Superstition Springs Golf Club

About
The East Valley's Superstition Springs Golf Club offers one of Arizona's most testing layouts, measuring over 7,000 yards, with a slope rating of 130. Golf course architect Greg H. Nash designed the course and worked with the landscape already in place to provide the abundant mounding, wide bunkers and good-looking but tough-playing water features.
By the time he had finished with the Superstition Springs Golf Club, Nash had created a golf course that Golfweek called one of America's Best Golf Courses.
After - or before - a round of golf at the Superstition Springs Golf Club, hit up the restaurant for breakfast, lunch or drinks either inside or on the patio, which overlooks the golf course's signature hole, the ninth.

Disappointed
88 bucks for greens that were hammered. Hole 8 had trench that ran all the way thru the green making a real putt impossible.
I still love the lay out but was over priced for summer
Easily the worst conditions in the state of AZ
Course layout is fine, conditions are the worst I have ever seen on a course. The greens aren’t punched or in the middle of repair, they are 25% ok, 25% fringe, 25% desert, and 100% the worst greens I have ever seen on a course in 25 years. One green has two inch thick patches running through it.
Tee boxes are trash.
They also send a group out every 6 minutes… enjoy your day long round.
I can’t believe they are charging more than $20. I just looked and tomorrow they are charging $82, that’s $30 more than Dinosaur Mountain, Longbow, Johnson Ranch.
Save yourself and choose one of the other 50 courses within 8 miles.

Hello - we thank you for taking the itme to leave some feedback. going to make some corrections to your statements:
Tee times are not 6min
7/26 green fee which includes cart after 9am= $35 ($49 before)
Tee Leveling Project starts Mon Aug 4th.
Greens were punched July 8th and still healing.
clearly not the worst conditions ever (we do agree that we need to improve...and are working hard to do so)
Shadow of what it used to be
Back in the course used to be one of the top courses on the east side. Lack of care over the years have left this course in the same condition kokopeli. However, kokopeli is working on improving and superstition is just draining their water features

Hello - thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. We have a tee leveling project starting on Aug 4. All 18 holes will be open but some holes the tees will be moved up. Arcis Golf did not let the ponds go dry and then the sun cooked the liner...that was the previous owners. We agree and are working on improving the course conditions. We hope to see you in the future.
Horrible shape
I've started questioning whether the 'powers that be' that run this course!!! (ex: Arcis, Director of golf and Superintendent) have any love for the game of golf. It's crazy to me that there is a sign in the pro shop suggesting that the price of the round is lower to compensate for the greens being aerated 2 weeks ago whe. it's cclear that most of the greens have huge areas that have bo doggone grass on them. Apparently the pressure of keeping the course in playable condition is too much to handle.
Couple this with the guys on mowers that don't shut down or stop moving when golfers are trying to hit their shots. I was near the pond on #8 and the guy mowing in the rough was mowing close to me (very close!). I witnessed numerous maintenance guys sitting in the shade on their equipment flipping through their phones and not really doing anything. Lot's of weeds and overgrowth on the course could be cleared out and I'm sure that there are rakes in the maintenance building that could be deployed to clean up the course. Pathetic conditions.

thank you for the feedback. true that we need to improve the course conditions. We have a tee leveling project starting Aug 4. 50k on course renovations...sounds to me like we do care. Can't speak to the "time" you saw the crew taking a break, they start at 4am...they are allowed to take a break.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. We are working on being Above Average...hope you will play again in the future.
Poor Conditions
The staff were very friendly. The course was a swamp! We were full of muck. No club cleaners and very few ball cleaners. The greens had recently been air rated, which is typical for this time of year, but there were complete patches of dirt and trenches on every green. VERY DISAPPOINTED with the condition of this once beautiful course.

Thank you for your review and for sharing your experience! We're glad you found our staff friendly—our team is a highlight! As you mentioned, the greens were recently aerated, which is typical for this season, and we’re offering discounted rates to reflect the current conditions. We’re excited to share that our owners, Arcis Golf, are investing in a tee leveling project to enhance the course. We’d love to welcome you back once the greens have recovered and the improvements are complete. Thanks for your feedback, and we look forward to seeing you soon!
Summer play
Everyone who works there was amazing. The breakfast was fantastic too. The course was in much much worse condition than I would have expected. The greens were punched so we expected them to be bad, that was completely fine, no complaints there. I’d return only because the staff was great. I might try the course again when conditions are better but doubtful. Right now it’s not that much cheaper than other courses that are so much better, its a terrible deal right now.

