The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

Great course

Course was in good shape greens roll true although not terribly fast. Use the yardage book you’ll need it if you haven’t played here before. Starter and Marshall did a great job. Pace was good @ 2:05 on the front and 2:20 on the back. I will be back when I’m back in town.

Challenging course

Played on 4/23, paired with another couple, very nice! Most tee boxes okay, fairways okay, greens slow(need mowed shorter), and some bunkers have sand. Lots of surrounding desert so you may need to just not go looking for your ball because it’s rattlesnake time of year! Carts are gas powered, have coolers, and they put 2 waters in for you and there’s plenty of water coolers on the course. Pace of play was normal. There are practice areas ie range, chip, putt. Staff was nice, came out to parking lot and picked up golf bag! Great views and Pete Dye design so elevated everything, undulating fairways, rolling greens! Beverage cart around.

You Need a New Starter

Pulled up to the course with my wife and brother for my 30th birthday. We parked in the parking lot a good ways away from the carts and started to unload our bags. One of the staff, a young kid, came all the way over to our cars and grabbed all three bags for us without us asking. And they were HEAVY. He took them over to the carts and loaded them up for us then asked us if we needed our clubs cleaned before the round; I’ve NEVER had someone offer to do that let alone walk out to our cars to help us. Incredible service. The guy in the pro shop who checked us in was very friendly, and he made us all laugh. We went to the bar for a quick drink and the waitress was amazing, very friendly, made our drinks quickly and even made my wife a Bloody Mary to go. Then we got to the first tee. Our tee time was 9:21. We pulled up at 9:22 and the starter was complaining that we were late, and that now everyone else would be late because of us. It was one minute…proceeded to make us even later by complaining. He really put a damper on our round and because of him I doubt we’ll be back. He could really learn some customer service skills from his co-workers.

Good layout

RMR is a good layout and has some really fun holes. Conditions are what we have come to expect - decent fairways and greens - pretty rough in all other areas. Yesterday the greens hadn't been mowed - maybe for days - and the speeds were extremely slow - not something you would ever want to get used to. That made it almost a dud round when you can't take a normal stroke and get the ball to the hole.

Dry

Terribly dry, dead/dormant grass everywhere, some places no grass.

Also play up a tee, it’s tight & no such thing as a flat lie.

Awesome

Fun, challenging course layout as you’d expect from Pete Dye. Played mid-afternoon at the discounted rate and after passing one slow group, breezed through in under four hours. Course was in good shape. Will play again.

If you love to golf, you got to go there!

Besides the great design, with rolling fairways and spectacular greens, you get wonderful views on beautiful houses, Red Mountain and down town Phoenix. The course is in good shape (besides some bunkers) and the staff is super friendly. We startet at 1.30pm and had no one around us.

Pete Dye did a great job with this course. It just might be a little tricky for Golfers that are not able to attack the greens with high ball flights, as almost every green is extremely elevated.
