The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

1st Timers

Nice course, would play the blue_white combo but it’s the approach shot that counts on this course.

Fast round and course in good shape

We played from the whites and would play longer next time. But the greens and hazzards made up for the distance on the back side.

Top notch

I found Red Mountain Range to be top notch in every way. I enjoy challenging courses that you have to think your way around, and Pete Dye just has such a talent for designing courses that complement the natural grounds and surroundings. The course is exquisitely manicured from tee to green, and golfers are rewarded for placing their shots in proper places on the generous and well irrigated fairways. Tee boxes are flat and very well kept, and the flag placements are fair on the raised, smooth, undulating greens that have subtle breaks. Bunker sand is consistent, though the banks are relatively high and the traps would be very challenging for golfers that struggle with their bunker play. I play to an 8 handicap, and the starter recommended I hit from the blue tees at just over 6000 yards with a slope of 134. 4 sets of tees give golfers of all levels a fair chance of shooting their handicap, though I would say this course might not be the best choice for those that prefer flatter courses with greens one can run the ball up on. I always play better on more challenging courses and was very pleased with my honest 79 that included 2 (very silly) double bogeys and 3 missed putts for birdie from within 7 feet...grrr. I highly recommend Red Mountain Range for anyone that appreciates a fair yet challenging round of golf.

Great par 3s

I have been playing in a simulator for the past three months (Northern Michigan) so my expectations may be low. The tee boxes were in good shape, fairways well maintained and greens had a lot of undulation. Areas around the traps were not in good shape and the bunkers were more gravel than sand.

It is not a high end course but for the $$$ I would play again.

True Pete Dye layout

I’ve seen this course from the road while driving by and always wanted to give it a go. Pro shop and starter were very amiable guys, so it was a good start to the day. Every aspect of the course is a cut above the everyday AZ course and well worth the extra $, especially if you can snag a GN discount. Interesting layout that reminded me of TPC Scottsdale in many ways. Overall, fairway and green conditions are very good.

The difficulty of this track is demanding approaches to crazy green complexes. In addition to the Dye signature railroad ties and bunkers there are huge humps and valleys guarding the greens, so your approach’s better be spot on. Off the tee landing areas can be deceiving to the eye and there’s a few times that lay-ups are required, but there’s a fair amount of leeway, at least from the blue/white hybrids.

Typical Pete Dye

Typical Pete Dye. Very difficult Ari d the greens and one the greens. The greens are fairly small and the flat areas non-existent. Any putt fore than 10 feet will have at least a couple of different breaks.

Very fun to play with a couple of funky holes ont he back nine. Know your run-out distances and you need to be accurate with your drives and approach shots.

Overpriced

Decent layout, horrible conditions. They don’t even try to make the course look nice anymore. I used to not care about the throwaway holes they don’t keep up, it’s getting ridiculous, $199? Apache Creek is in better shape

Challenging

This course has everything. If you are the type of golfer that needs a challenge, book a tee time. With rolling hills, dog-legs, hidden water hazards, and a few tricky greens, it’ll keep you on your toes.
