violations. No other course I play does this ticky-tacky marshal stuff. I won't be playing here again -- there are plenty of other places who will take my money.
Perfect start to Christmas Golf
Played WIGWAM GOLD today and it was fantastic! I rarely leave reviews but felt the need to share how great our experience was. The course was in great shape, staff super friendly, good value at $50 with a 1pm start.
We finished in just under four hours, only waited for a couple minutes on the par 3’s. It was a great layout and long - but forgiving. Was in the bunkers quite a bit and they are in great shape also.
We just arrived from Calgary and -40° so anything would have been good however this was great. Played well also which always helps.
As good as I remember.
We have not played here in over 5 years, and when I heard that Tom Lehman had done a redesign, I was worried that the course would have lost some of the great Robert Trent Jones Sr's, signature characteristics. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was still very interesting and a great test of golf. The course was in great condition, and we finished in just under 4 1/2 hrs, despite following a high school tournament. We'll be back.
