About
San Tan Highlands (formerly known as The Golf Club at Johnson Ranch) boasts a championship course with a front nine that winds through the Sonoran desert and a back nine that finishes at the base of the bordering San Tan Mountains. Naturally, the first half of the golf course is relatively flat and the latter half has a hilly terrain. In contrast to its categorization as a desert course, this course has grass from the tees to the greens but the cactus-filled landscape definitely implies desert. The greens are quite large and undulating and the fairways are fairly open with generous landing areas. Strategically placed sand bunkers and water hazards come into play throughout the San Tan Highlands.

Overpriced dust fest
Conditions are bad. Dry and dead spots in fairways. Bunkers are good, greens are ok on half the holes but bumpy and overplayed with no TLC as of late.
Paid 115 for tee time, round took 4:37 minutes. They are letting 9 hole guests tee off on the back 9 in the middle of our 18 hole rounds and it backed up for 15 minutes on 10 with 5 groups on the hole at once.
Charged 18 bucks for a double jack and coke. I can buy a bottle of jack for 20. And they charged for range balls.
Go to poston butte instead.
2-24-2025
Played on 2-24-2025. Half the tee boxes, fairways and greens were a bit hard. Carts were very clean. Outside staff Ken Henry was very helpful and professional. Would like to see if the management would start giving a veterans discount.
Pricey
For the price the course is starting to get in poor condition. Quite a few of the greens are getting burnt or desiesed. A lot of the fairway are burt or dried out. For the price you would think the course would be in better shape.
Disappointing
I played this course in 2023, and was pleased with the course and the price back then. The course was also in better shape in 2023. The front 9 was terrible this year, an obvious lack of maintenance. The back 9 was better, but very disappointed with the overall shape of the course.
Allways Gem
This course is a gem! You get 2 courses in one, a desert front 9 to get you warmed up. Then a very challenging mountain course for the back 9 that is either up hill or mountain I should say. Then you have the elevated tee boxes that are a blast to hit from heading down the mountain. We always enjoy playing here! The clubhouse is well appointed and the staff is great. Go ahead and play it!!!

Always enjoy playing here
Course was in good shape. Starter and Pro shop friendly and courteous. Driving Range was shortened for maintenance, no drivers. We stayed for a meal afterwards. Food was tasty. Good value for price.. Green Fees have climbed sharply over last 4 years. At peak of what we will.pay. Saying that, we did enjoy our round. We will come back to play again.

Well worth the drive. Friendly and great layout
Course was fantastic but post round lunch was disappointing. Took almost an hour to get our food.
Great Day at San Tan
Everything was very good with the exception of the communication with the Starter of when it was our tee time.
