Ahwatukee Country Club
About
The sun shines 350 days a year in Phoenix and you can enjoy this factor at Ahwatukee Country Club. "Ahwatukee" is Crow Indian for "house of dreams", but this could easily be the "golf course of dreams".
The semi-private Ahwatukee Country Club offers an 18-hole golf course designed by John Bulla in 1974 that is open year-round and includes a driving range, as well as a cart included in the greens fee. The golf course is par-72 and measures 6,713 yards from the championship tees.
The Ahwatukee Country Club golf course features a fairly wide-open layout, but has out-of-bounds areas on either side of the fairways - including some with houses, so watch out for those windows - as well as water hazards on some holes. The putting greens play fast.
After a tight front nine on the Ahwatukee Country Club golf course, things open up on a razor-sharp par-4 dogleg 10th hole, with no chance to cut corners: there's a towering forest to the left.

Course upgrades really making a difference
I golf this place last year and it was a good course for the price. But now under new management and course upgrades and detail are really making the difference. Enjoyed golfing here
Amazing what water does to grass.
This is a wonderful course when maintained properly - with the new ownership the course in on it’s way back. Moving the golf shop and club drop was genius - you don’t have to climb the stairs and it’s close to the snack bar. They would be wise to keep green fees down during this winter season to built back their following.
Best Improved
Ahwatukee Golf Course is much imporved since the last time (June, 2023) I played there. The cart path has been repaired/replaced. The overseeding was very successful. The tee boxes have been improved. The greens were a little slow, but that is to be expected at this time of year. The club house is waiting for a full time cook (Oct. 28), so the food selection was quite small (sandwiches, hot dogs, chicken tenders, fries, onion rings, etc.). The quality and quantity was good. I'll be back to play it again later this year or early next year.
All good except the greens
Love the layout. Fairways were in good shape, many bald spots all over, not sure if this is normal - kinda seemed like it. Greens were long and very slow however the worst part was they were very inconsistent which I dislike more than anything else. You can have shaggy greens just make sure they are consistent. These are not. They had just reopened after overseed so hopefully they get the greens dialed in. If they do it will be a great course to play.
Nice layout-friendly staff
Course is close by and has a driving range (good feature) and I wanted to get a round in —the staff is friendly —the course layout is good but the overall course conditions are “rough” at best
Looks like they put seed down but didn’t aerate ??
Seed is just sitting on hard pan ground ?
Overall course conditions are in need of overhaul
Do not play here
This place is possibly the worst place to play in all of Arizona the fact that they are charging 50$ a round to play here is breathtaking I feel like the most is pay is 15$ the greens are trash might as well just hope you hit a putt the fairways dear god I’ve never hit a strait drive 280 then have to hit off solid dirt and let me tell you there is zero grass on this course might as well go to the desert and hit golf balls in the sand
Course Experience
The staff was welcoming and friendly and helped us with everything we needed. The courses were well-kept, and there was no confusion between 18 holes.
I did not see a map for the course, but we had a wonderful time.
Inexpensive, Fast, But Conditions Need Improvement
A fast loop around midday in the AZ sun. A nice layout, greens were fair, but other aspects of course condition need improvement. Recent improvements to clubhouse. Now needs attention to fairways and cart paths. Overall, a decent value for the money.
Some improvements.
The front 9 greens are in much better shape than earlier in the year. So for $25 on a Saturday it's good value. The fairways are still nasty but hopefully there's plans to improve them too.
No grass in fairways, no cart service! Looks like new management is trying to improve course so maybe given time can become good course later in time.
Tee boxs uneven
Fairways more bare ground than grass!
Bunkers in great condition.
Greens good condition and improved but notably slow!
No cart service!!!!!!
Conditions are improving maybe with time course could be much more playable signs of improvement.
Good rate for mid day play
Got and sunny but free to play fast and quickly was what I wanted the day I came out! Wish there was a bano on the back side as I had to interrupt play on the 16th hole to go back to restaurant for bathroom and then back out there but it worked out!
Horrible
The course was in horrible shape. The greens, The Fairways, The Sand Traps.I can’t believe I payed over $50 for this dog track. I will NEVER play there again.. in fact you should fire the Superintendent.
Average course design
The golf course was in horrible shape. The fairways were spotty with dirt and grass. It looked like the course was overgrown and not cut in weeks with weeds overgrown everywhere. The rough around the greens were also overgrown. The sand in the bunkers were like concrete. I can’t believe I was charged $50 to play this horrible dog track. The greens keeper and course manager should be fired.
Conditions aren’t the best for a country club
Pace of play was good (granted it was 105 when we started, so wouldn’t expect it to be crowded). Course is designed nicely, with some good challenges on distance and obstacles. Overall conditions were pretty bad. Fairways were non existent for most holes and the greens were very slow. Doubtful that we will play at this location again based on the course conditions and the price for the round. Would get more from the Phoenix City courses.
Great course for the price but id recommend playing at sun rise first thing or before 6:30a or plan on waiting every hole.
Good value but not much as far as food except for basic snacks or hotdogs. Staff is friendly good layout but we were late to tee off and was really backed up every hole. Staff explained they we’re running late due to a men’s group that according the marshal showed up unannounced and was allowed to go out earlier causing a back up at the tee box and everyone who scheduled a tee time ahead unlike the men’s group all had to wait 30-40 mins later then there scheduled tee time to get started. Because of this every hole was backed up with 2-3 groups waiting to tee off. This went on the entire front 9 and eventually got better at the 10th hole. Our usual 4 hr round turned out to be 6 hrs, 4 hrs on the front 9 alone. Most likely alot of groups quit after 9 not willing to do another’ 4 hr on the back. Thankfully for us its sped up the back to a normal 2hrs. Hopefully they won’t allow a men’s league to go out unannounced in front of everyone else that schedule a time prior to showing up and if they dont call ahead they should wait until theres an opening they can fit in without holding everyone else up . That is what usually happens if u don’t call ahead a make a tee time prior to showing up isn’t it??
Horrible pace of play
Don’t let “Country Club” fool you into thinking this is actually a quality course to play - right away on hole one, there were tree trunk chunks that look like they’d been there for some time. The fairway is brown (I understand that this is AZ in June) but the greens were also brown. It felt like the course - what we played of it - was all under disrepair. There were no rangers at all to encourage a pick up in pace of play - at hole 3, there were literally 4 groups backed up - that’s insane - it never broke loose. Hoping that whatever group that was holding up play would end at 9 holes - nope, not the case - by hole 11 when it hadn’t improved, we actually turned around and ended our round. There were others that followed as well - that’s ridiculous - we saw the beer cart one time in the 10 holes that we actually played - and was told at the beginning that the bar was closed. Never again!
