Wigwam Resort - Gold Course
About
The Gold Course is one of three 18-hole courses offered at the Wigwam Resort, which was named one of Golf Magazine's "Silver Medal Resorts." Golf Digest cited the Gold Course as one of the best public courses in the state. Mature trees are present on all of the courses, as well as winding creeks that create water hazards, which come into play on several holes. There are also strategically placed sand bunkers present on the course. The rolling landscape of the course causes elevation changes that can affect shots. The Wigwam Resort facility also has a putting green and chipping area.

In transition
The course could use better identification for yardages. They are marked on sprinkler heads but those are very few and difficult to locate. The greens were very bumpy and inconsistent as the summer Bermuda is coming in so previous bare spots were filling but left an uneven surface. Lastly, the bunkers are problematic. The sand is very heavy and mostly compacted making it difficult to play out of greenside... they're nice if you're extracting yourself from the fairway.
What a challenge
The Gold course at Wigwam ate my lunch. that course is loooong. The shortest par 3 is 176. I used my driver on all but one hole. If you can't hit 200+ from the yellow tees find a less challenging course. The course is in very good shape. The concession gals are great. Starter was excellent and rangers all over the course to help pace of play.
Gave up on the greens
Course was good, fairways in okay shape for the middle of the summer, but the greens were not up to the Wigwam standards (if there any?) Completely obliterated with aeration holes... have you ever heard of sanding them? Putts couldn't hold a straight line, very disappointing.
Condition of fairways and greens - average
Course shows signs of minimal maintence - maybe due to play being down? Proximity to other holes from other course can be confusing. Course knowledge after 2 or 3 rounds will improve scoring.
nice layout
Like the course a lot but was very slow for that early in the morning. Also, the greens were not great, recently aerated, and one was real bad(not mowed).
Great but the 16th.
Played the patriot/blue course. The fairways were in great condition. The greens were soft and forgiving. The 16th green was in really bad shape. It may have a fungus, but the rest were great. The course is very forgiving yet narrow in areas. The unlimited range balls are great. The lack of a putting green with holes was different. The hill filled green putting area did not play like the course greens. Also it is a course that rewards being in the fairway with open shots into the green. Several holes allow for risk taking to score and multiple playing options.
Poor Condition
I was disappointed with the condition of the course. Greens were very slow and bumpy (recently aerated). Fairways were somewhat spotty - hard to every get a good lie in the fairway. Hard to tell what the yardages are from the various tees as they are quite large. There's no officially marked spot on each tee as to the measure yardage to the center of the green
Nice layout
The course is laid out nicely however the fairways and greens were not in very good condition. The greens were very spotty with dead patches of grass and did not roll very well. the course is going to the transition with the winter grass is dying and summer grass is coming in. The course will be much more enjoyable to play in a couple of weeks.
this course was very friendly
the course was very open very forgiving you fairways hope places were a little tough greens were a little slow but overall good is it was definitely worth the money
well setup holes very long par 3s 4s and 5s
great course would tell anyone to play and they will enjoy alot, lots of trees and bunkers.one par5 from back tees was 660 yards!
it was on the gold course.nobody was there.it was perfect everywhere.
Slow and cramped
I played the Gold course which was a beautiful course. However if you book through golf now the course never got our reservation, so when we showed up to check in with the marshal he had no clue we were coming. Turns out that they had done the same thing for about 4 other groups. So what should have been a 3 1/2 - 4 hr round turned in to a 6 hr round. There was at least 2 groups waiting at every tee box.. It was the most cramped round Ive ever played.
Played the Gold Course
1st time at Wigwam. Great course - tough greens - lots of big sand traps at all the right places. Even from the gold tees, long and challenging for par. Didn't even consider trying the blue or black (the longest) I didn't look at the other scorecards prior to booking, as the resident pro shop said, if you were to play one of the three, Gold would be the one. The real problem was the pace of play. The foursome in front of us included to real beginners who needed some time with the marshall to speed up play. It really took the tempo and enjoyment out of the game. We don't see any marshall on the course. The Grill afterwards was really terrible for service. We waited one hour for the food to come. The meat entree was cold and the lighting poor. I would eat there again unless some guarantees of change were developed.
Great time at Wigwam
Great course. Great value from Golfnow Hot Deals. Friendly staff.
signiture hole
played gold course which was most money but found that signiture hole on ads were on another one of the 3 courses. course was other wise good and pace was good. advice would be to label on ads which course signiture hole is on. thanks. frank walker
Wigwam - Patriot
It was my second time playing the Patriot Course at Wigwam. The course was in good condition. For $39/person it's a great value especially since it includes range, practice area and a great clubhouse.
Very nice Traditional course- Wigwam Gold
Entire course was green and in very good condition although a couple of bunkers were light on sand. A pleasure to play a traditional tree lined course after numerous rounds on desert (read gravel) courses. A bit tricky for the first time as there is no course layout on the card, on the website, or on the tee markers. There are some hidden water hazards that when playing for the first time, one is totally unaware or not sure how close they are to the green. There was GPS on the cart but it was not working. Nice range but it uses the Pinnacle bricks!
Pro shop staff and cart guys were all very nice as well as the starter. I will play this course again as I did before from the Champions tees, 6830 yards.
Challenging
Much better conditions in the rough than most courses I have played in the Phoenix area. I booked an afternoon time for $45, if I had paid the normal daytime price of 90 I would not rate it as high. Multiple foursomes in front of me that played slow was the only downside.
Thats why its GOLD
Challenging bunkers and water that make it a must to be at the top of your game. A very fun and challenging course.
An Outstanding Course to Play
We played the Gold course on a friend's recommendation. The course was in excellent playing condition. Fairways are generally flat with strategic placement of mature trees, bunkers and water hazards. Greens had some challenging slope and were a little fast that day. Staff was very friendly and the carts were ready on time, even though there was a shotgun-start tournament just before our tee time. Would definitely play again.