Thank you for the feedback. We agree that the staff is amazing! I will give them a shout out. We have a tee leveling and regrassing project starting on Aug 4th. 18 holes will be open but the tees may be up and/or back from their normal locations. We look forward to seeing you in the future.

Thank you! We are happy your had an Excellent visit to SSGC!
Best !!!
From the manager,, Harvey and starter, Bill and Marshall, Dave…every team member was great. They went above and beyond! Thanks for a great Saturday on the links!

We’re thrilled to hear you had such a fantastic experience! Our team always strives to provide exceptional service, and it's wonderful to know they made your Saturday memorable. Thank you for your kind words! We look forward to welcoming you back to the course soon.

Hello - thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. we would love to hear details...but understanding that we just punched our greens...we argree we are not in the best condition. We do have discounted rates while the greens are healing. We hope you will give us another go in the future.
Meh
Let me start by saying, I realize it’s the summer and playing conditions are not always gonna be the best considering the heat. However, when I booked the teetime. I was not told that the back nine would be closed and in order to get 18 holes in, I had to play the front line twice. That was disappointing to say the least. There was a bunch of hackers on the course which I guess is expected for discounted prices during the summer. The best part was the par 5 8th hole that has a lake on your right hand side. It could come into play on your approach shot. I hit my iron that drifted right and could have possibly went in the water and as I approached, there were two guys fishing the lake and gave me attitude because I almost hit them. I threw attitude right back and said-how am I supposed to know you’d be here? Good times

Hello - thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Over communcation about our aerified greens is our goal. sorry we didn't get the message to you. We don't allow fishing on the course...but that doesn't keep people from sneaking on. we hope to see you in the future.
Great course
Course was in pretty good shape for current heat conditions. I'd play again.

Hello - Thank you and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
Rough greens
Greens were in terrible condition. I assume that they're about to be reconditioned? There was no true roll.

Thank you for your feedback about the greens. You’re correct that our greens are scheduled for aeration on Monday, July 7th, as part of our regular maintenance to improve their health and playability. This process should help restore a true roll and better overall conditions. We hope you’ll give us another chance to provide a great golfing experience after the aeration is complete!
Conditions
Course is in horrible shape compared to years before.

Horrible course.
Once the snow birds left this course is terrible. Can’t believe they want $50 bucks. The superintendent and greenskeeper should be fired! Absolutely a disgrace. At the most I’d pay $25 bucks.

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your disappointment with the course conditions. We’ve recently brought on a new superintendent who, along with our dedicated greenskeeping team, is working tirelessly to elevate the course to the high standards our players expect. Improvements are already underway, with a focus on enhancing the fairways, greens, and overall experience. We truly value your input and are committed to making every round enjoyable. We hope you’ll notice the positive changes on your next visit and appreciate your patience as we continue to enhance the course.

Hello - we don't understand what you mean by "Got Track". perhaps you wanted to say Goat track. We are working on improving the course conditions. How was my staff? Did you have any F&B? We hope you will give us another go in the future.

thank you - Glad you had a good time! See you on the course soon. SSGC
Terrible
Paying $80 for a round in AZ in the middle of summer usually means it’s a decent course. This place was in terrible shape. Fairways completely dead. Greens were incredibly slow and there was no point in aiming putts with how uneven the putting surfaces were.

Hello ar8ton95,
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're genuinely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations. Summer conditions in Arizona can be extremely challenging for turf maintenance, especially during transitions or when extreme heat hits earlier than anticipated. That said, your comments about the fairways and greens are concerning, and we take them seriously.
Our team is currently working hard to address course conditions, and we appreciate your patience as we make improvements. We strive to provide value at every price point and regret that we fell short during your visit. If you’d be open to it, we’d love the opportunity to speak with you directly and hopefully invite you back for a better experience.
Thank you again for the honest review—feedback like yours helps us do better.
Warm regards,
Harvey Volentine, PGA

Fun course
Greens were rough but expected this time of year. No map on card or placards so was blind. First time was still enjoyable

Hello, thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Yes we are waiting for the bermuda to really pop...once it does things will be much better. Hope to see you again in the future.

Hello Jay4jay,
Correct - I adjusted the price but your fees slipped through. I think we have already spoken but if not give harvey a shout at the club and we will get it corrected.
We’re thrilled to share that starting Monday, August 4th, we’ll begin a Tee Box Leveling & Resodding Project to enhance your playing experience across the course!
While we’re making these improvements, all 18 holes will remain open, but you may notice tee markers moved forward or back from their usual spots.
We appreciate your support and patience as we continue to invest in the course — these upgrades will help keep it in top shape for seasons to come!
See you on the tee!
