The golf course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club is a beautifully designed layout set against a desert landscape with rock formations, mesquite trees, and cacti. Pete and Perry Dye designed the course, combining both beauty and challenge. This championship course was built on rolling terrain and has large, sharply contoured greens and extensive mounding that is reinforced with railroad ties. There are not only deep sand bunkers but also grass bunkers protecting the greens. There are also four ponds on the course at Red Mountain Ranch & Country Club, but only three create water hazards that come into play on four holes. A notable hole on the course in which water comes into play is the sixth, a hole that has a peninsula green with water surrounding it along three sides.

True Pete Dye layout

I’ve seen this course from the road while driving by and always wanted to give it a go. Pro shop and starter were very amiable guys, so it was a good start to the day. Every aspect of the course is a cut above the everyday AZ course and well worth the extra $, especially if you can snag a GN discount. Interesting layout that reminded me of TPC Scottsdale in many ways. Overall, fairway and green conditions are very good.

The difficulty of this track is demanding approaches to crazy green complexes. In addition to the Dye signature railroad ties and bunkers there are huge humps and valleys guarding the greens, so your approach’s better be spot on. Off the tee landing areas can be deceiving to the eye and there’s a few times that lay-ups are required, but there’s a fair amount of leeway, at least from the blue/white hybrids.

Typical Pete Dye

Typical Pete Dye. Very difficult Ari d the greens and one the greens. The greens are fairly small and the flat areas non-existent. Any putt fore than 10 feet will have at least a couple of different breaks.

Very fun to play with a couple of funky holes ont he back nine. Know your run-out distances and you need to be accurate with your drives and approach shots.

Great course minus bunker conditions

Great Pete Dye course that needs a bunker refresh. many bunkers are same gravel and sand as the desert. greens in great shape as well as fairways. great range and staff.

Overpriced

Decent layout, horrible conditions. They don’t even try to make the course look nice anymore. I used to not care about the throwaway holes they don’t keep up, it’s getting ridiculous, $199? Apache Creek is in better shape

Challenging

This course has everything. If you are the type of golfer that needs a challenge, book a tee time. With rolling hills, dog-legs, hidden water hazards, and a few tricky greens, it’ll keep you on your toes.

Tough Greens

Course was in good shape. A few brown spots on a couple of greens and some tees showing wear. A couple of par 3’s had pins in impossible places from the tees. Played as a twosome, out early and finished in under 4 hrs. Need to return to play it smarter. Lol!

RR tie steps up to back tees on 18 need to be fixed before someone gets injured. They’re not level and some are held back from slipping by large spikes that are sticking up. A definite tripping hazard.

Course has excellent layout with challenging greens with multiple undulations

However, the conditions with bald spots on fairways and some greens as well as worn wooden steps suggest it needs a bit of sprucing up/updating

Beautiful scenery but course was in bad conditions. Tee boxes were torn up and fairways hard and dry.Course was crazy layout (to many little hills for no reason)..Pin placement in bad location for your everyday golfer.

Disappointment

Really looked forward to playing here. I was very disappointed. Scruffy tee boxes, patchy greens, lot of dead, brown grass. If every hole looked like 18 I'd give it five stars. They don't! I played early and they got me out in front of a threesome. I played it in 3 hours. That was my highlight. Tee boxes aren't marked, got confused going from 16 to 17. No signs anywhere on the course. Cart paths are not convenient to the greens. Pete Dye would be just as disappointed. Too bad

Worst course in Arizona

This is the worst course I've ever played and easily ten worst in AZ! The condition was disgusting the greens had weeds and disease were patchy and the ball bounced instead of rolling. I feel like is was robbery and bordered on immoral to charge $185 for a course that's not as nice as Dobson ranch and can't even hold a candle to Lone Tree. They should be embarrassed of their facility and after 3 holes my buddy and I understood why the course wa empty on a beautiful day, because no one would play that course twice.
