Golden Hills Golf Club (formerly known as Arizona Golf Resort) is home to a golf school and a challenging 18-hole course. The golf course is known for its difficult and scenic par-3 holes. It is has a traditional layout that features large, subtly sloped greens that are guarded by bunkers. Stately cottonwood and eucalyptus trees line the generous fairways. Lakes form water hazards that come into play on five holes and there is also native rough throughout the course. With four sets of tee boxes, the course offers a suitable challenge for players of all skill levels. In addition to the course and the school, the Golden Hills Golf Club has a putting green and chipping area as well.

League Tune-up

Played here because many other courses were doing over seed and not open. AGR had just re-seeded, and the course was pretty soggy. Cart path only which made play a little slower than normal. Greens were in great shape on most holes. Staff friendly and helpful. This is the best value right now; my group has played this course often during this time period in the past.

Needs some time

Overseeding time in Arizona to change to winter grass. Some areas not grown in yet and greens were very slow as not cut really close yet. Hopefully will improve in a few weeks.

course needs work

This course is not in good shape. I know that we are in shoulder/seeding season but it is not fun to play with bald dirt patches throughout the course - on most holes.

I understand that it is "cart path" only season but there is no support for disabilities (a flag allowing judicious use) so that some elderly folk can still play when they have a bad hip/knee and cannot walk great distances.

I understand that this course was really nice in the past and hope that it can be improved. It was not value for money on this occasion.

AGR (Golden Hills)

I wish I could write a really good review but there were a few things that weren’t ideal. Our tee time was scheduled for 9:04 and we didn’t tee off until about 9:30 which prolonged our game. The reason we didn’t tee off at the proper time was because we were waiting on a group (which had some of the staff that works there in it) that played the back nine first to play through. Not only that but this was also one of the longest games of golf I’ve played. The pace of play was very slow. On a positive note, the course was in decent shape and the staff was nice.

Disappointed

At the end of 18 holes we discovered our vehicle was either towed or stolen. The friendly warm staff at the beginning of the course were lovely in every way. However after discovering our missing SUV, the staff then were very dismissive and not helpful other than to say they have a parking cone that signifies vendor only parking.

This was shocking as we were confused and left out in the dark to find out the information on who towed it and why. A young parking lot attendant then told us a cone was placed by herself but unable to defend such poor signage that really didn’t indicate a tow zone.

Hence a fun day of golf turned into a stressful experience leading us to all avoid this golf course for future visits.

Not a good way to treat your Golf Patrons AGR!

Slow greens

Mow the greens. Fairways need lots of work. Understand why its cart path only.

Always struggled to be ok

There is nothing golden and there are no hills on this course. It is one of the simpler layouts in East Mesa and has never been in ‘good’ condition for the last 15 years. New ownership/management has their work cut out for them. Best thing about the course is OTG bar off 7th green. Best hole layout is 14 based on pin location. Don’t expect much, but I still play here 2-3 times/year when other courses are full.

SCUBA anyone?

Staff was super friendly. We were warned that the course was cart path only, over-seed. We were not warned that the course was extremely wet, many of the fairways had 1 or 2 inches of standing water. In places where it was not wet there wasn’t much grass. The greens were really slow. If you are going to play I recommend bringing your scuba gear or snorkel along for the swim.
